Exode 9
1 Mais le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Va vers Pharaon, et dis-lui: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu des Hébreux: Laisse aller mon peuple, afin qu’il me sacrifie.
Then the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him: Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
2 Que si tu refuses encore et les retiens,
For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still,
3 Voilà que ma main sera sur tes champs: et sur tes chevaux, et tes ânes, et tes chameaux, et tes bœufs, et tes brebis, une peste très dangereuse.
behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which are in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the herds, and upon the flocks; there shall be a very grievous murrain.
4 Et le Seigneur fera une distinction merveilleuse entre les possessions d’Israël et les possessions des Egyptiens; en sorte que rien absolument ne périra de ce qui appartient aux enfants d’Israël.
And the LORD shall make a division between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt; and there shall nothing die of all that belongeth to the children of Israel.'
5 Et le Seigneur en a marqué le temps, disant: Demain le Seigneur accomplira cette parole en ce pays.
And the LORD appointed a set time, saying: 'Tomorrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land.'
6 Le Seigneur donc accomplit cette parole le jour suivant: et tous les animaux des Egyptiens moururent; mais parmi les animaux des enfants d’Israël rien absolument ne périt.
And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died; but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
7 Et Pharaon envoya voir: et rien n’était mort de ce que possédait Israël. Et le cœur de Pharaon s’endurcit et il ne laissa pas aller le peuple.
And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he did not let the people go.
8 Alors le Seigneur dit à Moïse et à Aaron: Prenez plein vos mains de cendre de foyer, et que Moïse la jette çà et là vers le ciel devant Pharaon;
And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron: 'Take to you handfuls of soot of the furnace, and let Moses throw it heavenward in the sight of Pharaoh.
9 Et qu’il y ait de la poussière sur toute la terre d’Egypte; car il y aura sur les hommes et les bêtes des ulcères, et de grosses tumeurs, dans toute la terre d’Egypte.
And it shall become small dust over all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.'
10 Ils prirent donc de la cendre de foyer, et ils se présentèrent devant Pharaon, et Moïse la jeta çà et là vers le ciel, et il se forma des ulcères, de grosses tumeurs sur les hommes et les bêtes.
And they took soot of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses threw it up heavenward; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast.
11 Et les magiciens ne pouvaient se tenir devant Moïse, à cause des plaies qui étaient sur eux et dans toute la terre d’Egypte.
And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.
12 Mais le Seigneur endurcit le cœur de Pharaon, et il n’écouta pas Moïse et Aaron, comme l’avait dit le Seigneur à Moïse.
And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.
13 Le Seigneur dit encore à Moïse: Lève-toi dès le matin et présente-toi devant Pharaon, et tu lui diras: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, Dieu des Hébreux: Laisse aller mon peuple, afin qu’il me sacrifie.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him: Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
14 Parce que, pour cette fois, j’enverrai toutes mes plaies sur ton cœur, et sur tes serviteurs, et sur ton peuple, afin que tu saches que nul n’est semblable à moi dans toute la terre.
For I will this time send all My plagues upon thy person, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like Me in all the earth.
15 C’est maintenant, en effet, qu’étendant la main, je frapperai toi et ton peuple de la peste, et tu périras de dessus la terre.
Surely now I had put forth My hand, and smitten thee and thy people with pestilence, and thou hadst been cut off from the earth.
16 Car je t’ai établi pour montrer en toi ma puissance, et pour que mon nom soit publié dans toute la terre.
But in very deed for this cause have I made thee to stand, to show thee My power, and that My name may be declared throughout all the earth.
17 Tu retiens encore mon peuple, et tu ne veux pas le laisser aller?
As yet exaltest thou thyself against My people, that thou wilt not let them go?
18 Voilà que je ferai pleuvoir demain à cette même heure une grêle extrêmement abondante, telle qu’il n’y en a point eu en Egypte, du jour où elle a été fondée, jusqu’au temps présent.
Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now.
19 Envoie donc dès maintenant, et rassemble tes bêtes et tout ce que tu as dans la campagne; car les hommes et les bêtes et toutes les choses qui se trouvent dehors, n’ayant pas été retirées des champs, et sur lesquelles sera tombée la grêle, mourront.
Now therefore send, hasten in thy cattle and all that thou hast in the field; for every man and beast that shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.'
20 Celui qui d’entre les serviteurs de Pharaon craignit la parole du Seigneur, fit retirer ses serviteurs et ses bêtes dans les maisons;
He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses;
21 Mais celui qui négligea le discours du Seigneur laissa ses serviteurs et ses bêtes dans les champs.
and he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.
22 Alors le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Etends ta main vers le ciel, afin qu’il fasse de la grêle dans toute la terre d’Egypte, sur les hommes, et sur les bêtes et sur toute l’herbe de la campagne dans la terre d’Egypte.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch forth thy hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.'
23 Et Moïse étendit sa verge vers le ciel, et le Seigneur donna des tonnerres et de la grêle et des éclairs qui couraient de toutes parts sur la terre: c’est ainsi que le Seigneur fit pleuvoir de la grêle sur la terre d’Egypte.
And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven; and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down unto the earth; and the LORD caused to hail upon the land of Egypt.
24 Et la grêle et le feu mêlés tombaient ensemble, et la grêle fut d’une telle grosseur, que jamais pareille ne parut dans toute la terre d’Egypte, depuis que cette nation a été fondée.
So there was hail, and fire flashing up amidst the hail, very grievous, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
25 Ainsi la grêle frappa dans toute la terre d’Egypte tout ce qui s’était trouvé dans les champs, depuis l’homme jusqu’à la bête; elle frappa aussi toute l’herbe de la campagne, et elle brisa tout arbre de la contrée.
And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.
26 Seulement dans la terre de Gessen, où étaient les enfants d’Israël, la grêle ne tomba pas.
Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.
27 Alors Pharaon envoya et appela Moïse et Aaron, leur disant: J’ai encore péché, maintenant: le Seigneur est juste; moi et mon peuple nous sommes les impies.
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them: 'I have sinned this time; the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
28 Priez le Seigneur que ces tonnerres de Dieu et la grêle cessent, afin que je vous laisse aller, et, qu’en aucune manière, vous ne demeuriez ici davantage.
Entreat the LORD, and let there be enough of these mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.'
29 Moïse répondit: Quand je serai sorti de la ville, j’étendrai mes mains vers le Seigneur, et les tonnerres cesseront, et il n’y aura plus de grêle; afin que tu saches qu’au Seigneur est la terre.
And Moses said unto him: 'As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread forth my hands unto the LORD; the thunders shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know that the earth is the LORD'S.
30 Or je sais que toi-même et tes serviteurs ne craignez pas encore le Seigneur Dieu.
But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God.' —
31 Ainsi le lin et l’orge furent gâtés, parce que l’orge était verte, et que le fin poussait déjà ses balles.
And the flax and the barley were smitten; for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bloom.
32 Mais le froment et l’épeautre ne furent point gâtés, parce qu’ils étaient tardifs.
But the wheat and the spelt were not smitten; for they ripen late. —
33 Moïse donc, sorti d’avec Pharaon et de la ville, étendit ses mains vers le Seigneur, et les tonnerres et la grêle cessèrent, et il ne tomba plus une goutte d’eau sur la terre.
And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread forth his hands unto the LORD; and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.
34 Or Pharaon, voyant que la pluie, la grêle et les tonnerres avaient cessé, aggrava son péché;
And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
35 Et son cœur et celui de ses serviteurs s’appesantirent et s’endurcirent extrêmement; et il ne laissa point aller les enfants d’Israël, comme avait ordonné le Seigneur par l’entremise de Moïse.
And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses.
