Éphésiens 5
1 Soyez donc les imitateurs de Dieu, comme enfants bien-aimés;
Become ye, therefore, imitators of God, as children beloved,
2 Et marchez dans l’amour, comme le Christ nous a aimés et s’est livré lui-même pour nous en oblation à Dieu, et en hostie de suave odeur.
And walk in love—even as, the Christ also, loved you, and delivered himself up in your behalf, an offering and sacrifice unto God, for a fragrance of sweet smell.
3 Que la fornication et toute impureté, ou l’avarice ne soit pas même nommée parmi vous, comme il convient à des saints.
But, fornication, and all impurity, or covetousness, let it not be named among you—even as becometh saints;
4 Point de turpitudes, de folles paroles, de bouffonneries, ce qui ne convient point; mais plutôt des actions de grâces.
And shamelessness and foolish talking, or jesting, —which things are beneath you, —but, rather, giving of thanks;
5 Car sachez comprendre qu’aucun fornicateur, ou impudique, ou avare, ce qui est une idolâtrie, n’a d’héritage dans le royaume du Christ et de Dieu.
For, this, ye know, if ye take note—that no fornicator, or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God.
6 Que personne ne vous séduise par de vains discours, car c’est pour ces choses que vient la colère de Dieu sur les fils de la défiance.
Let no one be deceiving you with empty words; for, because of these things, is coming the anger of God upon the sons of obstinacy:
7 N’ayez donc point de commerce avec eux.
Do not, then, become co-partners with them;
8 Car autrefois vous étiez ténèbres, mais maintenant vous êtes lumière dans le Seigneur. Marchez comme des enfants de la lumière
For ye were, at one time, darkness, but, now, are ye light in the Lord, —as children of light, be walking,
9 (Or le fruit de la lumière consiste en toute bonté, justice et vérité),
For, the fruit of the light, is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth, —
10 Examinant ce qui est agréable à Dieu.
Putting to the test what is well-pleasing unto the Lord;
11 Ne vous associez point aux œuvres infructueuses des ténèbres, mais plutôt réprouvez-les;
And be not joining in fellowship in the unfruitful works of darkness, but, rather, be even administering reproof;
12 Car ce qu’ils font en secret est honteux même à dire.
For, of the secret things which are brought to pass by them, it is, shameful, even to speak!
13 Or tout ce qui est répréhensible se découvre par la lumière; car tout ce qui se découvre est lumière.
All things, however, when reproved by the light, become manifest, for, all that of itself maketh manifest, is, light;
14 C’est pourquoi l’Ecriture dit: Lève-toi, toi qui dors; lève-toi d’entre les morts, et le Christ t’illuminera.
Wherefore it saith—Up! thou sleeper, and arise from among the dead, and the Christ will shine upon thee.
15 Ayez donc soin, mes frères, de marcher avec circonspection, non comme des insensés,
Be taking heed, therefore, exactly how ye are walking, —not as unwise, but as wise, —
16 Mais comme des hommes sages, rachetant le temps, parce que les jours sont mauvais.
Buying out for yourselves the opportunity, because, the days, are evil;
17 Ne soyez donc pas imprudents, mais comprenez quelle est la volonté de Dieu;
For this cause, do not become foolish, but have discernment as to what is the will of the Lord;
18 Et ne vous enivrez pas de vin qui renferme la luxure; mais soyez remplis de l’Esprit-Saint;
And be not getting drunk with wine, in which is dissoluteness, but be getting filled in Spirit; —
19 Vous entretenant entre vous de psaumes, d’hymnes et de cantiques spirituels, chantant et psalmodiant du fond de vos cœurs à la gloire du Seigneur;
Speaking to yourselves, with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs; singing, and striking the strings, with your heart unto the Lord;
20 Rendant grâces toujours et pour toutes choses, au nom de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, à Dieu et Père;
Giving thanks, always, for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, unto your God and Father;
21 Soumis les uns aux autres dans la crainte du Christ.
Submitting yourselves one to another in reverence of Christ, —
22 Que les femmes soient soumises à leurs maris comme au Seigneur;
Ye wives, unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord,
23 Parce que l’homme est le chef de la femme, comme le Christ est le chef de l’Eglise, et il est aussi le Sauveur de son corps.
Because, a husband, is the head of his wife, as, the Christ also, is the head of the assembly, he, being the saviour of the body, —
24 Comme donc l’Eglise est soumise au Christ, ainsi le soient en toutes choses les femmes à leurs maris.
Nevertheless, as, the assembly, submitteth herself unto the Christ, so, the wives, unto their husbands, in everything:
25 Maris, aimez vos femmes, comme le Christ a aimé l’Église, et s’est livré lui-même pour elle,
Ye husbands, be loving your wives, even as, the Christ also, loved the assembly, and delivered, himself, up in her behalf,
26 Afin de la sanctifier, la purifiant par le baptême d’eau, par la parole de vie,
That, her, he might sanctify, having purified [her] with the bath of water, in declaration,
27 Pour la faire paraître devant lui une Eglise glorieuse, n’ayant ni tache, ni ride, ni rien de semblable, mais pour qu’elle soit sainte et immaculée.
That, he, might present, unto himself, the assembly, all glorious, not having spot or wrinkle or any of such things, but that she should be holy and blameless;
28 Ainsi les maris doivent aimer leurs femmes comme leur propre corps. Celui qui aime sa femme, s’aime lui-même.
So, ought the husbands [also] to be loving their own wives, as their own bodies, —he that loveth his own wife, loveth himself,
29 Car personne n’a jamais haï sa chair, mais il la nourrit et la soigne, comme le Christ l’Eglise;
No one, in fact, ever yet hated, his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, —even as, the Christ, the assembly,
30 Parce que nous sommes les membres de son corps, formés de sa chair et de ses os.
Because, members, are we of his body; —
31 À cause de cela l’homme laissera son père et sa mère, et s’attachera à sa femme; et ils seront deux dans une seule chair.;
For this cause, will a man leave his father and his mother, and will cleave unto his wife, and, they two, shall become, one flesh.
32 Ce sacrement est grand, je dis dans le Christ et dans l’Eglise.
This sacred secret, is, great, —I, however, am speaking as to Christ and [as to] the assembly; —
33 Que chacun de vous donc aime sa femme comme lui-même; mais que la femme craigne son mari.
Nevertheless, ye also, do ye, individually, each man be so loving, his own wife, as himself, and, the wife, [see] that she reverence her husband.
