Ézéchiel 19
1 Et toi, prophète, emploie un chant lugubre pour les princes d’Israël,
[Yahweh said to me, “Ezekiel], sing a sad funeral [a which will be a parable] [two of the] kings of Israel.
2 Et tu diras: Pourquoi ta mère, qui est une lionne, s’est elle reposée parmi des lions, et a-t-elie nourri ses petits au milieu des lionceaux?
Say [to the Israeli people], ‘[It is as though] [MET] your mother was a brave female lion who raised her cubs among [other] lions.
3 Elle a fait sortir un de ses lionceaux, et il est devenu lion; et il a appris à ravir sa proie et à dévorer des hommes.
She taught one of them to [for other animals to kill], and he [even] learned [kill and] eat people.
4 Et les peuples ont ouï parler de lui, et ils l’ont saisi, mais non sans recevoir des blessures, et ils l’ont emmené enchaîné en Egypte.
[When people from other] nations heard about him, they trapped him in a pit. Then they used hooks to drag him to Egypt.
5 Comme la mère vit qu’elle était sans force, et que son attente était détruite, elle prit un autre de ses lionceaux, l’établit lion.
His mother waited for him [to return], but [soon] she stopped hoping/expecting [that he would return]. So she raised another cub who [also] became very fierce.
6 Il marchait parmi les lions, et il devint lion; et il apprit à ravir sa proie et à dévorer des hommes.
He hunted along with [other] [for animals to kill], and he even learned [kill and] eat people.
7 Il apprit à faire des veuves et à réduire les cités en déserts: et la terre ainsi que sa plénitude fut désolée à la voix de son rugissement.
He destroyed forts, and he ruined cities. When he roared [loudly], everyone was terrified.
8 Et contre lui des nations s’assemblèrent de toutes parts des provinces, et elles étendirent sur lui leurs rets, il fut pris, mais eu leur faisant des blessures.
So [people of other] nations planned to kill him, and men came from many places to spread out a net for him, and they caught him in a trap.
9 Et ils le mirent dans une cage, l’emmenèrent enchaîné au roi de Babylone; et ils le mirent dans la prison, afin qu’on n’entendit plus sa voix sur les montagnes d’Israël.
They tied him with chains and took him to Babylonia. And [there] he was locked in a prison, with the result that [no one on] the hills of Israel ever heard him roar again.’ [Also, say to the Israeli people, ]
10 Ta mère comme la vigne a été plantée dans ton sang sur le bord de l’eau; son fruit et ses feuilles ont crû par de grandes eaux.
‘[It is as though] [SIM] your mother was a grapevine that was planted along a stream. There was plenty of water, so it had lots of branches and produced [a lot of] grapes.
11 Et ses branches solides sont devenues des sceptres de dominateurs, et sa tige s’est élevée parmi ses feuilles, et elle a vu sa hauteur parmi la multitude de ses sarments.
That grapevine grew and became taller than all the nearby trees; [everyone could] see that it was very strong and healthy. And those branches were good for making scepters that symbolize the power/ [of a king].
12 Et elle a été arrachée avec colère, et jetée sur la terre; et un vent brûlant a desséché son fruit; les branches qui faisaient sa force se sont flétries et devenues arides; un feu l’a dévorée.
[Yahweh] became very angry, so he pulled up the vine by its roots and threw it on the ground, where the [very hot] winds from the desert dried up all its fruit. The strong branches wilted and were burned in a fire.
13 Et maintenant elle a été transplantée dans le désert, dans une terre sans voie et altérée.
Now that vine has been planted in a hot, dry desert.
14 Et il est sorti un feu de la tige de ses rameaux, lequel a dévoré son fruit, et il n’y a plus eu en elle une tige forte, sceptre de dominateurs. C’est un chant lugubre, et ce sera un chant lugubre.
A fire started to burn its stem, and then started to burn the branches and burned all the grapes. [Now] not [even] one strong branch remains; they will never become scepters for a king.’ That funeral song must be sung very sadly.”
