Amos 8
1 Voici ce que m’a montré le Seigneur Dieu; or voici un crochet pour abattre des fruits.
Thus did Jehovah shew unto me; and behold, a basket of summer-fruit.
2 Et il dit: Que vois-tu, Amos? Et je dis: Un crochet pour abattre des fruits. Et le Seigneur me dit: Elle est venue, la fin pour mon peuple d’Israël; je ne le traverserai plus à l’avenir.
And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer-fruit. And Jehovah said unto me, The end is come upon my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.
3 Et les gonds du temple retentiront en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur Dieu; beaucoup mourront; en tout lieu régnera le silence.
And the songs of the palace shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah. The dead bodies shall be many; in every place they shall be cast forth. Silence!
4 Ecoutez ceci, vous qui écrasez le pauvre, et qui faites défaillir les indigents de la terre,
Hear this, ye that pant after the needy, even to cause to fail the poor of the land,
5 Disant: Quand sera passé le mois, alors nous vendrons nos marchandises; et quand sera passé le Sabbat, alors nous ouvrirons nos greniers de blé, afin que nous diminuions la mesure, et que nous augmentions le sicle, et que nous substituions des balances trompeuses,
saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat? making the ephah small and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances for deceit:
6 Afin d’avoir en notre possession, pour de l’argent, des indigents et des pauvres, pour des chaussures, et que nous vendions le rebut du blé.
that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; and that we may sell the refuse of the wheat.
7 Le Seigneur a juré contre l’orgueil de Jacob: Si j’oublierai jamais aucune de leurs œuvres.
Jehovah hath sworn by the glory of Jacob, Certainly I will never forget any of their works.
8 Est-ce que sur cela la terre ne sera pas ébranlée, et que tous ses habitants ne seront pas dans le deuil? et que tous entièrement ne monteront pas comme le fleuve, et qu’ils ne seront pas chassés, et qu’ils ne s’écouleront pas comme le fleuve d’Egypte?
Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? And it shall wholly rise up like the Nile; and it shall surge and sink down, as the river of Egypt.
9 Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur Dieu, que le soleil se couchera à midi, et je ferai que la terre se couvrira de ténèbres en un jour de lumière.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the land in the clear day.
10 Et je convertirai vos fêtes en deuil, et tous vos cantiques en lamentations; et je mettrai sur tous vos reins un cilice, et sur toutes vos têtes la calvitie; et je plongerai Israël dans le deuil, comme à la mort d’un fils unique, et ses derniers moments seront comme un jour amer.
And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only [son], and the end thereof as a bitter day.
11 Voilà que des jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, et j’enverrai la faim sur la terre, non la faim du pain, ni la soif de l’eau, mais d’entendre la parole du Seigneur.
Behold, days come, saith the Lord Jehovah, when I will send a famine in the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Jehovah.
12 Et ils seront dans le trouble depuis une mer jusqu’à l’autre, et depuis l’aquilon jusqu’à l’orient; ils iront de tous côtés, cherchant la parole du Seigneur, et ils ne la trouveront pas.
And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, and shall not find it.
13 En ce jour-là, les vierges dans leur beauté et les jeunes hommes défaudront par la soif.
In that day shall the fair virgins and the young men faint for thirst;
14 Ceux qui jurent par le péché de Samarie et disent: Il vit, ton Dieu, Dan! et elle vit, la voie de Bersabée! tomberont et ne se relèveront plus.
they that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, [As] thy god, O Dan, liveth! and, [As] the way of Beer-sheba liveth! even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
