Genèse 28
1 C’est pourquoi Isaac appela Jacob, le bénit et lui commanda, disant; Ne prends pas une femme de la race de Chanaan:
Then Izhak called Iaakob and blessed him, and charged him, and sayde vnto him, Take not a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2 Mais va, et pars pour la Mésopotamie de Syrie, dans la maison de Bathuel, père de ta mère, et prends de là une femme d’entre les filles de Laban ton oncle;
Arise, get thee to Padan Aram to the house of Bethuel thy mothers father, and thence take thee a wife of the daughters of Laban thy mothers brother.
3 Et que le Dieu tout-puissant te bénisse, qu’il te fasse croître et qu’il te multiplie, afin que tu sois le père d’un grand nombre de peuples;
And God all sufficient blesse thee, and make thee to encrease, and multiplie thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people,
4 Et qu’il te donne les bénédictions d’Abrabam, à toi et à ta postérité après toi, afin que tu possèdes la terre de ton pèlerinage qu’il a promise à ton aïeul.
And giue thee the blessing of Abraham, euen to thee and to thy seede with thee, that thou mayest inherite the lande (wherein thou art a stranger, ) which God gaue vnto Abraham.
5 Lorsqu’Isaac eut renvoyé Jacob, celui-ci étant parti, vint en Mésopotamie de Syrie, chez Laban, fils de Bathuel, Syrien, frère de Rébecca sa mère.
Thus Izhak sent forth Iaakob, and he went to Padan Aram vnto Laban sonne of Bethuel the Aramite, brother to Rebekah, Iaakobs and Esaus mother.
6 Mais Esaü, voyant que son père avait béni Jacob, et qu’il l’avait envoyé en Mésopotamie de Syrie, pour en prendre une femme; et qu’après la bénédiction, il lui avait commandé, disant: Tu ne prendras point de femme d’entre les filles de Chanaan;
When Esau sawe that Izhak had blessed Iaakob, and sent him to Padan Aram, to set him a wife thence, and giuen him a charge when he blessed him, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan,
7 Et que Jacob, obéissant à ses parents, était allé en Syrie;
And that Iaakob had obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan Aram:
8 Sachant aussi par expérience que son père ne voyait pas avec plaisir les filles de Chanaan,
Also Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan displeased Izhak his father,
9 Il alla vers Ismaël, et prit pour femme, outre celles qu’il avait déjà, Mahéleth, fille d’Ismaël fils d’Abraham, sœur de Nabaïoth.
Then went Esau to Ishmael, and tooke vnto the wiues, which he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abrahams sonne, the sister of Nabaioth, to be his wife.
10 Jacob donc, sorti de Bersabée, poursuivait son chemin vers Haran.
Now Iaakob departed from Beer-sheba, and went to Haran,
11 Or, lorsqu’il fut venu en un certain lieu, et qu’il voulait s’y reposer, après le coucher du soleil, il prit une des pierres qui étaient là, et la mettant sous sa tête, il dormit en ce même lieu.
And he came vnto a certaine place, and taried there al night, because the sunne was downe, and tooke of the stones of the place, and layde vnder his head and slept in the same place.
12 Alors il vit en songe une échelle posée sur la terre, et dont le sommet touchait au ciel, les anges de Dieu aussi qui la montaient et la descendaient.
Then he dreamed, and behold, there stoode a ladder vpon the earth, and the top of it reached vp to heauen: and loe, the Angels of God went vp and downe by it.
13 Et le Seigneur appuyé sur l’échelle, lui disant: Je suis le Seigneur, le Dieu d’Abraham ton père et le Dieu d’Isaac; la terre sur laquelle tu dors, je te la donnerai, à toi et à ta postérité.
And behold, the Lord stoode aboue it, and sayd, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Izhak: the land, vpon the which thou sleepest, wil I giue thee and thy seede.
14 Et elle sera, ta postérité, comme la poussière de la terre, et tu t’étendras à l’occident et à l’orient, au septentrion et au midi; et seront bénies en toi et en ta postérité toutes les tribus de la terre.
And thy seede shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the West, and to the East, and to the North, and to the South, and in thee and in thy seede shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15 Et je serai ton gardien partout où tu iras, et je te ramènerai dans ce pays, et je ne te quitterai point, que je n’aie accompli tout ce que j’ai dit.
And lo, I am with thee, and wil keepe thee whithersoeuer thou goest, and will bring thee againe into this lande: for I will not forsake thee vntill I haue performed that, that I haue promised thee.
16 Quand Jacob fut éveillé de son sommeil, il dit: Vraiment le Seigneur est en ce lieu, et moi je ne le savais pas.
Then Iaakob awoke out of his sleepe, and sayde, Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware.
17 Et, saisi d’effroi: Qu’il est terrible, dit-il, ce lieu-ci! Ce n’est autre chose que la maison de Dieu et la porte du ciel.
And he was afraid, and said, How fearefull is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heauen.
18 Se levant donc le matin, Jacob prit la pierre qu’il avait mise sous sa tête, et l’érigea en monument, répandant de l’huile dessus,
Then Iaakob rose vp early in the morning, and tooke the stone that hee had layde vnder his head, and set it vp as a pillar, and powred oyle vpon the top of it.
19 Et il appela du nom de Béthel la ville qui auparavant s’appelait Luza.
And he called ye name of that place Bethel: notwithstanding the name of the citie was at the first called Luz.
20 Il voua aussi un vœu, disant: Si le Seigneur Dieu est avec moi, s’il me garde dans le chemin par lequel je marche, et me donne du pain pour me nourrir et des vêtements pour me couvrir,
Then Iaakob vowed a vowe, saying, If God will be with me, and will keepe me in this iourney which I go, and wil giue me bread to eate, and clothes to put on:
21 Et que je retourne heureusement à la maison de mon père, le Seigneur sera mon Dieu;
So that I come againe vnto my fathers house in safetie, then shall the Lord be my God.
22 Et cette pierre, que j’ai érigée en monument, sera appelée Maison de Dieu; et de tout ce que vous m’aurez donné, Seigneur, je vous offrirai la dîme.
And this stone, which I haue set vp as a pillar, shall be Gods house: and of all that thou shalt giue me, wil I giue the tenth vnto thee.
