Ecclésiaste 11
1 Répands ton pain sur les eaux qui passent; parce qu’après beaucoup de temps tu le trouveras.
Cast thy bread upon the waters; for after many days thou shalt find it.
2 Donnes-en une part à sept et même à huit; parce que tu ignores ce qui doit arriver de mal sur la terre.
Give a portion to seven, yea, to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 Si les nuées sont pleines, elles répandront la pluie sur la terre. Si l’arbre tombe au midi ou à l’aquilon, en quelque lieu qu’il tombe, il y sera.
When the clouds are full of rain, they empty upon the earth; and when a tree falleth to the south or the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4 Celui qui observe le vent ne sème pas; et celui qui considère les nuées jamais ne moissonnera.
He that watcheth the wind will not sow, and he that gazeth upon the clouds will not reap.
5 Comme tu ignores quelle est la voie de l’âme, et de quelle manière sont liés les os dans le sein d’une femme enceinte; ainsi tu ne sais pas les œuvres de Dieu, qui est le créateur de toutes choses.
As thou knowest not the way of the wind, nor how the bones are formed in the womb of her that is with child, so thou canst not know the work of God, who doeth all things.
6 Dès le matin, sème ton grain, et que, le soir, ta main ne cesse pas; parce que tu ne sais pas lequel lèvera plutôt, celui-ci ou celui-là: et si l’un et l’autre lèvent ensemble, ce sera mieux.
In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thy hand! For thou knowest not whether this shall prosper, or that, or whether both of them shall be alike good.
7 Douce est la lumière; et il est délectable aux yeux de voir le soleil.
Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.
8 Si un homme a vécu un grand nombre d’années, et qu’en tout il se soit réjoui, il doit se souvenir des temps de ténèbres et de ces jours nombreux, qui, lorsqu’ils seront venus, convaincront de vanité tout le passé.
Yea, though a man live many years, let him rejoice in them all, and let him think of the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
9 Réjouis-toi donc jeune homme, en ton adolescence; et qu’heureux soit ton cœur dans les jours de ta jeunesse; marche dans les voies de ton cœur et dans les regards de tes yeux; mais sache que pour toutes ces choses Dieu t’appellera en jugement.
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine eyes! but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10 Bannis la colère de ton cœur, et écarte la malice de ta chair. Car l’adolescence et la volupté sont choses vaines.
Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy body! for childhood and youth are vanity.
