Deutéronome 18
1 Les prêtres, les Lévites, et tous ceux qui sont de la même tribu n’auront point de part et d’héritage avec le reste d’Israël, parce qu’ils mangeront des sacrifices du Seigneur et de ses oblations;
The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of Yhwh made by fire, and his inheritance.
2 Et ils ne recevront rien autre chose de la possession de leurs frères; car le Seigneur lui-même est leur héritage, comme il leur a dit.
Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: Yhwh is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.
3 Voici le droit des prêtres sur le peuple, et sur ceux qui offrent les victimes; soit qu’ils immolent un bœuf ou une brebis, ils donneront au prêtre l’épaule et la poitrine;
And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.
4 Les prémices du blé, du vin, de l’huile et une partie de la tonte des brebis;
The firstfruit also of thy grain, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.
5 Car c’est lui que le Seigneur ton Dieu a choisi d’entre toutes les tribus, afin qu’il assiste devant le Seigneur, et qu’il exerce le ministère en son nom, lui et ses enfants pour toujours.
For Yhwh thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of Yhwh, him and his sons for ever.
6 Si un Lévite sort d’une de vos villes de tout Israël, dans laquelle il habite, et qu’il veuille et désire venir au lieu qu’aura choisi le Seigneur,
And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which Yhwh shall choose;
7 Il exercera le ministère au nom du Seigneur son Dieu, comme tous ses frères les Lévites, qui assisteront en ce temps-là devant le Seigneur.
Then he shall minister in the name of Yhwh his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before Yhwh.
8 Il recevra la même part d’aliments que tous les autres, outre ce qu’il lui est dû dans sa ville de la succession paternelle.
They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.
9 Quand tu seras entré dans la terre que le Seigneur ton Dieu te donnera, prends garde de vouloir imiter les abominations de ces nations;
When thou art come into the land which Yhwh thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
10 Et qu’il ne se trouve au milieu de toi personne qui purifie son fils ou sa fille, les faisant passer par le feu, ou qui interroge des devins, et qui observe les songes et les augures, ni qui use de maléfices,
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
11 Ni qui soit enchanteur, ni qui consulte ceux qui ont l’esprit de python et les devins, ou qui demande aux morts la vérité;
Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 Car le Seigneur a toutes ces choses en abomination, et c’est à cause de ces sortes de crimes qu’il détruira ces nations à ton entrée.
For all that do these things are an abomination unto Yhwh: and because of these abominations Yhwh thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
13 Tu seras parfait et sans tache avec le Seigneur ton Dieu.
Thou shalt be perfect with Yhwh thy God.
14 Ces nations dont tu posséderas la terre, écoutent les augures et les devins; mais toi, tu as été instruit autrement par le Seigneur ton Dieu.
For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, Yhwh thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
15 Le Seigneur ton Dieu te suscitera un Prophète de ta nation et d’entre tes frères, comme moi; c’est lui que tu écouteras;
Yhwh thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
16 Comme tu as demandé au Seigneur ton Dieu à Horeb, quand l’assemblée fut réunie, et comme tu as dit: Que je n’entende plus la voix du Seigneur mon Dieu, et que je ne voie plus ce très grand feu, afin que je ne meure pas.
According to all that thou desiredst of Yhwh thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of Yhwh my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.
17 Et le Seigneur me répondit: Ils ont bien dit toutes choses.
And Yhwh said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.
18 Je leur susciterai un prophète du milieu de leurs frères, semblable à toi, et je mettrai mes paroles en sa bouche, et il leur dira tout ce que je lui aurai ordonné.
I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
19 Or, celui qui ne voudra pas écouter ses paroles, qu’il dira en mon nom, c’est moi qui m’en vengerai.
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
20 Mais le prophète qui, corrompu par orgueil, voudra dire en mon nom des choses que je ne lui ai pas ordonné de dire, ou qui parlera au nom de dieux étrangers, sera mis à mort.
But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
21 Que si tu réponds secrètement par la pensée: Comment puis-je discerner la parole que le Seigneur n’a pas dite?
And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which Yhwh hath not spoken?
22 Tu auras ce signe: Ce que ce prophète aura prédit au nom du Seigneur, n’arrivant pas, le Seigneur ne l’a pas dit, mais c’est par l’enflure de son esprit que le prophète l’a inventé: et c’est pourquoi tu ne le craindras pas.
When a prophet speaketh in the name of Yhwh, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which Yhwh hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
