Deutéronome 13

1 S’il s’élève au milieu de toi un prophète, ou quelqu’un qui dise qu’il a vu un songe, qui prédise un signe ou un prodige,

When there shall arise in thy midst—a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, —and he shall give unto thee a sign or a wonder;

2 Qu’arrive ce qu’il a annoncé, et qu’il te dise: Allons, et suivons des dieux étrangers, que tu ne connais pas, et servons-les:

and the sign or the wonder shall come in, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, —Let us go after other gods, which ye know not and let us serve them

3 Tu n’écouteras point les paroles de ce prophète ou de ce songeur, parce que le Seigneur votre Dieu vous éprouve, afin qu’il soit démontré, si vous l’aimez ou non, en tout votre cœur et en toute votre âme.

thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams, —for Yahweh your God, is putting you to the proof, to know whether ye do love Yahweh your God, with all your heart and with all your soul.

4 Ne suivez que le Seigneur votre Dieu, ne craignez que lui, ne gardez que ses commandements, et n’écoutez que sa voix; ne servez que lui, et ne vous attachez qu’à lui.

After Yahweh your God, shall ye walk And him, shall ye revere, —And his commandments, shall ye observe. And unto his voice, shall ye hearken, And him, shall ye serve And unto him, shall ye cleave.

5 Mais ce prophète ou cet inventeur de songes sera tué, parce qu’il a parlé pour vous détourner du Seigneur votre Dieu, qui vous a retirés de la terre d’Egypte, et vous a rachetés de la maison de servitude, pour te faire écarter de la voie que t’a prescrite le Seigneur ton Dieu: tu ôteras ainsi le mal du milieu de toi.

And that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death because he hath spoken revolt against Yahweh your God, —who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt and redeemed thee out of the house of servants, to seduce thee out of the way wherein Yahweh thy God hath commanded thee to walk, —so shalt thou consume the wicked thing out of thy midst.

6 Si ton frère, le fils de ta mère, ou ton fils ou ta fille, ou ta femme qui repose sur ton sein, ou ton ami, que tu aimes comme ton âme, veut te persuader, te disant en secret: Allons, et servons des dieux étrangers que tu n’as pas connus, ni toi ni tes pères,

When thy brother—son of thine own mother or thine own son or thine own daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend who is as thine own soul, shall entice thee secretly, saying, —Let us go and serve other gods, whom thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

7 Les dieux de toutes les nations qui sont autour de vous, loin ou près, depuis le commencement jusqu’à la fin de la terre:

of the gods of the peoples who are round about you, who are near unto thee, or who are far off from thee, —from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth,

8 N’aie point de déférence pour lui, ne l’écoute pas, et que ton œil ne le ménage point, en sorte que tu aies pitié de lui et que tu le caches;

thou shalt not consent unto him, neither shalt thou hearken unto him, —neither shall thine eye look with pity upon him, neither shalt thou spare—neither shalt thou conceal him;

9 Mais tue-le aussitôt. Que ta main d’abord soit sur lui, et qu’ensuite tout le peuple y porte la main.

but thou shalt slay, him, thine own hand, shall be on him first, to put him to death, —and the hand of all the people afterwards.

10 Accablé de pierres, il périra, parce qu’il a voulu t’arracher au Seigneur ton Dieu, qui t’a retiré de la terre d’Egypte, de la maison de servitude;

And thou shalt stone him with stones that he die, —for he hath sought to seduce thee from Yahweh thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of servants.

11 Afin que tout Israël entendant, craigne, et qu’à l’avenir, il ne fasse nullement rien de semblable à cela.

And, all Israel, shall hear and fear, —and shall not again do according to this wickedness in thy midst.

12 Si dans une de tes villes que le Seigneur ton Dieu te donnera à habiter, tu entends quelques-uns disant:

When thou shalt hear—in one of thy cities which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee to dwell there—saying:

13 Des fils de Bélial sont sortis du milieu de toi, ils ont détourné les habitants de leur ville, et ont dit: Allons, et servons des dieux étrangers que vous ne connaissez pas:

There have gone forth men sons of the Abandoned One, out of thy midst, and have seduced the inhabitants of their city, saying, —Let us go, and serve other gods which ye have not known;

14 Fais des recherches avec sollicitude et un grand soin; la vérité de la chose bien examinée, si tu trouves, que ce qu’on dit est certain, et que cette abomination a été réellement commise,

and thou shalt enquire, and search out, and ask diligently, —and lo! true—certain, is the thing, this abomination, hath been done, in thy midst,

15 Tu frapperas aussitôt les habitants de cette ville du tranchant du glaive, et tu la détruiras, ainsi que tout ce qui est en elle, jusqu’aux animaux.

then shalt thou smite, the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, devoting it to destruction, and all that is therein and the cattle thereof: with the edge of the sword, —

16 De plus, tout ce qu’il y aura de meubles, tu le rassembleras au milieu de ses rues, et tu le brûleras avec la ville elle-même, de manière à ce que tu consumes tout en l’honneur du Seigneur ton Dieu, et que ce soit un monceau de ruines perpétuel: ainsi elle ne sera plus rebâtie,

and all the spoil thereof, shalt thou gather together into the midst of the broadway thereof, and shalt consume with fire the city and all the spoil thereof, every whit, unto Yahweh thy God, —and it shall be a heap unto times age-abiding, it shall be built no more.

17 Et il ne s’attachera rien de cet anathème à ta main, afin que le Seigneur soit détourné de la colère de sa fureur, qu’il ait pitié de toi, et qu’il te multiplie, comme il a juré à tes pères,

So shall there not cleave to thy hand aught of the devoted thing, —that Yahweh may turn away, from the glow of his anger and grant thee compassion and have compassion upon thee and multiply thee, as he sware unto thy fathers;

18 Quand tu écouteras la voix du Seigneur ton Dieu, gardant tous ses préceptes que moi, je te prescris aujourd’hui, afin que tu fasses ce qui est agréable en la présence du Seigneur ton Dieu.

so long as thou shalt hearken unto the voice of Yahweh thy God, to keep all his commandments, which I am commanding thee to-day, —to do what is right in the eyes of Yahweh thy God.
