Ézéchiel 15

1 Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée, disant:

And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2 Fils d’un homme, que fera-t-on de l’arbre de la vigne entre tous les arbres des bois, qui sont parmi les arbres des forêts?

Son of man, What shall become of the wood of the vine more than of any other wood, of the branch which was standing among the trees of the forest?

3 Est-ce qu’on prendra du bois de la vigne pour faire un ouvrage, ou en façonnera-t-on une cheville pour y suspendre un objet quelconque?

Can wood be taken therefrom to employ it for any work? or will men take from it a pin to hang thereon any vessel?

4 Voilà qu’on le met au feu, pour en être la proie; le feu consume les deux extrémités, et le milieu est réduit en cendre brûlante; est-ce qu’il sera utile pour un ouvrage?

Behold, if it be given up to the fire to be consumed, —[and] the fire have consumed both its ends, and the middle of it be scorched; will it be fit for any work?

5 Et même lorsqu’il était entier, il n’était propre à aucun ouvrage; combien plus, lorsque le feu l’aura dévoré et entièrement brûlé, on n’en fera aucun ouvrage?

Behold, when it was yet entire, it could not be employed for any work: how much more [must this be] when the fire hath consumed it, and it is scorched, —and shall it yet be employed for any work?

6 À cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Comme l’arbre de la vigne parmi les arbres des forêts, que j’ai mis au feu pour le dévorer, ainsi je livrerai les habitants de Jérusalem.

Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given up to the fire to be consumed: so do I give up the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

7 Et je tournerai ma face contre eux; ils sortiront du feu, et le feu les consumera; et vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur, lorsque j’aurai tourné ma face contre eux,

And I will set my face against them: from the fire have they gone forth, yet the fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.

8 Et que j’aurai rendu la terre inaccessible et désolée, parce qu’ils se sont montrés prévaricateurs, dit le Seigneur Dieu.

And I will render the land a desert; because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord Eternal.
