Deutéronome 24
1 Si un homme a pris une femme, et qu’il l’ait eue, et qu’elle n’ait pas trouvé grâce à ses yeux à cause de quelque défaut honteux, il écrira un acte de répudiation; il le mettra dans la main de cette femme, et il la renverra de sa maison.
When a man taketh a wife, and marrieth her, then it shall be, if she find no favor in his eyes, because he hath found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
2 Et lorsque, sortie, elle aura épousé un autre mari,
And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s [wife].
3 Et que celui-ci aussi conçoive de l’aversion pour elle, lui donne un acte de répudiation, et la renvoie de sa maison, ou bien meure,
And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, who took her to be his wife;
4 Le premier mari ne pourra pas la reprendre pour femme, parce quelle a été souillée, et qu’elle est devenue abominable devant le Seigneur: ne fais pas pécher la terre que le Seigneur ton Dieu t’a livrée pour la posséder.
her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before Jehovah: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
5 Lorsqu’un homme aura pris une femme depuis peu, il n’ira point à la guerre, et aucune charge publique ne lui sera imposée, mais il s’occupera sans aucune faute dans sa maison, à se réjouir pendant une année avec sa femme.
When a man taketh a new wife, he shall not go out in the host, neither shall he be charged with any business: he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer his wife whom he hath taken.
6 Tu ne recevras point pour gage la meule de dessous et de dessus; parce que c’est l’âme de celui qui te l’offre.
No man shall take the mill or the upper millstone to pledge; for he taketh [a man’s] life to pledge.
7 Si un homme est surpris embauchant son frère d’entre les enfants d’Israël, et que, celui-ci vendu, il ait reçu le prix, il sera mis à mort, et tu ôteras le mal d’au milieu de toi.
If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and he deal with him as a slave, or sell him; then that thief shall die: so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.
8 Evite soigneusement de contracter la plaie de la lèpre; mais tu feras tout ce que t’enseigneront les prêtres de la race lévitique, selon que je leur ai prescrit, et accomplis-le exactement.
Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do.
9 Souvenez-vous de ce qu’a fait le Seigneur votre Dieu à Marie dans le chemin, lorsque vous sortiez de l’Egypte.
Remember what Jehovah thy God did unto Miriam, by the way as ye came forth out of Egypt.
10 Lorsque tu redemanderas à ton prochain quelque chose, qu’il te doit, tu n’entreras point dans sa maison, pour emporter un gage,
When thou dost lend thy neighbor any manner of loan, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.
11 Mais tu te tiendras dehors, et c’est lui qui t’apportera ce qu’il aura.
Thou shalt stand without, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring forth the pledge without unto thee.
12 Que s’il est pauvre, le gage ne passera pas la nuit chez toi;
And if he be a poor man, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge;
13 Mais tu le lui rendras aussitôt avant le coucher du soleil, afin que dormant dans son vêtement, il te bénisse, et que tu aies pour toi la justice devant le Seigneur ton Dieu.
thou shalt surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his garment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before Jehovah thy God.
14 Tu ne nieras point le salaire de l’indigent et du pauvre, qu’il soit ton frère, ou un étranger qui demeure avec toi dans ta terre et au dedans de tes portes;
Thou shalt not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy sojourners that are in thy land within thy gates:
15 Mais tu lui rendras le jour même le prix de son travail avant le coucher du soleil, parce qu’il est pauvre, et que c’est par là qu’il sustente son âme, afin qu’il ne crie pas contre toi au Seigneur, et qu’il ne te soit pas imputé à péché.
in his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it (for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it); lest he cry against thee unto Jehovah, and it be sin unto thee.
16 Des pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour des enfants, ni des enfants pour des pères; mais chacun mourra pour son péché.
The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
17 Tu ne pervertiras point le jugement d’un étranger et d’un orphelin; et tu n’ôteras point, pour gage, à la veuve son vêtement.
Thou shalt not wrest the justice [due] to the sojourner, [or] to the fatherless, nor take the widow’s raiment to pledge;
18 Souviens-toi que tu as servi en Egypte, et que le Seigneur ton Dieu t’a retiré de là. C’est pourquoi voici ce que je t’ordonne de faire:
but thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and Jehovah thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
19 Quand tu moissonneras les grains dans ton champ, et que par oubli tu auras laissé une gerbe, tu ne retourneras point pour la prendre; mais tu la laisseras emporter par l’étranger, l’orphelin et la veuve, afin que le Seigneur ton Dieu te bénisse dans toutes les œuvres de tes mains.
When thou reapest thy harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow; that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in all the work of thy hands.
20 Si tu recueilles les fruits des oliviers, tu ne retourneras point pour recueillir tout ce qui sera resté sur les arbres; mais tu le laisseras à l’étranger, à l’orphelin et à la veuve.
When thou beatest thine olive-tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
21 Si tu vendanges ta vigne, tu ne recueilleras point les grappes de raisins restantes; mais qu’elles soient laissées pour l’usage de l’étranger, de l’orphelin et de la veuve.
When thou gatherest [the grapes of] thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it after thee: it shall be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
22 Souviens-toi que toi aussi, tu as servi en Egypte, et c’est pour cela que je t’ordonne de faire ces choses.
And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
