Actes 6
1 Or en ces jours-là, le nombre des disciples croissant, il s’éleva un murmure des Grecs contre les Hébreux, de ce que leurs veuves étaient négligées dans la distribution de chaque jour.
Now in these days while the number of the disciples was multiplying, the Grecian Jews began to murmur against the Hebrews, because their widows were habitually overlooked in the distribution of alms.
2 Les douze donc, convoquant la multitude des disciples, dirent: Il n’est pas juste que nous abandonnions la parole de Dieu, et que nous vaquions au service des tables.
Then the Twelve called the general body of the disciples together, and said to them. "It is not fitting for us to leave off preaching the Word of God, and minister at tables.
3 Cherchez donc parmi vous, mes frères, sept hommes de bon témoignage, pleins de l’Esprit-Saint et de sagesse, que nous puissions préposer à cette œuvre.
"So, brothers, find from among your own number seven men of good reputation who are full of the Spirit and of wisdom, and we will appoint them over this business.
4 Poumons, nous nous appliquerons à la prière et au ministère de la parole.
"But we will give ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word."
5 Ce discours plut à toute la multitude. Et ils élurent Etienne, homme plein de foi et de l’Esprit-Saint, Philippe, Prochore, Nicanor, Timon, Parménas et Nicolas, prosélyte d’Antioche.
This plan commended itself to the whole body, and they selected Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch.
6 Ils les présentèrent aux apôtres, et ceux-ci, priant, leur imposèrent les mains.
These men they presented to the apostles who, when they had prayed, laid their hands upon them.
7 Et la parole du Seigneur croissait, et le nombre des disciples se multipliait grandement à Jérusalem; et même un grand nombre de prêtres obéissaient à la foi.
And the word of the Lord continued to spread; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was increasing exceedingly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
8 Or Etienne, plein de grâce et de force, faisait des prodiges et de grands miracles parmi le peuple.
Meanwhile Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought great wonders and signs among the people.
9 Mais quelques-uns de la synagogue qui est appelée des Affranchis, de celle des Cyrénéens et des Alexandrins, et de ceux qui étaient de Cilicie et d’Asie, se levèrent, disputant contre Etienne;
But certain men from the so-called "Synagogue of the Freedmen" and certain Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, Cilicians, and men from Roman Asia, started to dispute with Stephen,
10 Et ils ne pouvaient résister à la sagesse et à l’Esprit-Saint qui parlait.
but were unable to withstand the wisdom and spirit with which he used to speak.
11 Alors ils subornèrent des hommes pour dire qu’ils l’avaient entendu proférer des paroles de blasphème contre Moïse et contre Dieu.
Then they instigated some to say, "We have heard him speaking blasphemy against Moses and against God;" and in this way they excited the people.
12 Ils soulevèrent ainsi le peuple, les anciens et les scribes: et ceux-ci accourant ensemble, l’entraînèrent et l’amenèrent au conseil,
The elders and the scribes rushed upon him, and seized him, and brought him into the Sanhedrin.
13 Et ils produisirent de faux témoins pour dire: Cet homme ne cesse de parler contre le lieu saint et contre la loi;
They also set up false witnesses who testified. "This fellow is continually talking against the Holy Place and against the law.
14 Car nous l’avons entendu disant que ce Jésus de Nazareth détruira ce lieu, et changera les traditions que nous a données Moïse.
"For we have heard him say that Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which were handed down to us by Moses."
15 Et tous ceux qui siégeaient dans le conseil, ayant fixé les yeux sur lui, ils virent son visage comme le visage d’un ange.
Then all who were sitting in the council at once fixed their eyes upon him, and saw his face like the face of an angel.
