Amos 9

1 J’ai vu le Seigneur se tenant sur l’autel, disant: Frappez le gond, et que les linteaux soient ébranlés; car l’avarice est dans la tête de tous, et je tuerai le dernier d’entre eux par le glaive; la fuite ne leur sera pas favorable. Ils fuiront, et celui d’entre eux qui aura fui ne sera pas sauvé.

I saw the Lord standing upon the altar, and he said: Strike the hinges, and let the lintels be shook: for there is covetousness in the head of them all, and I will slay the last of them with the sword: there shall be no flight for them: they shall flee, and he that shall flee of them shall not be delivered.

2 S’ils descendent jusqu’à l’enfer, ma main les en retirera; et s’ils montent jusqu’au ciel, je les en ferai tomber. (Sheol h7585)

Though they go down even to hell, thence shall my hand bring them out: and though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down. (Sheol h7585)

3 Et s’ils se cachent sur le sommet du Carmel, je les y chercherai et les en enlèverai; s’ils se cachent à mes yeux dans les profondeurs de la mer, là je commanderai à un serpent, et il les mordra.

And though they be hid in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them away from thence: and though they hide themselves from my eyes in the depth of the sea, there will I command the serpent and he shall bite them.

4 Et s’ils sont en captivité devant leurs ennemis, là, je commanderai au glaive, et il les tuera; je fixerai mes yeux sur eux pour leur mal et non pour leur bien.

And if they go into captivity before their enemies, there will I command the sword, and it shall kill them. And I will set my eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.

5 Et le Seigneur Dieu des armées touche la terre et elle se fondra, et ils seront dans le deuil, tous ceux qui y habitent; et elle montera comme le fleuve tout entière, et s’écoulera comme le fleuve d’Egypte.

And the Lord the God of hosts is he who toucheth the earth, and it shall melt: and all that dwell therein shall mourn: and it shall rise up as a river, and shall run down as the river of Egypt.

6 Celui qui établit dans le ciel son élévation et qui a fondé son faisceau sur la terre; qui appelle les eaux de la mer, et les répand sur la face de la terre; le Seigneur est son nom.

He that buildeth his ascension in heaven, and hath founded his bundle upon the earth: who calleth the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth, the Lord is his name.

7 Est-ce que vous n’êtes pas pour moi comme les fils des Ethiopiens, fils d’Israël, dit le Seigneur? Est-ce que je n’ai pas fait monter Israël de la terre d’Egypte, et les Philistins de la Cappadoce, et les Syriens de Cyrène?

Are not you as the children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel, saith the Lord? did not I bring up Israel, out of the land of Egypt: and the Philistines out of Cappadocia, and the Syrians out of Cyrene?

8 Voici que les yeux du Seigneur sont sur le royaume pécheur, je le détruirai de la face de la terre; cependant, détruisant, je ne détruirai point la maison de Jacob, dit le Seigneur.

Behold the eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth: but yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the Lord.

9 Car voici que moi je commanderai et j’agiterai parmi toutes les nations la maison d’Israël, comme est agité le blé dans le crible, et il ne tombera pas une seule petite pierre sur la terre.

For behold I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, as corn is sifted in a sieve: and there shall not a little stone fall to the ground.

10 C’est par le glaive que mourront tous les pécheurs d’entre mon peuple, ceux qui disent: Non, il n’approchera pas, il ne viendra pas sur nous, le mal qu’on nous prédit.

All the sinners of my people shall fall by the sword: who say: The evils shall not approach, and shall not come upon us.

11 En ce jour-là, je relèverai le tabernacle de David, qui est tombé; et je refermerai les ouvertures de ses murs, et ce qui était écroulé, je le restaurerai, et je le rebâtirai comme dans les jours anciens.

In that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David, that is fallen: and I will close up the breaches of the walls thereof, and repair what was fallen: and I will rebuild it as in the days of old.

12 Afin qu’ils possèdent les restes de l’Idumée et toutes les nations, parce que mon nom a été invoqué sur eux, dit le Seigneur, qui fera ces choses.

That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all nations, because my name is invoked upon them: saith the Lord that doth these things.

13 Voici que des jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, et le laboureur succédera immédiatement au moissonneur, et celui qui foule le raisin à celui qui répand la semence; les montagnes distilleront la douceur, et toutes les collines seront cultivées.

Behold the days come, saith the Lord, when the ploughman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed: and the mountains shall drop sweetness, and every hill shall be tilled.

14 Et je ramènerai les captifs de mon peuple d’Israël; et ils bâtiront des cités désertes et ils les habiteront; et ils planteront des vignes, et ils en boiront le vin, et ils feront des jardins, et ils en mangeront les fruits.

And I will bring back the captivity of my people Israel: and they shall build the abandoned cities, and inhabit them: and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine of them: and shall make gardens, and eat the fruits of them.

15 Et je les planterai dans leur propre sol et je ne les arracherai plus de leur terre que je leur ai donnée, dit le Seigneur ton Dieu.

And I will plant them upon their own land: and I will no more pluck them out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God.
