Deutéronome 6
1 Voici les préceptes, les cérémonies et les ordonnances que le Seigneur votre Dieu a prescrites, afin que je vous les enseigne, et que vous les pratiquiez dans la terre dans laquelle vous allez passer pour la posséder,
Now these [are] the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye may do [them] in the land whither ye go to possess it:
2 Afin que tu craignes le Seigneur ton Dieu, et que tu gardes, tous les jours de ta vie, tous ses commandements et ses préceptes que moi, je te prescris, à toi, à tes fils et à tes petits-fils, pour que les jours soient prolongés.
That thou mayst fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life: and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Ecoute, Israël, et aie grand soin de faire ce que t’a ordonné le Seigneur, afin que bien t’arrive, et que tu sois encore multiplié, puisque le Seigneur Dieu de tes pères t’a promis une terre, où coulent du lait et du miel.
Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do [it]; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4 Ecoute, Israël, le Seigneur notre Dieu est l’unique Seigneur.
Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God [is] one LORD:
5 Tu aimeras le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de toute ta force.
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 Et ces paroles que moi, je te prescris aujourd’hui seront dans ton cœur;
And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart:
7 Tu les raconteras aussi à tes enfants, et tu les méditeras, assis en ta maison, et marchant dans le chemin, dormant et te levant.
And thou shalt teach them diligently to thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 De plus, tu les lieras comme un signe dans ta main; elles seront et se mouvront entre tes yeux;
And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes.
9 Et tu les écriras sur le seuil et sur les portes de ta maison.
And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
10 Et lorsque le Seigneur ton Dieu t’aura introduit dans la terre au sujet de laquelle il a juré à tes pères, Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, et qu’il t’aura donné des villes grandes et très bonnes que tu n’as pas bâties,
And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he swore to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build,
11 Des maisons pleines de toutes richesses, et que tu n’as pas construites, des citernes que tu n’as pas creusées, des vignobles et des plants d’oliviers que tu n’as point plantés,
And houses full of all good [things], which thou didst not fill, and wells digged, which thou didst not dig, vineyards and olive-trees, which thou didst not plant; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
12 Et que tu auras mangé et que tu te seras rassasié,
[Then] beware lest thou shouldst forget the LORD, who brought thee forth from the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
13 Prends bien garde d’oublier le Seigneur qui t’a retiré de la terre d’Egypte, de la maison de servitude. Tu craindras le Seigneur ton Dieu, et tu ne serviras que lui, et c’est par son nom que tu jureras.
Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
14 Vous n’irez point après les dieux étrangers de toutes les nations qui sont autour de vous,
Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which [are] around you;
15 Parce qu’un Dieu jaloux, le Seigneur ton Dieu, est au milieu de toi; de peur qu’un jour la fureur du Seigneur ton Dieu ne s’irrite contre toi, et qu’il ne t’enlève de la surface de la terre.
(For the LORD thy God [is] a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God should be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
16 Tu ne tenteras point le Seigneur ton Dieu, comme tu l’as tenté au lieu de la tentation.
Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted [him] in Massah.
17 Garde les préceptes du Seigneur ton Dieu, les lois et les cérémonies qu’il t’a prescrites,
Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
18 Et fais ce qui est agréable et bon en la présence du Seigneur, afin que bien t’arrive, et que tu possèdes, y étant entré, la terre excellente, touchant laquelle le Seigneur a juré à tes pères,
And thou shalt do [that which is] right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD swore to thy fathers,
19 Qu’il détruirait tous tes ennemis devant toi, comme il a dit.
To cast out all thy enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.
20 Et lorsque ton fils t’interrogera demain, disant: Que signifient ces lois, ces cérémonies et ces ordonnances que nous a prescrites le Seigneur notre Dieu?
[And] when thy son shall ask thee in time to come, saying, What [mean] the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?
21 Tu lui diras: Nous étions esclaves de Pharaon en Egypte, et le Seigneur nous a retirés de l’Egypte par une main puissante;
Then thou shalt say to thy son, We were Pharoah's bond-men in Egypt: and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
22 Et il a fait des signes et des prodiges grands et terribles en Egypte contre Pharaon et toute sa maison en notre présence;
And the LORD showed signs and wonders, great and distressing, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
23 Puis, il nous a retirés de là pour nous donner, après nous y avoir introduits, la terre, au sujet de laquelle il a juré à nos pères.
And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore to our fathers.
24 Le Seigneur ensuite a ordonné que nous exécutions toutes ces lois, que nous craignions le Seigneur notre Dieu, afin que bien nous arrive tous les jours de notre vie, comme il en est aujourd’hui.
And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as [it is] at this day.
25 Car il nous sera miséricordieux, si nous gardons et nous pratiquons tous ses préceptes devant le Seigneur notre Dieu, comme il nous a commandé.
And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
