Ézéchiel 9
1 Et il cria à mes oreilles d’une voix forte, disant: Les visitations de la ville s’approchent, et chacun a un instrument de meurtre dans sa main.
And he cried in my ears with a loud voice, saying: The visitations of the city are at hand, and every one hath a destroying weapon in his hand.
2 Et voilà que six hommes venaient de la voie de la porte supérieure qui regarde vers l’aquilon, et l’instrument de mort de chacun était dans sa main, un homme aussi au milieu d’eux était vêtu de lin, et l’écritoire du scribe était attachée à ses reins; et ils entrèrent, et ils se tinrent près de l’autel d’airain;
And behold six men came from the way of the upper gate, which looketh to the north: and each one had his weapon of destruction in his hand: and there was one man in the midst of them clothed with linen, with a writer’s inkhorn at his reins: and they went in, and stood by the brazen altar.
3 Et la gloire du Dieu d’Israël s’éleva de dessus le chérubin sur lequel elle était, vers le seuil de la maison; et elle appela l’homme qui était vêtu de lin, et qui avait l’écritoire du scribe à ses reins.
And the glory of the Lord of Israel went up from the cherub, upon which he was, to the threshold of the house: and he called to the man that was clothed with linen, and had a writer’s inkhorn at his loins.
4 Et le Seigneur lui dit: Passe par le milieu de la cité, au milieu de Jérusalem, et marque un thau sur les fronts des hommes qui gémissent et qui souffrent de toutes les abominations qui se font au milieu d’elle.
And the Lord said to him: Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem: and mark Thau upon the foreheads of the men that sigh, and mourn for all the abominations that are committed in the midst thereof.
5 Et aux au très, il dit, moi l’entendant: Traversez la cité en le suivant, et frappez; que votre œil n’épargne pas, et n’ayez pas de pitié.
And to the others he said in my hearing: Go ye after him through the city, and strike: let not your eyes spare, nor be ye moved with pity.
6 Le vieillard, le jeune homme, et la vierge, l’enfant et les femmes, tuez-les jusqu’à extermination complète; mais ne tuez personne sur qui vous verrez le thau; et commencez par mon sanctuaire. Ils commencèrent donc par les anciens qui étaient devant la maison.
Utterly destroy old and young, maidens, children and women: but upon whomsoever you shall see Thau, kill him not, and begin ye at my sanctuary. So they began at the ancient men who mere before the house.
7 Et il leur dit: Souillez la maison et remplissez les parvis de tués, sortez. Et ils sortirent, et ils frappaient ceux qui étaient dans la cité.
And he said to them: Defile the house, and ill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and slew them that were in the city.
8 Et, le carnage achevé, moi je demeurai, et je tombai sur ma face, et je dis en criant: hélas, hélas, hélas, Seigneur Dieu; perdrez-vous donc entièrement tous les restes d’Israël, en répandant votre fureur sur Jérusalem?
And the slaughter being ended I was left: and I fell upon my face, and crying, I said: Alas, alas, alas, O Lord God, wilt thou then destroy all the remnant of Israel, by pouring out thy fury upon Jerusalem?
9 Et il me dit: L’iniquité de la maison d’Israël et de Juda est grande, très grande; et la terre est remplie de sang, et la cité est pleine de révolte; car ils ont dit: Le Seigneur a délaissé la terre, le Seigneur ne voit pas.
And he said to me: The iniquity of the house of Israel, and of Juda, is exceeding great, and the land is filled with blood, and the city is filled with perverseness: for they have said: The Lord hath forsaken the earth, and the Lord seeth not.
10 Ainsi donc mon œil n’épargnera pas, et je n’aurai pas de pitié; leur voie, je la ramènerai sur leur tête.
Therefore neither shall my eye spare, nor will I have pity: I will requite their way upon their head.
11 Et voilà que l’homme vêtu de lin, qui avait l’écritoire à son dos, répondit une parole, disant: J’ai fait comme vous m’avez ordonné.
And behold the man that was clothed with linen, that had the inkhorn at his back, returned the word, saying: I have done as thou hast commanded me.
