Genèse 23
1 Or Sara vécut cent vingt-sept ans.
Sara was an hundred and. xxvij. yere olde (for so longe lyued she)
2 Et elle mourut dans la ville d’Arbée, qui est Hébron, dans la terre de Chanaan; et Abraham vint pour faire le deuil et pour la pleurer.
and than dyed in a heade cyte called Hebron in the londe of Canaan. Than Abraham came to morne Sara and to wepe for her.
3 Et lorsqu’il se fut levé après les devoirs funéraires, il parla aux fils de Heth, disant:
And Abraham stode vp from the coorse and talked with the sonnes of heth saynge:
4 Je suis parmi vous étranger et voyageur: donnez-moi le droit de sépulture chez vous, afin que j’ensevelisse mon mort.
I am a straunger ad a foryner amonge yow geue me a possession to bury in with you that I may bury my dead oute of my sighte.
5 Les fils de Heth répondirent, disant:
And the children of heth answered Abraham saynge vnto him:
6 Ecoute-nous, seigneur, tu es un prince de Dieu au milieu de nous; ensevelis ton mort dans le plus beau de nos sépulcres; nul ne pourra t’empêcher d’ensevelir ton mort dans son tombeau.
heare vs lorde thou art a prynce of God amonge vs. In the chefest of oure sepulchres bury thy dead: None of vs shall forbydd ye his sepulchre yt thou shuldest not bury thy deade therein.
7 Abraham se leva, et se prosterna devant le peuple de ce pays, c’est-à-dire, les fils de Heth;
Abraha stode vp and bowed hi selfe before ye people of ye lade ye childre of heth.
8 Et il leur dit: S’il plaît à votre âme que j’ensevelisse mon mort, écoutez-moi et intercédez pour moi auprès d’Ephron, fils de Séor,
And he comoned with them saynge: Yf it be youre myndes yt I shall bury my deade oute of my sighte heare me ad speke for me to Ephron the sonne of Zoar:
9 Afin qu’il me donne la caverne double qu’il a à l’extrémité de son champ; que pour un prix convenable, il me la livre devant vous, afin que j’y possède un sépulcre.
and let him geue me the dubill caue which he hath in the end of his felde for as moch money as it is worth let him geue it me in the presence of you for a possession to bury in.
10 Or, Ephron habitait au milieu des fils de Heth. Ephron répondit donc à Abraham, devant tous ceux qui entraient à la porte de la ville, disant:
For Hephron dwelled amoge ye childern of heth. Than Ephron the Hethite answered Abraham in the audyece of the childern of Heth and of all that went in at the gates of his cyte saynge:
11 Non, il n’en sera pas ainsi, mon seigneur; mais toi, écoute plutôt ce que je dis: Je te livre le champ et la caverne qui est dans ce champ, en présence des fils de mon peuple; ensevelis ton mort.
Not so my lorde but heare me: The felde geue I the and the caue that therein is geue I the also And even in the presence of the sonnes of my people geve I it the to bury thy deede in.
12 Abraham se prosterna devant le peuple de ce pays,
Than Abraham bowed himselfe before the people of the lade
13 Et dit à Ephron, le peuple l’environnant: Je te prie de m’écouter; je donnerai l’argent pour le champ; prends-le, et ainsi j’y ensevelirai mon mort.
and spake vnto Ephro in the audyence of the people of the contre saynge: I praye the heare me I will geue sylver for the felde take it of me ad so will I bury my deed there.
14 Et Ephron répondit:
Ephron answered Abraha saynge vnto him
15 Mon seigneur, écoute-moi: la terre que tu demandes vaut quatre cents sicles d’argent; c’est le prix entre moi et toi; mais qu’est-ce que cela? ensevelis ton mort.
My lorde harken vnto me. The lande is worth iiij. hundreth sycles of syluer: But what is that betwixte the and me? bury thy deede.
16 Ce qu’Abraham ayant entendu, il fit peser l’argent qu’Ephron avait demandé, en présence des fils de Heth, quatre cents sicles d’argent en monnaie de bon aloi et ayant cours.
And Abraham harkened vnto Ephron and weyde him the sylver which he had sayde in the audyence of the sonnes of Heth. Euen. iiij. hudred syluer sycles of currant money amonge marchauntes
17 Et le champ jadis d’Ephron, dans lequel était une caverne double, en face de Mambré, aussi bien que la caverne et tous les arbres qui bordaient le champ de tous côtés, fut assuré
Thus was the felde of Ephron where in the dubbill caue is before Mamre: euen the felde and the caue that is therein and all the trees of the felde which growe in all the borders rounde aboute made sure
18 A Abraham comme propriété sous les yeux des fils de Heth et de tous ceux qui entraient à la porte de la ville.
vnto Abraham for a possession in the syghte of the childern of Heth and of all that went in at the gates of the cyte.
19 Et ainsi Abraham ensevelit Sara sa femme dans la caverne double du champ, en face de Mambré; c’est Hébron, dans la terre de Chanaan.
And then Abraham buried Sara his wyfe in the double caue of the felde that lyeth before Mare otherwise called Ebron in the lande of Canaan.
20 Le champ donc et la caverne qui étaient dans le champ furent assurés à Abraham comme propriété de tombeau, par les fils de Heth.
And so both the felde ad the caue that is therein was made vnto Abraham a sure possession to bury in of the sonnes of Heth.
