Exode 10
1 Et le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Entre auprès de Pharaon; car c’est moi qui ai endurci son cœur et celui de ses serviteurs, afin que je fasse sur lui ces signes de ma puissance,
And the Lord said to Moses, Go in to Pharaoh: for I have made his heart and the hearts of his servants hard, so that I may let my signs be seen among them:
2 Et que tu racontes aux oreilles de ton fils et de tes neveux, combien de fois j’ai brisé les Egyptiens et j’ai fait mes signes au milieu d’eux, et que vous sachiez que je suis le Seigneur.
And so that you may be able to give to your son and to your son's son the story of my wonders in Egypt, and the signs which I have done among them; so that you may see that I am the Lord.
3 Moïse et Aaron entrèrent donc auprès de Pharaon, et lui dirent: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu des Hébreux: Jusqu’à quand ne voudras-tu pas te soumettre à moi? Laisse aller mon peuple, afin qu’il me sacrifie.
Then Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you be lifted up in your pride before me? let my people go so that they may give me worship.
4 Que si tu résistes encore, et si tu ne veux pas le laisser aller, voilà que moi, je ferai venir demain des sauterelles dans tes confins;
For if you will not let my people go, tomorrow I will send locusts into your land:
5 Pour qu’elles couvrent la surface de la terre; en sorte qu’il n’en paraisse rien; mais que ce qui sera resté après la grêle, soit mangé; car elles rongeront tous les arbres qui poussent dans les champs.
And the face of the earth will be covered with them, so that you will not be able to see the earth: and they will be the destruction of everything which up to now has not been damaged, everything which was not crushed by the ice-storm, and every tree still living in your fields.
6 Et elles rempliront tes maisons, et celles de tes serviteurs et de tous les Egyptiens; ni tes pères, ni tes aïeux n’en ont vu autant depuis qu’ils sont nés sur la terre, jusqu’au présent jour. Et il se retira, et il sortit d’avec Pharaon.
And your houses will be full of them, and the houses of your servants and of all the Egyptians; it will be worse than anything your fathers have seen or their fathers, from the day when they were living on the earth till this day. And so he went out from Pharaoh.
7 Mais les serviteurs de Pharaon lui dirent: Jusqu’à quand souffrirons-nous ce scandale? Laissez aller ces hommes, afin qu’ils sacrifient au Seigneur leur Dieu: ne voyez-vous pas que l’Egypte est perdue?
And Pharaoh's servants said to him, How long is this man to be the cause of evil to us? let the men go so that they may give worship to the Lord their God: are you not awake to Egypt's danger?
8 Ils rappelèrent donc Moïse et Aaron auprès de Pharaon, qui leur dit: Allez, sacrifiez au Seigneur votre Dieu: qui sont ceux qui doivent y aller?
Then Moses and Aaron came in again before Pharaoh: and he said to them, Go and give worship to the Lord your God: but which of you are going?
9 Moïse répondit: Nous irons avec nos petits enfants et nos vieillards, avec nos fils et nos filles, avec nos brebis et notre gros bétail; car c’est une solennité du Seigneur notre Dieu.
And Moses said, We will go with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds; for we are to keep a feast to the Lord.
10 Et Pharaon repartit: Que le Seigneur soit avec vous de la même manière que moi, je vous laisserai aller, vous et vos petits enfants: qui doute que vous ne formiez de très mauvais desseins?
And he said to them, May the Lord be with you, if I will let you and your little ones go! take care, for your purpose clearly is evil.
11 Non, il n’en sera pas ainsi; mais allez, vous autres hommes seulement, et sacrifiez au Seigneur; car c’est ce que vous-mêmes avez demandé. Et aussitôt ils furent renvoyés de la présence de Pharaon.
Not so; but let your males go and give worship to the Lord, as your desire is. This he said, driving them out from before him.
12 Mais le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Etends ta main sur la terre d’Egypte vers les sauterelles, afin qu’elles montent sur la terre, et qu’elles dévorent toute l’herbe qui est restée après la grêle.
And the Lord said to Moses, Let your hand be stretched out over the land of Egypt so that the locusts may come up on the land for the destruction of every green plant in the land, even everything untouched by the ice-storm.
13 Et Moïse étendit sa verge sur la terre d’Egypte, et le Seigneur fit venir un vent brûlant, qui souffla tout ce jour-là et toute la nuit; et, le matin venu, le vent brûlant fit lever les sauterelles;
And Moses' rod was stretched out over the land of Egypt, and the Lord sent an east wind over the land all that day and all the night; and in the morning the locusts came up with the east wind.
14 Qui montèrent sur toute la terre d’Egypte; et elles s’arrêtèrent dans tous les confins des Egyptiens en nombre infini, telles qu’avant ce temps-là il n’y en avait pas eu, et qu’à l’avenir il ne doit pas y en avoir
And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, resting on every part of the land, in very great numbers; such an army of locusts had never been seen before, and never will be again.
15 Ainsi, elles couvrirent la surface entière de la terre, ravageant tout. Toute l’herbe de la terre fut donc dévorée, et tout ce qui se trouva de fruits sur les arbres, fruits que la grêle avait laissés; de sorte qu’il ne resta absolument rien de vert sur les arbres ni dans les herbes de la terre, dans toute l’Egypte.
For all the face of the earth was covered with them, so that the land was black; and every green plant and all the fruit of the trees which was untouched by the ice-storm they took for food: not one green thing, no plant or tree, was to be seen in all the land of Egypt.
16 C’est pourquoi Pharaon se hâtant appela Moïse et Aaron, et leur dit: J’ai péché contre le Seigneur votre Dieu, et contre vous.
Then Pharaoh quickly sent for Moses and Aaron, and said, I have done evil against the Lord your God and against you.
17 Mais maintenant pardonnez-moi mon péché encore cette fois, et priez le Seigneur votre Dieu, afin qu’il retire de moi cette mort.
Let me now have forgiveness for my sin this time only, and make prayer to the Lord your God that he will take away from me this death only.
18 Moïse donc, sorti de la présence de Pharaon, pria le Seigneur,
So he went out from Pharaoh and made prayer to the Lord.
19 Qui fit souffler de l’occident un vent très violent, qui, ayant enlevé les sauterelles, les jeta dans la mer Rouge; il n’en demeura pas même une seule dans tous les confins de l’Egypte.
And the Lord sent a very strong west wind, which took up the locusts, driving them into the Red Sea; not one locust was to be seen in any part of Egypt.
20 Mais le Seigneur endurcit le cœur de Pharaon, et il ne laissa pas aller les enfants d’Israël.
But the Lord made Pharaoh's heart hard, and he did not let the children of Israel go.
21 Alors le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Etends ta main vers le ciel, et qu’il y ait sur la terre d’Egypte des ténèbres si épaisses, qu’on puisse les toucher.
And the Lord said to Moses, Let your hand be stretched out to heaven, and all the land of Egypt will be dark, so that men will be feeling their way about in the dark.
22 Et Moïse étendit sa main vers le ciel, et il se forma des ténèbres horribles sur l’Egypte entière pendant trois jours.
And when Moses' hand was stretched out, dark night came over all the land of Egypt for three days;
23 Personne ne vit son frère, ni ne se remua du lieu où il était: mais la lumière était partout où habitaient les enfants d’Israël.
They were not able to see one another, and no one got up from his place for three days: but where the children of Israel were living it was light.
24 Alors Pharaon appela Moïse et Aaron et leur dit: Allez, sacrifiez au Seigneur: que vos brebis seulement et votre gros bétail demeurent, et que vos petits enfants aillent avec vous.
Then Pharaoh sent for Moses, and said, Go and give worship to the Lord; only let your flocks and your herds be kept here: your little ones may go with you.
25 Moïse répondit: Tu nous donneras aussi des hosties et des holocaustes que nous puissions offrir au Seigneur notre Dieu.
But Moses said, You will have to let us take burned offerings to put before the Lord our God.
26 Tous nos troupeaux iront avec nous, et il ne demeurera pas une corne de leurs pieds; c’est nécessaire pour le culte du Seigneur notre Dieu; d’autant plus que nous ignorons ce qui doit être immolé, jusqu’à ce que nous parvenions au lieu même.
So our cattle will have to go with us, not one may be kept back; for they are needed for the worship of the Lord our God; we have no knowledge what offering we have to give till we come to the place.
27 Mais le Seigneur endurcit le cœur de Pharaon, et il ne voulut pas les laisser aller.
But the Lord made Pharaoh's heart hard, and he would not let them go.
28 Et Pharaon dit à Moïse: Retire-toi de moi, et garde-toi de voir désormais ma face: car en quelque jour que ce soit que tu paraisses de vaut moi, tu mourras.
And Pharaoh said to him, Go away from me, take care that you come not again before me; for the day when you see my face again will be your last.
29 Moïse répondit: Il sera fait ainsi que tu las dit, je ne verrai plus ta face.
And Moses said, You say truly; I will not see your face again.
