Ecclésiaste 3
1 Toutes choses ont leur temps, et dans leurs limites elles passent toutes sous le ciel.
All things have their season, and in their times all things pass under heaven.
2 Il est un temps de naître et un temps de mourir; Un temps de planter, et un temps d’arracher ce qui a été planté;
A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.
3 Un temps de tuer, et un temps de guérir; Un temps d’abattre, et un temps de bâtir;
A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to destroy, and a time to build.
4 Un temps de pleurer, et un temps de rire; Un temps de gémir, et un temps de sauter de joie;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.
5 Un temps de disperser les pierres, et un temps de les rassembler; Un temps d’embrasser, et un temps de s’éloigner des embrassements;
A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather. A time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.
6 Un temps d’acquérir, et un temps de perdre; Un temps de garder, et un temps de rejeter;
A time to get, and a time to lose. A time to keep, and a time to cast away.
7 Un temps de déchirer, et un temps de coudre; Un temps de se taire, et un temps de parler;
A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to keep silence, and a time to speak.
8 Un temps d’amour, et un temps de haine; Un temps de guerre, et un temps de paix;
A time of love, and a time of hatred. A time of war, and a time of peace.
9 Quel avantage a l’homme de son travail?
What hath man more of his labour?
10 J’ai vu l’affliction qu’a donnée Dieu aux fils des hommes, pour qu’ils en soient tourmentés.
I have seen the trouble, which God hath given the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 Il a fait toutes choses bonnes en leur temps, et il a livré le monde à leurs disputes; en sorte que l’homme ne découvre pas l’œuvre que Dieu a opérée depuis le commencement jusqu’à la fin.
He hath made all things good in their time, and hath delivered the world to their consideration, so that man cannot find out the work which God hath made from the beginning to the end.
12 Et j’ai reconnu qu’il n’y avait rien de mieux que de se réjouir et de faire le bien pendant sa vie.
And I have known that there was no better thing than to rejoice, and to do well in this life.
13 Car tout homme qui mange, boit et voit le bien de son travail, c’est un don de Dieu.
For every man that eateth and drinketh, and seeth good of his labour, this is the gift of God.
14 J’ai appris que les œuvres que Dieu a faites persévèrent à perpétuité; nous ne pouvons rien ajouter ni rien retrancher aux choses que Dieu a faites afin qu’il soit craint.
I have learned that all the works which God hath made, continue for ever: we cannot add any thing, nor take away from those things which God hath made that he may be feared.
15 Ce qui a été fait demeure: les choses qui doivent être ont déjà été; et Dieu rétablit ce qui est passé.
That which hath been made, the same continueth: the things that shall be, have already been: and God restoreth that which is past.
16 J’ai vu sous le soleil, dans le lieu du jugement, l’impiété; et, dans le lieu de la justice, l’iniquité.
I saw under the sun in the place of judgment wickedness, and in the place of justice iniquity.
17 Et j’ai dit dans mon cœur: Dieu jugera le juste et l’impie, et ce sera alors le temps de toute chose.
And I said in my heart: God shall judge both the just and the wicked, and then shall be the time of every thing.
18 J’ai dit en mon cœur touchant les fils des hommes: Que Dieu les éprouve, et montre qu’ils sont semblables à des bêtes.
I said in my heart concerning the sons of men, that God would prove them, and shew them to be like beasts.
19 C’est pour cela que le trépas est pour l’homme et pour les bêtes, et qu’égale est leur condition: comme l’homme meurt, ainsi elles meurent; de la même manière elles respirent toutes, et l’homme n’a rien de plus que la bête: toutes choses sont soumises à la vanité:
Therefore the death of man, and of beasts is one, and the condition of them both is equal: as man dieth, so they also die: all things breathe alike, and man hath nothing more than beast: all things are subject to vanity.
20 Toutes choses vont vers un seul lieu: elles ont été faites de la terre, et elles retournent pareillement à la terre.
And all things go to one place: of earth they were made, and into earth they return together.
21 Qui sait si l’esprit des fils d’Adam monte en haut, et si l’esprit des bêtes descend en bas?
Who knoweth if the spirit of the children of Adam ascend upward, and if the spirit of the beasts descend downward?
22 Et j’ai trouvé que rien n’est meilleur pour l’homme que de se réjouir en son œuvre, et que c’est là sa part: car qui l’amènera à connaître les choses qui doivent arriver après lui?
And I have found that nothing is better than for a man to rejoice in his work, and that this is his portion. For who shall bring him to know the things that shall be after him?
