Exode 3

1 Cependant Moïse paissait les brebis de Jéthro son beau-père, prêtre de Madian; or lorsqu’il eut conduit le troupeau dans l’intérieur du désert, il vint à la montagne de Dieu, Horeb.

And Moses was keeping the flock of Jithro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock far away into the desert, and came to the mountain of God, to Choreb.

2 Et le Seigneur lui apparut dans une flamme de feu du milieu du buisson; et il voyait que le buisson brûlait et ne se consumait point.

And an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a thorn-bush; and he looked, and, behold, the thorn-bush was burning with fire, but the thorn-bush was not consumed.

3 Moïse dit donc: J’irai, et je verrai cette grande vision, pourquoi le buisson ne se consume point.

And Moses said, I must turn aside, and see this great sight, why the thorn-bush is not burnt.

4 Mais le Seigneur, voyant qu’il s’avançait pour voir, l’appela du milieu du buisson, et dit: Moïse, Moïse. Lequel répondit: Me voici.

And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see God called unto him out of the midst of the thorn-bush, and said, Moses, Moses; and he said, Here am I.

5 Et le Seigneur: N’approche point d’ici, dit-il: ôte la chaussure de tes pieds; car le lieu dans lequel tu es est une terre sainte.

And he said, Draw not nigh hither; put off thy shoes from off thy feet; for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

6 Il ajouta: Je suis le Dieu de ton père, le Dieu d’Abraham, le Dieu d’Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob. Moïse cacha sa face, car il n’osait pas regarder vers Dieu.

And he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look up to God.

7 Le Seigneur lui dit: J’ai vu l’affliction de mon peuple en Egypte, et j’ai entendu sa clameur à cause de la dureté de ceux qui président aux travaux.

And the Lord said, I have truly seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard its cry by reason of its taskmasters; yea, I know its sorrows;

8 Et sachant sa douleur, je suis descendu pour le délivrer des mains des Egyptiens, et pour le conduire de cette terre dans une autre terre bonne et spacieuse, dans une terre où coulent du lait et du miel, au pays du Chananéen, de l’Héthéen, de l’Amorrhéen, du Phérézéen, de l’Hévéen et du Jébuséen.

And I am come down to deliver it out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring it up out of that land unto a land, good and large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Emorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

9 La clameur des enfants d’Israël est venue jusqu’à moi, et j’ai vu leur affliction dont ils sont accablés par les Égyptiens.

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.

10 Mais viens, et je t’enverrai vers Pharaon, afin que tu retires mon peuple, les enfants d’Israël, de l’Egypte.

And now then go, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, and thou shalt bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

11 Et Moïse répondit à Dieu: Qui suis-je, moi, pour que j’aille vers Pharaon, et que je retire les enfants d’Israël de l’Egypte?

And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

12 Le Seigneur lui répliqua: Je serai avec toi, et tu auras ceci pour signe que je t’aurai envoyé: Lorsque tu auras retiré mon peuple de l’Egypte, tu immoleras à Dieu sur cette montagne.

And he said, Because I will be with thee; and this shall be unto thee the token, that I have sent thee: when thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

13 Moïse dit à Dieu: Voici que j’irai vers les enfants d’Israël, et je leur dirai: Le Dieu de vos pères m’a envoyé vers vous. S’ils me demandent: Quel est son nom? que leur dirai-je?

And Moses said unto God, Behold, if I come unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they then say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

14 Dieu dit à Moïse: Je suis CELUI QUI SUIS. Il ajouta: Tu diras ainsi aux enfants d’Israël: CELUI QUI EST m’a envoyé vers vous.

And God said unto Moses, I will be that I will be: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I will be hath sent me unto you.

15 Et Dieu dit encore à Moïse: Tu diras ceci aux enfants d’Israël: Le Seigneur Dieu de vos pères, le Dieu d’Abraham, le Dieu d’Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob m’a envoyé vers vous: c’est là mon nom pour l’éternité, et c’est celui qui doit me rappeler à la mémoire de génération en génération.

And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Everlasting One, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

16 Va et assemble les anciens d’Israël, et tu leur diras: Le Seigneur Dieu de vos pères m’a apparu, le Dieu d’Abraham, le Dieu d’Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob, disant: Visitant, je vous ai visités, et j’ai vu tout ce qui vous est arrivé en Egypte.

Go, and assemble the elders of Israel, and say unto them, The Everlasting One, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, hath appeared unto me, saying, I have surely taken cognizance of you and of that which is done to you in Egypt:

17 Et j’ai dit que je vous retirerai de l’affliction de l’Egypte pour vous conduire dans la terre du Chananéen, de l’Héthéen, de l’Amorrhéen, du Phérézéen, de l’Hévéen et du Jébuséen, terre où coulent du lait et du miel.

And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt, unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Emorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.

18 Et ils entendront ta voix; et tu entreras, toi et les anciens d’Israël, auprès du roi d’Egypte, et tu lui diras: Le Seigneur Dieu des Hébreux nous a appelés: nous ferons le chemin de trois journées dans le désert, afin que nous immolions au Seigneur notre Dieu.

And they will hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The Everlasting One, the God of the Hebrews hath met with us; and now let us go, we beseech thee, a three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.

19 Mais moi, je sais que le roi d’Egypte ne vous laissera pas aller, si ce n’est par une main puissante.

But I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, unless it happen through a mighty hand.

20 Aussi j’étendrai ma main, et je frapperai l’Egypte de toute sorte de prodiges que je vais faire au milieu d’eux: après cela il vous laissera aller.

And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof; and after that he will let you go.

21 Et je ferai que ce peuple trouvera grâce aux yeux des Egyptiens; et quand vous sortirez, vous ne vous en irez pas dépourvus.

And I will give this people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians; and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:

22 Mais chaque femme demandera à sa voisine et à son hôtesse des vases d’argent et dor, et des vêtements, que vous mettrez, sur vos fils et vos filles, et vous dépouillerez l’Egypte.

But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, and of her that sojourneth in her house, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments; and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall empty out Egypt.
