Esther 5
1 Or, le troisième jour, Esther se revêtit de vêtements royaux et se présenta dans le vestibule de la maison du roi, lequel était intérieur, contre la chambre du roi: or il était assis sur son trône, dans la chambre du conseil du palais, contre la porte de la maison.
And it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and placed herself in the inner court of the king's house, opposite the king's apartment; and the king was sitting upon his royal throne in the royal apartment, opposite to the entrance of the house.
2 Et lorsqu’il vit la reine Esther devant lui, elle plut à ses yeux, et il étendit vers elle le sceptre d’or qu’il avait à la main. Esther, s’approchant, baisa le bout de son sceptre.
And it happened, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained grace in his eyes; and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand; and Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.
3 Et le roi lui dit: Que voulez-vous, reine Esther? Quelle est votre demande? Quand vous me demanderiez la moitié de mon royaume, elle vous serait donnée.
Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? if it be equal to half of the kingdom it shall still be given thee.
4 Mais elle répondit: S’il plaît au roi, je vous conjure de venir, et Aman avec vous, au festin que j’ai préparé.
And Esther said, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet which I have prepared for him.
5 Et aussitôt le roi: Appelez vite Aman, dit-il, afin qu’il obéisse à la volonté d’Esther. C’est pourquoi le roi et Aman vinrent au festin que la reine leur avait préparé.
Then said the king, Bring Haman quickly hither to fulfill the word of Esther: so came the king with Haman to the banquet which Esther had prepared.
6 Or le roi lui dit, après qu’il eut bu abondamment: Que désirez-vous que je vous donne, et que demandez-vous? Quand vous me demanderiez la moitié de mon royaume, vous l’obtiendriez.
And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even if it be equal to half of the kingdom, it shall still be done.
7 Esther lui répondit: Voici ma demande et mes prières:
Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request are,
8 Si j’ai trouvé grâce en présence du roi, et s’il plaît au roi de me donner ce que je demande, et de remplir mon désir, que le roi vienne et Aman au festin que je leur ai préparé, et demain je découvrirai ma volonté au roi.
If I have found grace in the eyes of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to fulfill my request, that the king may come with Haman to the banquet which I will prepare for them, and tomorrow will I do according to the word of the king.
9 Aman sortit donc, ce jour-là, joyeux et dispos. Mais, lorsqu’il eut vu Mardochée assis devant la porte du palais, et que non seulement il ne s’était pas levé pour lui, mais qu’une s’était pas même remué de la place où il était assis, il fut fort indigné;
And Haman went forth on that day joyful and with a glad heart; but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, who did not rise up, nor move out of the way for him, then was Haman filled against Mordecai with fury.
10 Et dissimulant sa colère, il retourna à sa maison, et réunit auprès de lui ses amis et Zarès, sa femme.
Nevertheless Haman refrained himself, and went to his house: he then sent and had his friends brought in with Zeresh his wife.
11 Or il leur exposa la grandeur de ses richesses, le grand nombre de ses enfants, et à quelle grande gloire le roi l’avait élevé au-dessus de tous les grands de la cour et de ses serviteurs.
And Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had made him great, and how he had advanced him above the princes and the servants of the king.
12 Et après cela il dit: La reine Esther aussi n’a appelé nul autre au festin avec le roi, hors moi: et c’est chez elle qu’encore demain je dois dîner avec le roi.
And Haman said [farther], Yea, Esther the queen did not let any one come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself: and also for tomorrow am I invited unto her with the king.
13 Et quoique j’aie tous ces avantages, je crois que je n’ai rien, tant que je verrai Mardochée, le Juif, assis devant la porte du roi.
Yet all this profiteth me nothing, every time that I see Mordecai the Jew sitting in the king's gate.
14 Or Zarès, sa femme, et tous les autres, ses amis, lui dirent: Commande qu’on prépare une potence fort élevée, ayant cinquante coudées de hauteur, et dis dès le matin au roi qu’on y suspende Mardochée, et c’est ainsi que, joyeux, tu iras avec le roi au festin. Ce conseil lui plut, et il commanda qu’on préparât une croix fort élevée.
Then said unto him Zeresh his wife with all his friends, Let them make a gallows of fifty cubits high, and in the mourning speak unto the king that they may hang Mordecai thereon; and then go thou in with the king unto the banquet joyfully. And the thing pleased Haman; and he had the gallows made.
