Daniel 3
1 Le roi Nabuchodonosor fit une statue d’or de soixante coudées de hauteur, de six coudées de largeur, et la plaça dans le champ de Dura, de la province de Babylone.
Nebuchadnezzar the king, made an image of gold, the height thereof, sixty cubits, the breadth thereof, six cubits, —he set it up in the valley of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
2 C’est pourquoi le roi Nabuchodonosor envoya pour rassembler les satrapes, les magistrats et les juges, les chefs de l’armée, et les princes, et les intendants, et tous les gouverneurs de provinces, afin qu’ils vinssent ensemble à la dédicace de la statue qu’avait élevée le roi Nabuchodonosor.
And, Nebuchadnezzar the king, sent to gather together the satraps, the nobles and the pashas, the chief judges, the treasurers, the judges, the lawyers, and all the rulers of the province, —to come to the dedication of the image, which Nebuchadnezzar the king, had set up.
3 Alors s’assemblèrent les satrapes, les magistrats et les juges, les chefs de l’armée, et les premiers par le rang, et les grands qui étaient constitués en puissance, et tous les gouverneurs de provinces, afin qu’ils vinssent ensemble à la dédicace de la statue qu’avait posée le roi Nabuchodonosor;
Then were gathered together, the satraps, the nobles and the pashas, the chief judges, the treasurers, the judges, the lawyers, and all the rulers of the province, to the dedication of the image, which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up, —and they stood before the image, which Nebuchadnezzar, had set up.
4 Et un héraut criait fortement: Il vous est dit à vous, peuples tribus et langues:
And, the herald, proclaimed aloud, —To you, is given the word, O ye peoples, races, and tongues:
5 À l’heure à laquelle vous entendrez le son de la trompette, et de la flûte, et de la harpe, de la sambuque, et du psaltérion, et de la symphonie, et de toute espèce de musique, tombant à terre, adorez la statue d’or qu’a élevée le roi Nabuchodonosor.
At what time ye shall hear the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the harp, the psaltery, the bagpipes, and all kinds of instruments of music, ye shall fall down and adore the image of gold, which Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up;
6 Si quelqu’un ne se prosterne pas pour adorer, à la même heure il sera jeté dans la fournaise d’un feu ardent.
and, whosoever shall not fall down and adore, shall, instantly, be cast into the burning furnace of fire.
7 Après cela donc, dès que tous les peuples eurent entendu le son de la trompette, de la flûte et de la harpe, de la sambuque, et du psaltérion, et de la symphonie, et de toute espèce de musique, tombant à terre, tous les peuples, les tribus et les langues, adorèrent la statue d’or qu’avait élevée le roi Nabuchodonosor.
Wherefore, at the same time—when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the harp, the psaltery, and all kinds of instruments of music, they were falling down—even all the peoples, the races, and the tongues, —adoring the image of gold, which Nebuchadnezzar the king, had set up.
8 Et aussitôt dans ce temps-là même, des hommes des Chaldéens, s’approchant, accusèrent les Juifs;
Wherefore, at the same time, drew near certain Chaldeans, —and accused the Jews:
9 Et ils dirent au roi Nabuchodonosor: Roi, vivez à jamais;
they spake, and said, to Nebuchadnezzar the king: O king! for ages, live!
10 C’est vous, roi, qui avez rendu ce décret, que tout homme qui aura ouï le son de la trompette, de la flûte, et de la harpe, de la sambuque, et du psaltérion, et de la symphonie, et de toute sorte de musique, se prosterne et adore la statue d’or;
Thou thyself, O king, hast made a decree, that, any man who shall hear the sound of the horn, the pipe, the lyre, the harp, the psaltery and the bagpipes, and all kinds of instruments of music, shall fall down and adore the image of gold;
11 Et que si quelqu’un ne se prosterne pas et ne l’adore pas, qu’il soit jeté dans la fournaise d’un feu ardent.
and, whosoever shall not fall down and adore, shall be cast into the burning furnace of fire.
12 Et voilà que des hommes juifs que vous avez préposés aux affaires de la province de Babylone, Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, voilà que ces hommes, ô roi, ont méprisé votre décret; ils n’honorent point vos dieux, et la statue d’or que vous avez érigée, ils ne l’adorent pas.
There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the business of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, —these men, have made thee, O king, of no account, thy god, they serve not, and, the image of gold which thou hast set up, do they not adore.
13 Alors Nabuchodonosor, en fureur et en colère, ordonna que Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago fussent amenés; lesquels furent aussitôt conduits en la présence du roi.
Then, Nebuchadnezzar—with anger and wrath, gave word to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, then, these men, brought they before the king.
14 Et prenant la parole, le roi Nabuchodonosor leur dit: Est-il vrai, Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, que vous n’honorez pas mes dieux, et que la statue d’or que j’ai élevée, vous ne l’adorez pas?
Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it, with design, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, —that, my god, ye are not serving, and, the image which I have set up, are not adoring?
15 Maintenant donc, si vous êtes prêts à obéir, à quelque heure que vous entendiez le son de la trompette, de la flûte, de la harpe, de la sambuque et du psaltérion, et de la symphonie, et de toutes sortes de musiques, prosternez-vous, et adorez la statue que j’ai faite; que si vous ne l’adorez pas, à la même heure vous serez jetés dans la fournaise d’un feu ardent; et qui est le Dieu qui vous arrachera de ma main?
Now, if ye be ready, at what time ye shall hear the sound of the cornet, the pipe, the lyre, the harp, the psaltery and the bagpipes, and all the instruments of music, ye shall fall down and adore the image which I have made, but, if ye shall not adore, instantly, shall ye be cast into the midst of the burning furnace of fire, —and who is the god that shall deliver you out of my hands?
16 Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, répondant, dirent au roi Nabuchodonosor: Il n’est pas besoin que nous vous répondions sur ce sujet.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego answered, and said to the king: O Nebuchadnezzar! we are not accounting it needful, concerning this, to answer thee.
17 Car voilà que notre Dieu que nous honorons peut nous retirer de la fournaise d’un feu ardent, et nous délivrer, ô roi, de vos mains.
If it is, our God, whom we serve, is able to deliver us, —out of the burning furnace of fire, and out of thy hand, O king, he will deliver.
18 Que s’il ne le veut pas, sachez, ô roi, que nous n’honorons pas vos dieux, et que la statue que vous avez érigée, nous ne l’adorons pas.
But, if not, be it known to thee, O king, —that, thy god, will we not serve, and, the image of gold which thou hast set up, will we not adore.
19 Alors Nabuchodonosor fut rempli de fureur; et l’aspect de sa face fut changé pour Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, et il ordonna que la fournaise fût embrasée sept fois plus qu’on n’avait coutume de l’embraser.
Then, Nebuchadnezzar, was filled with wrath, and, the likeness of his countenance, was changed, against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, —he spake and gave word to heat the furnace seven times hotter than it was ever seen heated;
20 Et il commanda aux hommes les plus forts de son armée de lier les pieds de Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, et de les jeter dans la fournaise du feu ardent.
and, to men, who were the mightiest men in his army, gave he word to bind fast Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, —to cast them into the burning furnace of fire.
21 Et aussitôt ces trois hommes-ci, ayant été liés, ils furent jetés, avec leurs chausses, et leurs tiares, et leurs chaussures, et leurs vêtements, au milieu de la fournaise du feu ardent.
Then bound they, these men, in their trousers, their tunics, and their cloaks, and their (other) clothing, —and cast into the midst of the burning furnace of fire.
22 Car le commandement du roi pressait, et la fournaise était extrêmement embrasée. Or, les hommes qui avaient jeté Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, la flamme du feu les consuma.
Therefore, because the word of the king had raged forth, and the furnace was exceeding hot, those very men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, were slain by the flame of the fire;
23 Mais ces trois hommes, c’est-à-dire Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago tombèrent liés au milieu de la fournaise du feu ardent.
and, these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down into the midst of the burning furnace of fire, fast bound.
24 Alors le roi Nabuchodonosor fut frappé de stupeur, et il se leva promptement, et il dit aux grands de sa cour: Est-ce que nous n’avons pas jeté trois hommes au milieu du feu enchaînés? Ceux-ci, répondant au roi, dirent: Il est vrai, ô roi.
Then, Nebuchadnezzar the king, was amazed, and rose up in haste: he spake and said to his nearest friends—Were there not three men, we cast into the midst of the fire, fast bound? They answered and said to the king, Surely, O king!
25 Il répondit et dit: Voici que moi, je vois quatre hommes déliés et marchant au milieu du feu; il n’y a rien en eux de corrompu, et le quatrième est semblable à un fils de Dieu.
He answered and said, Lo! I, see four men, unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and, injury, there is not in them, and, the appearance of the fourth, is like to a son of the gods!
26 Alors Nabuchodonosor s’approcha de la fournaise du feu ardent, et dit: Sidrach, Misach, et Abdénago, serviteurs du Dieu très haut, sortez et venez. Et aussitôt Sidrach, Misach, et Abdénago sortirent du milieu du feu.
Then did Nebuchadnezzar, draw near, to the door of the burning furnace of fire, he spake and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servants of the most high God, step forth and come hither. Then stepped forth Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, out of the midst of the fire.
27 Et les satrapes, et les magistrats, et les juges, et les puissants auprès du roi, assemblés, contemplaient ces hommes, parce que le feu n’avait eu aucun pouvoir sur leur corps, et que pas un cheveu de leur tête n’avait été brûlé, et que leurs vêtements n’avaient reçu aucune atteinte, et que l’odeur du feu n’était pas venue jusqu’à eux.
And—being gathered together—the satraps, the nobles, and the pashas and near friends of the king, saw these men, over whose bodies the fire had, no power, nor was, a hair of their head, singed, neither were, their trousers, disfigured, —nor had, the smell of fire, come upon them.
28 Et rompant le silence, Nabuchodonosor dit: Béni leur Dieu, c’est-à-dire le Dieu de Sidrach, de Misach et d’Abdénago, lequel a envoyé son ange et délivré ses serviteurs, qui ont cru en lui, qui ont enfreint la parole du roi, et ont livré leur corps pour ne servir et n’adorer aucun dieu, excepté leur Dieu,
Nebuchadnezzar spake and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his messenger, and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, —when, the word of the king, they transgressed, and delivered up their bodies, that they might not serve nor adore any god, saving their own God.
29 Voici donc le décret qui par moi a été porté, c’est que tout peuple, tribu et langue quelconque, qui aura proféré un blasphème contre le Dieu de Sidrach, de Misach et d’Abdénago, périsse, et que sa maison soit dévastée; car il n’est pas un autre dieu qui puisse ainsi sauver.
Therefore do I make a decree, that, whosoever of any people, race, or tongue it be that shall charge any error upon the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and, his house, into a dunghill, shall be changed; because there is no other God, who is able to deliver, like this!
30 Alors le roi éleva en dignité Sidrach, Misach et Abdénago, dans la province de Babylone.
Then, the king, advanced Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, in the province of Babylon.
