Genèse 4
1 Or Adam connut sa femme Ève, qui conçut et enfanta Caïn, disant: J’ai acquis un homme par la grâce de Dieu.
And Adam lay wyth Heua ys wyfe which conceaved and bare Cain and sayd: I haue goten a ma of the LORde.
2 Et de nouveau elle enfanta son frère Abel. Or Abel fut pasteur de brebis, et Caïn laboureur.
And she proceded forth and bare hys brother Abell: And Abell became a sheperde And Cain became a ploweman.
3 Et il arriva après bien des jours que Caïn offrait des fruits de la terre en présent au Seigneur.
And it fortuned in processe of tyme that Cain brought of the frute of the erth: an offerynge vnto the LORde.
4 Abel aussi offrit des premiers-nés de son troupeau, et des plus gras: et le Seigneur regarda Abel et ses dons.
And Abell he brought also of the fyrstlynges of hys shepe and of the fatt of them. And the LORde loked vnto Abell and to his offeynge:
5 Mais Caïn et ses dons, il ne les regarda pas: aussi Caïn fut violemment irrité, et son visage fut abattu.
but vnto Cain and vnto his offrynge looked he not. And Cain was wroth exceadingly and loured.
6 Et le Seigneur lui dit: Pourquoi es-tu irrité, et pourquoi ton visage est-il abattu?
And the LORde sayd vnto Cain: why art thou angry and why loureste thou? Wotest thou not yf thou dost well thou shalt receave it?
7 Si tu fais bien, n’en recevras-tu pas la récompense? et si tu fais mal, le péché ne sera-t-il pas soudain à ta porte? Mais la concupiscence qui t’entraîne vers lui sera sous toi, et tu la domineras.
But and yf thou dost evell by and by thy synne lyeth open in the dore. Not withstondyng let it be subdued vnto the ad see thou rule it.
8 Or Caïn dit à Abel son frère: Sortons dehors. Et lorsqu’ils étaient dans la campagne, Caïn se leva contre son frère Abel et le tua.
And Cain talked wyth Abell his brother. And as soone as they were in the feldes Cain fell vppon Abell his brother and slewe hym
9 Le Seigneur dit alors à Caïn: Où est Abel ton frère? Il répondit: Je ne sais; suis-je le gardien de mon frère, moi?
And ye LORde sayd vnto Cain: where is Abell thy brother? And he sayd: I can not tell am I my brothers keper?
10 Mais le Seigneur lui repartit: Qu’as-tu fait? la voix du sang de ton frère crie de la terre jusqu’à moi.
And he sayd: What hast thou done? the voyce of thy brothers bloud cryeth vnto me out of the erth.
11 Maintenant donc, maudit tu seras sur la terre qui a ouvert sa bouche et qui a reçu de ta main le sang de ton frère.
And now cursed be thou as pertaynyng to the erth which opened hyr mouth to receaue thy brothers bloud of thyne hande.
12 Lors même que tu l’auras cultivée, elle ne te donnera pas ses fruits: tu seras errant et fugitif sur la terre.
For when thou tyllest the grounde she shall heceforth not geve hyr power vnto the. A vagabunde and a rennagate shalt thou be vpon the erth.
13 Mais Caïn dit au Seigneur: Elle est trop grande, mon iniquité, pour que je mérite le pardon.
And Cain sayd vnto the LORde: my synne is greater then that it may be forgeven.
14 Voilà que vous me rejetez aujourd’hui de la face de la terre, je me cacherai de votre face, et je serai errant et fugitif sur la terre: quiconque donc me trouvera, me tuera.
Beholde thou castest me out thys day from of the face of the erth and fro thy syghte must I hyde my selfe ad I must be wandrynge and a vagabunde vpon the erth: Morover whosoever fyndeth me wyll kyll me,
15 Mais le Seigneur lui répondit: Non, il n’en sera pas ainsi; car quiconque tuera Caïn, sera puni sept fois. Et le Seigneur mit un signe sur Caïn, afin que quiconque le trouverait, ne le tuât pas.
And the LORde sayd vnto hi Not so but whosoever sleyth Cain shalbe punyshed. vij. folde. And ye LORde put a marke vpo Cain that no ma yt founde hym shulde kyll hym.
16 Étant donc sorti de la présence du Seigneur, Caïn fugitif habita dans le pays qui est au côté oriental d’Eden.
And Cain went out fro the face of the LORde and dwelt in the lande Nod on the east syde of Eden.
17 Cependant Caïn connut sa femme, laquelle conçut et enfanta Hénoch, et il bâtit une ville, et il lui donna le nom d’Hénoch, tiré du nom de son fils.
And Cain laye wyth hys wyfe which conceaved and bare Henoch. And he was buyldinge a cyte and called the name of it after the name of hys sonne Henoch.
18 Or Hénoch engendra Irad, Irad engendra Maviaël, Maviaël engendra Mathusaël, et Mathusaël engendra Lamech,
And Henoch begat Irad. And Irad begat Mahuiael. And Mahuiael begat Mathusael. And Mathusael begat Lamech.
19 Lequel prit deux femmes: le nom de l’une était Ada, et le nom de l’autre. Sella.
And Lamech toke hym two wyves: the one was called Ada and the other Zilla.
20 Et Ada enfanta Jabel, qui fut le père de ceux qui habitent sous les tentes, et des pasteurs.
And Ada bare Iabal of whome came they that dwell in tentes ad possesse catell.
21 Et le nom de son frère était Jubal; c’est le père de ceux qui jouent de la harpe et de l’orgue.
And hys brothers name was Iubal: of hym came all that excercyse them selves on the harpe and on the organs
22 Sella aussi engendra Tubalcaïn, qui sut travailler avec le marteau, et faire toutes sortes d’ouvrages d’airain et de fer. La sœur de Tubalcaïn fut Noëma.
And Zilla she also bare Tubalcain a worker in metall and a father of all that grave in brasse and yeron. And Tubalcains syster was called Naema.
23 Or Lamech dit à ses femmes Ada et Sella: Entendez ma voix, femmes de Lamech, prêtez l’oreille à mes paroles: j’ai tué un homme à cause de ma blessure, et un jeune homme à cause de ma meurtrissure.
Then sayd Lamech vnto hys wyves Ada ad Zilla: heare my voyce ye wyves of Lamech and herken vnto my wordes for I haue slayne a man and wounded my selfe and haue slayn a yongman and gotte my selfe strypes:
24 Caïn sera vengé sept fois, mais Lamech septante fois sept fois.
For Cain shall be avenged sevenfolde: but Lamech seventie tymes sevenfolde.
25 Adam connut encore sa femme, et elle enfanta un fils, et elle l’appela du nom de Seth, disant: Dieu m’a donné un autre fils à la place d’Abel qu’a tué Caïn.
Adam also laye with hys wyfe yet agayne and she bare a sonne ad called hys name Seth For god (sayd she) hath geven me a nother sonne For Abell whom Cain slewe.
26 Et à Seth aussi naquit un fils qu’il appela Enos; celui-ci commença à invoquer le nom du Seigneur.
And Seth begat a sonne and called hys name Enos. And in that tyme began men to call on the name of the LORde.
