Ézéchiel 20
1 Or il arriva en la septième année, au cinquième mois, au dixième jour du mois, que des hommes d’entre les anciens d’Israël vinrent pour consulter le Seigneur, et qu’ils s’assirent devant moi.
And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, that certain men of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the Lord, and they sat down before me.
2 Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée, disant:
And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
3 Fils d’un homme, parle aux anciens d’Israël, et tu leur diras: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Est-ce pour me consulter que vous êtes venus, vous? Je vis, moi, je ne vous répondrai point, dit le Seigneur Dieu.
Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Is it to inquire of me that ye are coming? as I live, I will not let myself be inquired of by you, saith the Lord Eternal.
4 Si tu les juges, fils d’un homme, si tu les juges, montre leur les abominations de leurs pères.
Wilt thou take them to task, wilt thou take them to task, son of man? then cause them to know the abominations of their fathers;
5 Et tu leur diras: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Au jour où je choisis Israël, et où je levai ma main pour la race de la maison de Jacob, et où je leur apparus dans la terre de l’Egypte, et où je levai ma main pour eux, disant: Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu;
And say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, On the day when I made choice of Israel, I lifted up my hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and I made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt: and I lifted up my hand unto them, saying, I am the Lord your God.
6 En ce jour-là, je levai ma main pour eux, afin de les conduire de la terre d’Egypte dans une terre que je leur avais destinée, où coulent du lait et du miel, et qui est excellente entre toutes les terres.
On the same day I lifted up my hand unto them, to bring them forth from the land of Egypt into a land that I had selected for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is an ornament among all the countries.
7 Et je leur dis: Que chacun éloigne les scandales de ses yeux, et ne vous souillez point par les idoles de l’Egypte; je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu.
And I said unto them, Cast ye away every one of the abominations of his eyes, and on the idols of Egypt shall ye not defile yourselves: I am the Lord your God.
8 Mais ils m’ont irrité, et n’ont pas voulu m’écouler, aucun d’eux n’a rejeté les abominations de leurs yeux, et ils n’ont pas quitté les idoles de l’Egypte; et j’ai dit que je répandrais mon indignation sur eux, et que j’assouvirais ma colère sur eux, au milieu de la terre d’Egypte.
But they rebelled against me, and they would not hearken unto me; they did not cast away every one the abominations of their eyes, and the idols of Egypt did they not forsake: and I thought then to pour out my fury over them, to let out all my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
9 Mais j’ai agi à cause de mon nom, afin qu’il ne fût pas violé devant les nations au milieu desquelles ils étaient, et parmi lesquelles je leur ai apparu, afin de les retirer de la terre d’Egypte.
But I acted for the sake of my name, so as not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, in the midst of whom they were; because I had made myself known unto them before their eyes, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt.
10 Je les ai donc fait sortir de la terre d’Egypte, et je les ai conduits dans le désert.
I therefore caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
11 Et je leur ai donné mes préceptes, je leur ai fait connaître mes ordonnances, dans lesquelles l’homme qui les accomplira trouvera la vie.
And I gave them my statutes, and my ordinances made I known to them, which a man is to do, that he may live through them.
12 De plus je leur donnai aussi mes sabbats, afin qu’ils fussent un signe entre moi et eux, et qu’ils sussent que je suis le Seigneur qui les sanctifie.
And also my sabbaths gave I unto them, to be as a sign between me and between them, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctify them.
13 Mais la maison d’Israël m’a irrité dans le désert; ils n’ont pas marché dans mes préceptes; ils ont rejeté mes ordonnances dans lesquelles l’homme qui les accomplira trouvera la vie, et mes sabbats, ils les ont violés grièvement: j’ai dit donc que je répandrais ma fureur sur eux dans le désert, et que je les exterminerais.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; in my statutes they walked not, and my ordinances they despised, which a man is to do, that he may live through them; and my sabbaths they greatly profaned: and I then thought to pour out my fury over them in the wilderness, to make an end of them.
14 Mais j’ai fait autrement à cause de mon nom, afin qu’il ne fût pas violé devant les nations, d’où je les ai retirés en leur propre présence.
But I acted for the sake of my name, so as not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them forth.
15 Moi donc j’ai levé ma main sur eux dans le désert, pour ne les pas faire entrer dans la terre que je leur avais donnée, où coulent du lait et du miel, la principale de toutes les terres;
Yet did I also lift up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given [them], flowing with milk and honey, which is an ornament among all the countries.
16 Parce qu’ils ont rejeté mes ordonnances, et qu’ils n’ont pas marché dans mes préceptes, et qu’ils ont violé mes sabbats; car c’est à la suite des idoles que leur cœur allait.
Because my ordinances they had despised, and in my statutes they had not walked, and my sabbaths they had profaned; for after their idols did their heart go.
17 Et mon œil les a épargnés pour ne pas leur ôter la vie, et je ne les ai pas exterminés dans le désert.
Nevertheless my eye looked pityingly on them, so as not to destroy them, and I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.
18 Mais j’ai dit à leurs enfants dans la solitude: Ne marchez point dans les préceptes de vos pères, ne gardez point leurs coutumes, et ne vous souillez point par leurs idoles.
And I said unto their children in the wilderness, In the statutes of your fathers shall ye not walk, and their ordinances shall ye not keep, and on their idols shall ye not defile yourselves.
19 Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu; marchez dans mes préceptes, gardez mes ordonnances et pratiquez-les;
I am the Lord your God: in my statutes must ye walk, and my ordinances must ye keep, and do them;
20 Et mes sabbats, sanctifiez-les, afin qu’ils soient un signe entre moi et vous, et que vous sachiez que moi, je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu.
And my sabbaths must ye sanctify; and they shall be as a sign between me and between you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God.
21 Mais les enfants m’ont aigri, ils n’ont pas marché dans mes préceptes, et ils n’ont pas gardé mes ordonnances, de manière à accomplir les choses par lesquelles l’homme qui les aura accomplies vivra; et mes sabbats, ils les ont violés; et j’ai menacé de répandre ma fureur sur eux, et d’assouvir ma colère sur eux dans le désert.
Nevertheless the children rebelled against me; in my statutes did they not walk, and my ordinances they kept not to do them, which a man is to do, that he may live through them; my sabbaths they profaned: and I then thought to pour out my fury over them, to let out all my anger against them in the wilderness.
22 Mais j’ai détourné ma main, et j’ai agi à cause de mon nom, afin qu’il ne fût pas violé devant les nations, d’où je les ai retirés sous leurs propres yeux.
But I withdrew my hand, and acted for the sake of my name, so as not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them forth.
23 De nouveau j’ai levé ma main sur eux dans la solitude, afin de les disperser parmi les nations et de les jeter au vent dans les divers pays;
I also lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations, and disperse them through the countries;
24 Parce qu’ils n’avaient pas observé mes ordonnances, et qu’ils avaient rejeté mes préceptes, et violé mes sabbats, et que leurs yeux s’étaient portés sur les idoles de leurs pères.
Because my ordinances they had not executed, and my statutes they had despised, and my sabbaths they had profaned, and after the idols of their fathers their eyes were directed.
25 Moi donc aussi je leur ai donné des préceptes qui n’étaient pas bons, et des ordonnances dans lesquelles ils ne trouveront pas la vie.
And I also let them follow statutes that were not good, and ordinances whereby they could not live;
26 Je les ai souillés dans leurs présents, lorsqu’ils offraient tout ce qui ouvre un sein, pour leurs péchés; et ils sauront que je suis le Seigneur.
And I let them be defiled through their gifts, in that they caused to pass [through the fire] all that openeth the womb, in order that I might destroy them, to the end that they might know that I am the Lord.
27 C’est pourquoi parle à la maison d’Israël, fils d’un homme, et tu leur diras: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Vos pères m’ont encore outragé en cela, qu’après qu’ils m’avaient dédaigné par leur mépris,
Therefore, speak unto the house of Israel, O son of man, and say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Yet in this too did your fathers blaspheme me, by their committing a trespass against me:
28 Et que je les avais fait entrer dans la terre que j’avais juré de leur donner, ils ont vu toute colline élevée et tout arbre touffu, et là ils ont immolé leurs victimes, et là ils m’ont donné un sujet d’irritation par leurs oblations, là ils ont consumé leurs parfums de suavité, et ils ont fait leurs nombreuses libations.
When I had brought them into the land, for which I had lifted up my hand to give it to them, they saw every high hill, and all the thick-branched trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and presented there their provoking offerings, and they brought there their sweet savor, and poured out there their drink-offerings.
29 Et je leur ai dit: Quel est ce haut lieu où vous allez? et on a appelé son nom Haut lieu jusqu’à ce jour.
Then said I unto them, What is this high-place whereunto ye go? And its name was called “The height” until this day.
30 À cause de cela, dis à la maison d’Israël: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Certainement vous vous souillez vous-mêmes dans la voie de vos pères, et vous forniquez à la suite de leurs pierres d’achoppement;
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Ha! do you pollute yourselves after the manner of your fathers; and after their abominations do ye go astray?
31 Et par l’oblation de vos dons, vous vous souillez, lorsque vous faites passer vos enfants au feu, et par toutes vos idoles jusqu’à ce jour; et moi je vous répondrai, maison d’Israël? Je vis, moi, dit le Seigneur Dieu, je ne vous répondrai point.
And when ye offer up your gifts, when ye make your sons pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even until this day: and I should allow myself to be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord Eternal, I will not let myself be inquired of by you.
32 Et la pensée de votre esprit ne s’accomplira pas, lorsque vous dites: Nous serons comme les nations et comme les familles de la terre, nous adorerons comme eux du bois et de la pierre.
And that which cometh up into your mind shall not at all come to pass, [namely, ] that ye say, We will be like the nations, like the families of the [other] countries, to serve wood and stone.
33 Je vis, moi, dit le Seigneur Dieu, avec une main forte, et avec un bras étendu, et dans ma fureur épanchée je régnerai sur vous.
As I live, saith the Lord Eternal, surely, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:
34 Et je vous ferai sortir du milieu des peuples, et je vous rassemblerai des pays dans lesquels vous avez été dispersés, avec une main forte, et avec un bras étendu, et dans ma fureur épanchée je régnerai sur vous.
And I will bring you out from the people, and I will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with [my] fury poured out.
35 Et je vous amènerai dans le désert des peuples, et là j’entrerai en jugement avec vous, face à face.
And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and I will hold judgment over you there, face to face.
36 Comme j’ai disputé en jugement contre vos pères dans le désert de l’Egypte, ainsi je vous jugerai, dit le Seigneur Dieu.
As I held judgment over your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I hold judgment over you, saith the Lord Eternal.
37 Et je vous assujettirai à mon sceptre, et je vous ferai entrer dans les liens de mon alliance.
And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant;
38 Et je séparerai de vous les transgresseurs et les impies; et je les ferai sortir du pays où ils demeuraient comme étrangers; mais dans la terre d’Israël ils n’entreront pas, et vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur.
And I will separate from you those that have rebelled, and those that have transgressed against me: out of the country where they sojourn will I cause them to go forth, but into the land of Israel shall not one [of them] enter; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
39 Et vous, maison d’Israël, voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Suivez chacun vos idoles et les servez. Que si en cela même vous ne m’écoutez pas, et que vous souilliez encore mon nom saint par vos présents et par vos idoles,
As for you, O house of Israel, thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter [also], if ye will not hearken unto me; but my holy name do not profane any more with your gifts, and with your idols.
40 Sur ma montagne sainte, sur la montagne élevée d’Israël, dit le Seigneur Dieu, là me servira toute la maison d’Israël; tous, dis-je, me serviront dans la terre en laquelle ils me seront agréables; et là je demanderai vos prémices et vos premières dîmes, dans tout ce que vous me consacrerez.
For on my holy mountain, on the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord Eternal, there shall serve me all the house of Israel, altogether, in the land: there will I accept them in favor, and there will I require your heave-offerings, and the first-fruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
41 Comme une odeur de suavité je vous recevrai, lorsque je vous aurai retirés d’entre les peuples, et que je vous aurai rassemblés des pays où vous avez été dispersés, et je serai sanctifié parmi vous aux yeux des nations.
With your sweet savor will I accept you in favor, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered: and I will be sanctified through you before the eyes of the nations.
42 Et vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur, lorsque je vous aurai fait rentrer dans la terre d’Israël, dans la terre pour laquelle j’ai levé ma main que je la donnerais à vos pères.
And ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for which I have lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers.
43 Et là vous vous souviendrez de vos voies, et de tous vos crimes dont vous vous êtes souillés; et vous vous déplairez à vous-mêmes à vos propres yeux, à cause de toutes les méchancetés que vous avez commises.
And ye shall remember there your ways, and all your doings, whereby ye have been defiled; and ye shall loathe yourselves, because of all your evil deeds that ye have committed.
44 Et vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur, lorsque je vous aurai fait du bien à cause de mon nom, et non point selon vos voies mauvaises, ni selon vos crimes détestables, ô maison d’Israël, dit le Seigneur Dieu.
And ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for the sake of my name, not in accordance with your wicked ways, and in accordance with your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord Eternal.
45 Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée, disant:
And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
46 Fils d’un homme, tourne la face contre la voie du midi; et répands tes paroles vers l’Africus, et prophétise à la forêt du champ du midi.
Son of man, set thy face in the direction toward the south, and preach toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the field in the south.
47 Et tu diras à la forêt du midi: Ecoute la parole du Seigneur; voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Voici que moi j’allumerai en toi un feu, et je brûlerai en toi tout arbre vert et tout arbre aride; la flamme de l’embrasement ne s’éteindra pas; et par elle toute face sera brûlée, depuis le midi jusqu’à l’aquilon.
And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the Lord, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour in thee every green tree, and every dry tree: the glowing flame shall not be quenched, and there shall be burnt therein all faces from the south to the north.
48 Et toute chair verra que moi, le Seigneur, j’ai allumé la flamme, et elle ne s’éteindra pas.
And all flesh shall see that I the Lord have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.
49 Et j’ai dit: Ah! ah! ah! Seigneur Dieu; eux disent de moi: Est-ce qu’il ne parle pas en paraboles, celui-ci?
Then said I, Ah Lord Eternal! they say of me, Behold, he speaketh but in parables!
