Genèse 35

1 Cependant Dieu dit à Jacob: Lève-toi, et monte à Béthel; demeure là, et fais un autel au Dieu qui t’apparut, quand tu fuyais Esaü ton frère.

And God sayd vnto Iacob aryse ad get the vp to Bethell and dwell there. And make there an aulter vnto God that apeared vnto the when thou fleddest from Esau thy brother.

2 Jacob donc, toute sa maison assemblée, dit: Jetez les dieux étrangers qui sont au milieu de vous, purifiez-vous, et changez vos vêtements.

Than sayd Iacob vnto his housholde and to all yt were with him put away the strauge goddes that are amonge you and make youre selues cleane and chaunge youre garmetes

3 Levez-vous et montons à Béthel, afin que nous fassions là un autel au Dieu qui m’a exaucé au jour de ma tribulation et qui a été le compagnon de mon voyage.

and let vs aryse and goo vp to Bethell yt I maye make an aulter there vnto God which herde me in the daye of my tribulatio and was wyth me in the waye which I went.

4 Ils lui donnèrent donc tous les dieux étrangers qu’ils avaient, et les pendants qui étaient à leurs oreilles; et lui les enfouit sous le térébinthe qui est derrière la ville de Sichem.

And they gaue vnto Iacob all the straunge goddes which were vnder their handes ad all their earynges which were in their eares and Iacob hyd them vnder an ooke at Sichem.

5 Et lorsqu’ils furent partis, la terreur de Dieu saisit toutes les villes d’alentour, et on n’osa pas les poursuivre dans leur retraite.

And they departed. And the feare of God fell vpon the cyties that were rounde aboute them that they durst not folowe after the sonnes of Iacob.

6 Jacob donc vint à Luza, qui est dans la terre de Chanaan, et surnommée Béthel, lui et tous ses gens avec lui.

So came Iacob to Lus in the lande of Canaan otherwise called Bethell with all the people that was with him.

7 Il bâtit là un autel, et il appela ce lieu du nom de Maison de Dieu; car c’est là que lui apparut Dieu, lorsqu’il fuyait son frère.

And he buylded there an aulter and called the place Elbethell: because that God appered vnto him there when he fled from his brother.

8 Dans le même temps mourut Débora, nourrice de Rébecca, et elle fut ensevelie au pied de Béthel sous le chêne: et on donna à ce lieu le nom de Chêne de pleur.

Than dyed Deborr Rebeccas norse and was buryed benethe Bethell vnder an ooke. And the name of it was called the ooke of lamentation.

9 Mais Dieu apparut de nouveau à Jacob, après qu’il fut revenu de la Mésopotamie de Syrie, et il le bénit,

And God appeared vnto Iacob agayne after he came out of Mesopotamia and blessed him

10 Disant: Tu ne seras plus appelé Jacob, mais Israël sera ton nom. Et il l’appela Israël.

and sayde vnto him: thy name is Iacob. Notwithstondynge thou shalt be nomore called Iacob but Israel shalbe thy name. And so was his name called Israell.

11 Il lui dit aussi: Je suis le Dieu tout-puissant; crois et te multiplie; des peuples et une foule de nations viendront de toi, et des rois sortiront de tes flancs;

And God sayde vnto him: I am God allmightie growe and multiplye: for people and a multitude of people shall sprynge of the yee ad kynges shall come out of they loynes.

12 Et la terre que j’ai donnée à Abraham et à Isaac, je te la donnerai, à toi et à ta postérité après toi.

And the lande which I gaue Abraha and Isaac will I geue vnto the and vnto thi seed after the will I geue it also.

13 Et il s’éloigna de lui.

And god departed fro him in the place where he talked with him.

14 Mais lui érigea un monument de pierre au lieu où Dieu lui avait parlé, faisant des libations dessus et y répandant de l’huile;

And Iacob set vp a marke in the place where he talked with him: euen a pilloure of stone and powred drynkeoffringe theron and powred also oyle theron

15 Et donnant à ce lieu le nom de Béthel.

and called the name of the place where God spake with him Bethell.

16 Or, parti de là, il vint au printemps dans la terre qui conduit à Ephrata. Comme Rachel y était en travail,

And they departed from Bethel and when he was but a feld brede from Ephrath Rahel began to trauell. And in travelynge she was in perell.

17 À cause de la difficulté de l’enfantement, elle commença à être en danger. Or la sage-femme lui dit: Ne crains point; car tu auras encore ce fils.

And as she was in paynes of hir laboure the mydwyfe sayde vnto her: feare not for thou shalt haue this sonne also.

18 Mais son âme étant près de sortir par l’excès de la douleur, et la mort déjà s’approchant, elle appela son fils du nom de Bénoni, c’est-à-dire, fils de ma douleur; mais son père l’appela Benjamin, c’est-à-dire, fils de la droite.

Then as hir soule was a departinge that she must dye: she called his name Ben Oni. But his father called him Ben Iamin.

19 Rachel mourut donc, et elle fut ensevelie sur le chemin qui conduit à Ephrata; c’est Bethléem.

And thus dyed Rahel ad was buryed in the waye to Ephrath which now is called Bethlehem.

20 Et Jacob érigea un monument sur son sépulcre: c’est le monument du sépulcre de Rachel, jusqu’au présent jour.

And Iacob sett vp a piller apon hir graue which is called Rahels graue piller vnto this daye.

21 Sorti de là, il planta sa tente au-delà de la Tour du troupeau.

And Israell went thece and pitched vp his tent beyonde the toure of Eder.

22 Et pendant qu’il habitait en cette contrée, Ruben s’en alla et dormit avec Bala, seconde femme de son père; ce qui ne fut nullement ignoré de lui. Or, les fils de Jacob étaient douze:

And it chaunced as Israel dwelt in that lande that Ruben went and laye with Bilha his fathers concubyne and it came to Israels eare. The sonnes of Iacob were. xij. in nombre.

23 Les fils de Lia: Ruben, premier-né, Siméon, Lévi, Juda, Issachar et Zabulon;

The sonnes of Lea. Ruben Iacobs eldest sonne and Simeo Leui Iuda Isachar and Zabulon

24 Les fils de Rachel: Joseph et Benjamin;

The sonnes of Rahel: Ioseph and Ben Iamin.

25 Les fils de Bala, servante de Rachel: Dan et Nephtali;

The sonnes of Bilha Rahels mayde: Dan and Nepthali.

26 Les fils de Zelpha, servante de Lia: Gad et Aser. Ce sont là les fils de Jacob qui lui naquirent en Mésopotamie de Syrie.

The sonnes of Zilpha Leas mayde Gad and Aser. Thes are the sones of Iacob which were borne him in Mesopotamia.

27 Jacob vint aussi vers Isaac son père à Mambré, ville d’Arbée (c’est Hébron), en laquelle demeurèrent comme étrangers Abraham et Isaac.

Then Iacob went vnto Isaac his father to Mamre a pricipall cyte otherwise called Hebron: where Abraha and Isaac sogeorned as straungers.

28 Et les jours d’Isaac complétèrent cent quatre-vingts ans.

And the dayes of Isaac were an hundred and. lxxx. yeres:

29 Et, consumé par l’âge, il mourut; et il fut réuni à son peuple, vieux et plein de jours; et Esaü et Jacob ses fils l’ensevelirent.

and than fell he seke and dyed ad was put vnto his people: beynge olde and full of dayes. And his sonnes Esau ad Iacob buried him.
