Esther 7
1 Le roi entra donc, et Aman, pour boire avec la reine.
And the king cometh in, and Haman, to drink with Esther the queen,
2 Et le roi dit encore ce second jour, après qu’il eut été échauffé par le vin: Quelle est votre demande, Esther, afin qu’elle vous soit accordée? et que voulez-vous que l’on fasse? Quand vous me demanderiez la moitié de mon royaume, vous l’obtiendriez.
and the king saith to Esther also on the second day, during the banquet of wine, 'What [is] thy petition, Esther, O queen? and it is given to thee; and what thy request? unto the half of the kingdom — and it is done.'
3 Esther lui répondit: Si j’ai trouvé grâce à vos yeux, ô roi, et s’il vous plaît, accordez-moi ma propre vie pour laquelle je vous prie, et mon peuple pour lequel je vous implore.
And Esther the queen answereth and saith, 'If I have found grace in thine eyes, O king, and if to the king [it be] good, let my life be given to me at my petition, and my people at my request;
4 Car nous avons été livrés, moi et mon peuple, pour que nous soyons foulés aux pieds, égorgés, et que nous périssions. Et plût à Dieu qu’on nous vendît comme serviteurs et servantes; ce serait un mal supportable, et, gémissant, je me tairais; mais maintenant, nous avons un ennemi dont la cruauté retombe sur le roi.
for we have been sold, I and my people, to cut off, to slay, and to destroy; and if for men-servants and for maid-servants we had been sold I had kept silent — but the adversity is not equal to the loss of the king.'
5 Or le roi Assuérus, répondant, dit: Qui est celui-là? et quel est son pouvoir, pour qu’il ose faire ces choses?
And the king Ahasuerus saith, yea, he saith to Esther the queen, 'Who [is] he — this one? and where [is] this one? — he whose heart hath filled him to do so?'
6 Alors Esther dit: Notre ennemi et notre adversaire est ce très méchant Aman. Ce que celui-ci entendant, il resta sur le champ tout interdit, ne supportant pas les regards du roi et de la reine.
And Esther saith, 'The man — adversary and enemy — [is] this wicked Haman;' and Haman hath been afraid at the presence of the king and of the queen.
7 Or le roi, irrité, se leva, et, sortant du lieu du festin, il entra dans un lieu planté d’arbres. Aman aussi se leva, afin de prier la reine Esther pour sa vie, parce qu’il avait compris que le malheur lui était préparé par le roi.
And the king hath risen, in his fury, from the banquet of wine, unto the garden of the house, and Haman hath remained to seek for his life from Esther the queen, for he hath seen that evil hath been determined against him by the king.
8 Lorsqu’Assuérus fut revenu du jardin planté d’arbres et qu’il fut entré dans le lieu du festin, il trouva qu’Aman s’était jeté sur le lit où était Esther, et il dit: Même à la reine il ose faire violence, moi présent, dans ma maison? Cette parole n’était pas encore sortie de la bouche du roi, qu’on couvrit aussitôt le visage d’Aman.
And the king hath turned back out of the garden of the house unto the house of the banquet of wine, and Haman is falling on the couch on which Esther [is], and the king saith, 'Also to subdue the queen with me in the house?' the word hath gone out from the mouth of the king, and the face of Haman they have covered.
9 Alors Harbona, l’un des eunuques qui étaient au service du roi, dit: Voilà que le bois qu’il avait préparé à Mardochée, qui a parlé dans l’intérêt du roi, est dans la maison d’Aman; il a de hauteur cinquante coudées. Le roi lui dit: Pendez-le à ce bois.
And Harbonah, one of the eunuchs, saith before the king, 'Also lo, the tree that Haman made for Mordecai, who spake good for the king, is standing in the house of Haman, in height fifty cubits;' and the king saith, 'Hang him upon it.'
10 Aman fut donc pendu à la potence qu’il avait préparée à Mardochée, et la colère du roi s’apaisa.
And they hang Haman upon the tree that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the fury of the king hath lain down.
