Esther 2
1 Ces choses s’étant ainsi passées, après que l’indignation du roi Assuérus se fut calmée, il se souvint de Vasthi, et de ce qu’elle avait fait, et de ce qu’elle avait souffert.
After the things these when subsided [the] anger of the king Ahasuerus he remembered Vashti and [that] which she had done and [that] which it had been decreed on her.
2 Alors les serviteurs du roi et ses ministres dirent: Qu’on cherche pour le roi de jeunes filles vierges et belles,
And they said [the] young men of the king [who were] serving him let people seek for the king young women virgins good of appearance.
3 Et qu’on envoie des gens qui considèrent dans toutes les provinces les jeunes filles vierges et belles, et qu’ils les amènent à la ville de Suse, et les mettent dans la maison des femmes, sous la main d’Egée, l’eunuque, qui est le préposé et le gardien des femmes du roi, et qu’elles prennent une parure de femme, et toutes les autres choses nécessaires à leur usage.
And let him appoint the king appointees in all [the] provinces of kingdom his and let them gather every girl virgin good of appearance to Susa the citadel to [the] house of the women into [the] hand of Hegai [the] eunuch of the king [the] keeper of the women and let him give rubbings their.
4 Et celle qui entre toutes plaira aux yeux du roi, celle-là régnera à la place de Vasthi. Ce discours plut au roi, et il ordonna qu’on fît comme ils avaient conseillé.
And the young woman who she will be good in [the] eyes of the king she will reign in place of Vashti and it was good the word in [the] eyes of the king and he did thus.
5 Il y avait dans la ville de Suse un homme juif, du nom de Mardochée, fils de Jaïr, fils de Séméi, fils de Cis, de la race de Jémini,
A man Jewish he was in Susa the citadel and name his [was] Mordecai [the] son of Jair [the] son of Shimei [the] son of Kish a man a Jaminite.
6 Lequel avait été transféré de Jérusalem dans le temps que Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, y avait transféré Jéchonias, roi de Juda.
Who he had been taken into exile from Jerusalem with the exile[s] which it had been taken into exile with Jeconiah [the] king of Judah whom he had taken into exile Nebuchadnezzar [the] king of Babylon.
7 Il élevait la fille de son frère, Edissa, qui s’appelait d’un autre nom Esther; et elle avait perdu son père et sa mère; elle était très belle et d’un visage gracieux. Son père et sa mère morts, Mardochée l’adopta pour sa fille.
And he was raising Hadassah that [is] Esther [the] daughter of uncle his for not [belonged] to her a father and a mother and the young woman [was] beautiful of shape and good of appearance and at [the] death of father her and mother her he took her Mordecai of him to a daughter.
8 Lors donc que l’ordre du roi eut été répandu, et que, selon son commandement, beaucoup de vierges belles étaient amenées à Suse et confiées à Egée l’eunuque, Esther aussi lui fut confiée entre toutes les autres, pour qu’elle fût conservée au nombre des femmes.
And it was when were heard [the] edict of the king and orders his and when were gathered young women many to Susa the citadel into [the] hand of Hegai and she was taken Esther to [the] house of the king into [the] hand of Hegai [the] keeper of the women.
9 Elle lui plut, et elle trouva grâce en sa présence, et il commanda à un autre eunuque de préparer aussitôt une parure de femme, de lui donner ses portions et sept filles très belles de la maison du roi, de la parer et de l’embellir, tant elle-même que ses suivantes.
And she was good the young woman in view his and she bore favor before him and he hastened rubbings her and portions her to give to her and [the] seven the servant girls chosen to give to her from [the] house of the king and he moved her and servant girls her to [the] good [place] of [the] house of the women.
10 Esther ne voulut pas lui indiquer son peuple et sa patrie, parce que Mardochée lui avait ordonné de garder entièrement le silence sur cela.
Not she had told Esther people her and kindred her for Mordecai he had commanded to her that not she will tell.
11 Et il se promenait tous les jours devant le vestibule de la maison dans laquelle les vierges choisies étaient gardées, s’inquiétant du salut d’Esther, et voulant savoir ce qui lui arriverait.
And on every day and day Mordecai [was] walking back and forth to front of [the] court of [the] house of the women to know [the] welfare of Esther and what? was it done with her.
12 Or, lorsqu’était venu le temps de chacune des filles d’entrer selon son rang auprès du roi, et que tout ce qui concernait la parure était achevé, le douzième mois avait fait sa révolution: en sorte que pendant six mois elles s’oignaient d’huile de myrrhe, et pendant six autres mois, elles faisaient usage de parfums et d’aromates.
And when arrived [the] turn of a young woman and a young woman to go - to the king Ahasuerus from [the] end to be for her according to [the] regulation of the women two [plus] ten month[s] for thus they were completed [the] days of rubbings their six months with [the] oil of myrrh and six months with balsam oil and with [the] rubbings of women.
13 Et lorsqu’elles devaient entrer auprès du roi, tout ce qu’elles demandaient concernant la parure, elles le recevaient, et parées à leur gré, elles passaient de la salle à manger des femmes dans la chambre du roi.
And in this [way] the young woman [was] going into the king all that she said it was given to her to go with her from [the] house of the women to [the] house of the king.
14 Or celle qui était entrée le soir sortait le matin, et de là elle était conduite dans un autre appartement qui était sous la main de Susagazi, eunuque, lequel avait la garde des femmes du second rang; et elle n’avait pas le pouvoir de revenir encore auprès du roi, à moins que le roi ne le voulût, et n’eût commandé qu’elle vînt, en l’appelant par son nom.
In the evening - she [was] going and in the morning she [was] returning to [the] house of the women second in [the] hand of Shaashgaz [the] eunuch of the king [the] keeper of the concubines not she went again into the king that except he delighted in her the king and she was summoned by name.
15 Or, quelque temps s’étant écoulé, le jour approchait où, selon son rang, Esther, fille d’Abihaïl, frère de Mardochée, que Mardochée avait adoptée pour sa fille, devait entrer auprès du roi. Elle ne demanda pas d’ornement extraordinaire de femme; mais Egée, l’eunuque, gardien des vierges, lui donna tout ce qu’il voulut pour sa parure: car elle était très bien faite, et d’une incroyable beauté; et elle paraissait gracieuse et aimable aux yeux de tous.
And when arrived [the] turn of Esther [the] daughter of Abihail [the] uncle of Mordecai whom he had taken of him to a daughter to go to the king not she requested anything that except [that] which he said Hegai [the] eunuch of the king [the] keeper of the women and she was Esther bearing favor in [the] eyes of all [those who] saw her.
16 Elle fut donc amenée dans la chambre du roi Assuérus, au dixième mois, qui est appelé Tébeth, la septième année de son règne.
And she was taken Esther to the king Ahasuerus into [the] house of royalty his in the month tenth that [is] [the] month of Tebeth in year seven of reign his.
17 Or le roi l’aima plus que toutes les autres femmes, et elle trouva grâce et bienveillance devant lui au-dessus de toutes les femmes, et il mit le diadème royal sur sa tête, et la fit régner à la place de Vasthi.
And he loved the king Esther more than all the women and she bore favor and favor before him more than all the virgins and he put a crown of royalty on head her and he made queen her in place of Vashti.
18 Et il commanda qu’on préparât un festin très magnifique à tous les princes et à tous ses serviteurs pour le mariage et les noces d’Esther. Il donna aussi du repos aux peuples de ses provinces, et il fit des largesses avec la magnificence d’un prince.
And he made the king a feast great for all officials his and servants his [the] feast of Esther and a holiday for the provinces he made and he gave tribute according to [the] hand of the king.
19 Et lorsque, pour la seconde fois, on cherchait des vierges, et qu’on les rassemblait, Mardochée demeurait à la porte du roi.
And when were gathered virgins a second [time] and Mordecai [was] sitting at [the] gate of the king.
20 Esther n’avait point fait encore connaître sa patrie et son peuple, selon l’ordre de Mardochée; car tout ce qu’il commandait, Esther l’observait, et elle faisait toutes choses comme elle avait coutume lorsqu’il l’élevait petite enfant.
Not Esther [was] telling kindred her and people her just as he had commanded to her Mordecai and [the] command of Mordecai Esther [was] doing just as she had done in guardianship with him.
21 Dans le temps donc que Mardochée demeurait à la porte du roi, Bagathan et Tharès, deux eunuques du roi qui étaient portiers, et gardaient la première entrée du palais, furent irrités, et voulurent s’insurger contre le roi et le tuer.
In the days those and Mordecai [was] sitting at [the] gate of the king he was angry Bigthan and Teresh two of [the] eunuchs of the king from [the] guards of the threshold and they sought to stretch out a hand on the king Ahasuerus.
22 Cela ne fut pas ignoré de Mardochée, qui l’annonça aussitôt à la reine Esther, et celle-ci au roi, au nom de Mardochée, qui lui avait déféré la chose.
And it was made known the matter to Mordecai and he told to Esther the queen and she spoke Esther to the king in [the] name of Mordecai.
23 On chercha et on découvrit le complot, et l’un et l’autre furent pendus à une potence. Or cela fut écrit dans les histoires et inséré dans les annales devant le roi.
And it was sought the matter and it was found and they were hanged [the] two of them on a gallows and it was written in [the] book of [the] matters of the days before the king.
