Exode 23
1 Tu n’accueilleras point une parole de mensonge, et tu ne prêteras pas ta main de manière à dire en faveur de l’impie un faux témoignage.
Thou shalt not receive the voice of a lie: neither shalt thou join thy hand to bear false witness for a wicked person.
2 Tu ne suivras point la multitude pour faire le mal; et en jugement tu n’acquiesceras pas à l’avis du plus grand nombre pour dévier de la vérité.
Thou shalt not follow the multitude to do evil: neither shalt thou yield in judgment, to the opinion of the most part, to stray from the truth.
3 Tu n’auras point non plus compassion du pauvre en jugement.
Neither shalt thou favour a poor man in judgment.
4 Si tu rencontres le bœuf de ton ennemi, ou son âne égaré, ramène-le-lui.
If thou meet thy enemy’s ox or ass going astray, bring it back to him.
5 Si tu vois l’âne de celui qui te hait tombé sous le fardeau, tu ne passeras pas outre, mais tu le relèveras avec lui.
If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lie underneath his burden, thou shalt not pass by, but shalt lift him up with him.
6 Ne fais point d’écarts dans le jugement du pauvre.
Thou shalt not go aside in the poor man’s judgment.
7 Tu fuiras le mensonge; tu ne feras point mourir l’innocent et le juste, parce que j’ai l’impie en aversion.
Thou shalt fly lying. The innocent and just person thou shalt not put to death: because I abhor the wicked.
8 Tu ne recevras point de présents, qui aveuglent même les sages et corrompent les paroles des justes.
Neither shalt thou take bribes, which even blind the wise, and pervert the words of the just.
9 Tu ne seras point fâcheux pour l’étranger; car vous connaissez les âmes des étrangers, puisque vous-mêmes, vous avez été étrangers dans la terre d’Egypte.
Thou shalt not molest a stranger, for you know the hearts of strangers: for you also were strangers in the land of Egypt.
10 Pendant six ans tu sèmeras ta terre et tu en recueilleras les fruits.
Six years thou shalt sow thy ground, and shalt gather the corn thereof.
11 Mais à la septième année, tu la laisseras et tu la feras reposer, afin que les pauvres de ton peuple mangent, et que tout ce qui sera de reste, les bêtes de la campagne le mangent: ainsi tu feras pour ta vigne et pour ton plant d’oliviers.
But the seventh year thou shalt let it alone, and suffer it to rest, that the poor of thy people may eat, and whatsoever shall be left, let the beasts of the field eat it: so shalt thou do with thy vineyard and thy oliveyard.
12 Pendant six jours tu travailleras, mais au septième jour tu cesseras, afin que ton bœuf et ton âne se reposent, et que le fils de ta servante, et l’étranger reprennent des forces.
Six days thou shalt work: the seventh day thou shalt cease, that thy ox and thy ass may rest: and the son of thy handmaid and the stranger may be refreshed.
13 Gardez toutes les choses que je vous ai dites, et vous ne jurerez point par le nom des dieux étrangers, et on ne l’entendra pas de votre bouche.
Keep all things that I have said to you. And by the name of strange gods you shall not swear, neither shall it be heard out of your mouth.
14 Trois fois chaque année vous célébrerez des fêtes en mon honneur.
Three times every year you shall celebrate feasts to me.
15 Tu garderas la solennité des azymes. Durant sept jours tu mangeras des azymes, comme je t’ai ordonné, au temps du mois des nouveaux fruits, quand tu es sorti de l’Egypte: tu ne paraîtras pas en ma présence les mains vides.
Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread. Seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month of new corn, when thou didst come forth out of Egypt: thou shalt not appear empty before me.
16 Tu garderas de plus la solennité de la moisson des prémices de ton travail, quoi que ce soit que tu aies semé dans ton champ; et aussi la solennité à la fin de l’année, quand tu auras recueilli tous les fruits de ton champ.
And the feast of the harvest of the firstfruits of thy work, whatsoever thou hast sown in the field. The feast also in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in all thy corn out of the field.
17 Trois fois dans l’année, paraîtront tous tes mâles en présence de moi, le Seigneur ton Dieu.
Thrice a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God.
18 Tu ne sacrifieras point sur du levain le sang de ma victime, et la graisse de ma solennité ne demeurera point jusqu’au matin.
Thou shalt not sacrifice the blood of my victim upon leaven, neither shall the fat of my solemnity remain until the morning.
19 Tu apporteras les prémices du fruit de ta terre dans la maison du Seigneur ton Dieu. Tu ne feras point cuire un chevreau dans le lait de sa mère.
Thou shalt carry the firstfruits of the corn of thy ground to the house of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not boil a kid in the milk of his dam.
20 Voilà que moi, j’enverrai mon ange, afin qu’il te précède et te garde dans le chemin, et qu’il t’introduise dans le lieu que j’ai préparé.
Behold I will send my angel, who shall go before thee, and keep thee in thy journey, and bring thee into the place that I have prepared.
21 Respecte-le, écoute sa voix, et ne pense pas à le mépriser, parce qu’il ne te pardonnera point, lorsque tu pécheras, et que mon nom est en lui.
Take notice of him, and hear his voice, and do not think him one to be contemned: for he will not forgive when thou hast sinned, and my name is in him.
22 Que si tu écoutes sa voix, et que tu fasses tout ce que je te dis, je serai un ennemi pour ton ennemi, et j’affligerai ceux qui t’affligeront.
But if thou wilt hear his voice, and do all that I speak, I will be an enemy to thy enemies, and will afflict them that afflict thee.
23 Et mon ange te précédera, et il t’introduira chez l’Amorrhéen, l’Héthéen, le Phérézéen, le Chananéen, l’Hévéen et le Jébuséen, que j’écraserai.
And my angel shall go before thee, and shall bring thee in unto the Amorrhite, and the Hethite, and the Pherezite, and the Chanaanite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite, whom I will destroy.
24 Tu n’adoreras point leurs dieux et tu ne les serviras pas; tu ne feras point leurs œuvres, mais tu les détruiras et tu briseras leurs statues.
Thou shalt not adore their gods, nor serve them. Thou shalt not do their works, but shalt destroy them, and break their statues.
25 Vous servirez le Seigneur votre Dieu, afin que je bénisse tes pains et tes eaux, et que j’enlève la maladie du milieu de toi.
And you shall serve the Lord your God, that I may bless your bread and your waters, and may take away sickness from the midst of thee.
26 Il n’y aura ni femme inféconde, ni stérile dans ta terre: je remplirai le nombre de tes jours.
There shall not be one fruitless nor barren in thy land: I will fill the number of thy days.
27 J’enverrai ma terreur en avant de toi, et je ferai mourir tout peuple chez lequel tu entreras, et je ferai tourner le dos à tous tes ennemis devant toi;
I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come: and will turn the backs of all thy enemies before thee.
28 Envoyant d’abord les frelons, qui mettront en fuite l’Hévéen, le Chananéen et l’Héthéen, avant que tu entres.
Sending out hornets before, that shall drive away the Hevite, and the Chanaanite, and the Hethite, before thou come in.
29 Je ne les chasserai pas de devant ta face en une seule année, de peur que la terre ne soit réduite en solitude, et que les bêtes sauvages ne se multiplient contre toi.
I will not cast them out from thy face in one year: lest the land be brought into a wilderness, and the beasts multiply against thee.
30 C’est peu à peu que je les chasserai de ta présence, jusqu’à ce que tu croisses en nombre et que tu possèdes cette terre.
By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, till thou be increased, and dost possess the land.
31 Je poserai tes limites depuis la mer Rouge jusqu’à la mer des Philistins, et depuis le désert jusqu’au fleuve: je livrerai entre vos mains les habitants de cette terre, et les chasserai de votre présence.
And I will set thy bounds from the Red Sea to the sea of the Palestines, and from the desert to the river: I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hands, and will drive them out from before you.
32 Tu ne feras point d’alliance avec eux, ni avec leurs dieux.
Thou shalt not enter into league with them, nor with their gods.
33 Qu’ils n’habitent point dans ta terre, de peur qu’ils ne le fassent pécher contre moi, si tu sers leurs dieux; ce qui certainement serait pour toi un scandale.
Let them not dwell in thy land, lest perhaps thy make thee sin against me, if thou serve their god: which undoubtedly will be a scandal to thee.
