Actes 5
1 Or un certain homme, du nom d’Ananie, avec Saphire, sa femme, vendit un champ,
And a certain man, Ananias by name, with his wife Sapphira, sold a possession,
2 Et frauda sur le prix du champ, sa femme le sachant, et en apportant une partie, il la déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
and kept back of the price—his wife also knowing—and having brought a certain part, he laid [it] at the feet of the apostles.
3 Mais Pierre lui dit: Ananie, pourquoi Satan a-t-il tenté ton cœur, pour mentir à l’Esprit-Saint, et frauder sur le prix du champ?
And Peter said, “Ananias, why did Satan fill your heart, for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back of the price of the place?
4 Restant en tes mains, ne demeurait-il pas à toi? et vendu, n’était-il pas encore en ta puissance? Pourquoi donc as-tu formé ce dessein dans ton cœur? Tu n’as pas menti aux hommes, mais à Dieu.
While it remained, did it not remain yours? And having been sold, was it not in your authority? Why [is] it that you put this thing in your heart? You did not lie to men, but to God”;
5 Or, entendant ces paroles, Ananie tomba et expira; et il se répandit une grande crainte sur tous ceux qui apprirent ces choses.
and Ananias hearing these words, having fallen down, expired, and great fear came on all who heard these things,
6 Et de jeunes hommes, se levant, l’enlevèrent, et, l’ayant emporté, ils l’ensevelirent.
and having risen, the younger men wound him up, and having carried forth, they buried [him].
7 Mais il arriva, dans l’espace d’environ trois heures, que sa femme, ignorant ce qui s’était passé, entra.
And it came to pass, about three hours after, that his wife, not knowing what has happened, came in,
8 Et Pierre lui dit: Femme, dites-moi si vous avez vendu le champ ce prix-là? Elle répondit: Oui, ce prix-là.
and Peter answered her, “Tell me if for so much you sold the place”; and she said, “Yes, for so much.”
9 Et Pierre lui dit: Pourquoi vous êtes-vous concertés ensemble pour tenter l’Esprit-Saint? Voilà que les pieds de ceux qui ont enseveli votre mari sont à la porte, et ils vous emporteront.
And Peter said to her, “How was it agreed by you to tempt the Spirit of the LORD? Behold, the feet of those who buried your husband [are] at the door, and they will carry you forth”;
10 Et aussitôt elle tomba à ses pieds, et elle expira. Or les jeunes hommes, étant entrés, la trouvèrent morte; ils l’emportèrent donc et l’ensevelirent auprès de son mari.
and immediately she fell down at his feet, and expired, and the young men having come in, found her dead, and having carried forth, they buried [her] by her husband;
11 Et il se répandit une grande crainte dans toute l’Eglise et en tous ceux qui apprirent ces choses.
and great fear came on all the Assembly, and on all who heard these things.
12 Cependant, par les mains des apôtres, s’opéraient beaucoup de miracles et de prodiges au milieu du peuple. Et tous unis ensemble se tenaient dans le portique de Salomon.
And through the hands of the apostles came many signs and wonders among the people, and they were all with one accord in the porch of Solomon;
13 Or aucun des autres n’osait se joindre à eux; mais le peuple les exaltait.
and of the rest no one was daring to join himself to them, but the people were magnifying them,
14 Ainsi de plus en plus s’augmentait la multitude des croyants dans le Seigneur, hommes et femmes;
(and the more were believers added to the LORD, multitudes of both men and women),
15 De sorte qu’ils apportaient les malades dans les places publiques, et les posaient sur des lits et sur des grabats, afin que, Pierre venant, son ombre au moins couvrît quelqu’un d’eux, et qu’ils fussent délivrés de leurs maladies.
so as to bring forth the ailing into the broad places, and to lay [them] on beds and pallets, that at the coming of Peter, even [his] shadow might overshadow someone of them;
16 Le peuple des villes voisines de Jérusalem accourait aussi, apportant des malades et ceux que tourmentaient des esprits impurs; et tous étaient guéris.
and there were also coming together the people of the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, carrying ailing persons, and those harassed by unclean spirits—who were all healed.
17 Alors le prince des prêtres se levant, lui et tous ceux de son parti (c’est-à-dire de la secte des sadducéens), furent remplis de colère;
And having risen, the chief priest, and all those with him—being the sect of the Sadducees—were filled with zeal,
18 Ils mirent la main sur les apôtres et les jetèrent dans une prison publique.
and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in a public prison;
19 Mais un ange du Seigneur, ouvrant pendant la nuit les portes de la prison, et les faisant sortir, dit:
but through the night a messenger of the LORD opened the doors of the prison, having also brought them forth, he said,
20 Allez, et, vous tenant dans le temple, annoncez au peuple toutes les paroles de cette vie.
“Go on, and standing, speak in the temple to the people all the sayings of this life”;
21 Ce qu’ayant entendu, ils entrèrent au point du jour dans le temple, et ils enseignaient. Cependant le prince des prêtres étant venu, et ceux de son parti aussi, ils convoquèrent le Conseil et tous les anciens des enfants d’Israël, et ils envoyèrent à la prison pour qu’on amenât les apôtres.
and having heard, they entered into the temple at the dawn, and were teaching. And the chief priest having come, and those with him, they called together the Sanhedrin and all the Senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have them brought,
22 Quand les archers y furent arrivés, et qu’ayant ouvert la prison ils ne les trouvèrent point, ils revinrent l’annoncer,
and the officers having come, did not find them in the prison, and having turned back, they told,
23 Disant: Nous avons trouvé la prison fermée avec le plus grand soin, et les gardes debout devant les portes; mais ayant ouvert, nous n’avons trouvé personne dedans.
saying, “We indeed found the prison shut in all safety, and the keepers standing outside before the doors, and having opened—we found no one within.”
24 Dès que le magistrat du temple et les princes des prêtres eurent entendu ces paroles, pleins de doutes à l’égard de ces hommes, ils ne savaient ce que cela deviendrait.
And as the priest, and the magistrate of the temple, and the chief priests, heard these words, they were doubting concerning them to what this would come;
25 Mais quelqu’un survenant leur dit: Voilà que les hommes que vous aviez mis en prison sont dans le temple et enseignent le peuple.
and coming near, a certain one told them, saying, “Behold, the men whom you put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people”;
26 Alors le magistrat y alla avec ses archers, et il les amena sans violence, parce qu’ils craignaient d’être lapidés par le peuple.
then the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned;
27 Lorsqu’ils les eurent amenés, ils les introduisirent dans le Conseil, et le prince des prêtres les interrogea,
and having brought them, they set [them] in the Sanhedrin, and the chief priest questioned them,
28 Disant: Nous vous avons défendu absolument d’enseigner en ce nom-là, et voilà que vous avez rempli Jérusalem de votre doctrine, et que vous voulez rejeter sur nous le sang de cet homme.
saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this Name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring on us the blood of this Man.”
29 Mais Pierre et les apôtres, répondant, dirent: Il faut plutôt obéir à Dieu qu’aux hommes.
And Peter and the apostles answering, said, “It is required to obey God, rather than men;
30 Le Dieu de nos pères a ressuscité Jésus, que vous-mêmes vous avez fait mourir, le suspendant à un bois.
and the God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you slew, having hanged on a tree;
31 C’est lui que Dieu a élevé par sa droite comme prince et Sauveur, pour donner à Israël pénitence et rémission des péchés;
this One, God, a Prince and a Savior, has exalted with His right hand, to give conversion to Israel, and forgiveness of sins;
32 Or nous sommes témoins de ces choses, nous et l’Esprit-Saint que Dieu a donné à tous ceux qui lui obéissent.
and we are His witnesses of these sayings, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying Him.”
33 Ce qu’ayant entendu, ils frémissaient de rage, et ils pensaient à les faire mourir.
And they having heard, were cut [to the heart], and were intending to slay them,
34 Mais un certain pharisien, du nom de Gamaliel, docteur de la loi, et honoré de tout le peuple, se levant dans le conseil, ordonna de faire sortir un moment les apôtres;
but a certain one, having risen up in the Sanhedrin—a Pharisee, by name Gamaliel, a teacher of law honored by all the people—commanded to put the apostles forth a little,
35 Et il leur dit: Hommes d’Israël, prenez garde à ce que vous ferez à l’égard de ces hommes.
and said to them, “Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves about these men, what you are about to do,
36 Car, avant ces jours-ci, Théodas a paru, se disant être quelqu’un, et auquel s’attacha un nombre d’environ quatre cents hommes; il fut tué, et tous ceux qui croyaient en lui se dissipèrent et furent réduits à rien.
for before these days Theudas rose up, saying that he was someone, to whom a number of men joined themselves, as it were four hundred, who was slain, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered, and came to nothing.
37 Après lui s’éleva Judas, le Galiléen, aux jours du dénombrement, et il attira le peuple après lui; il périt, lui aussi, et tous ceux qui s’étaient attachés à lui furent dispersés.
After this one, Judas the Galilean rose up, in the days of the census, and drew away people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered;
38 Voici donc pourquoi je vous dis: Ne vous occupez plus de ces hommes, et laissez-les; car si cette entreprise ou cette œuvre est des hommes, elle se dissipera;
and now I say to you, refrain from these men, and leave them alone, because if this counsel or this work may be of men, it will be overthrown,
39 Que si elle est de Dieu, vous ne pourrez la détruire, et peut-être que vous vous trouveriez combattre contre Dieu même. Ils acquiescèrent à son avis.
and if it be of God, you are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps you are also found fighting against God.”
40 Ayant donc rappelé les apôtres, ils leur défendirent, après les avoir fait déchirer de coups, de parler aucunement au nom de Jésus; et ils les renvoyèrent.
And to him they agreed, and having called near the apostles, having beaten [them], they commanded [them] not to speak in the Name of Jesus, and let them go;
41 Et eux sortirent du conseil, pleins de joie de ce qu’ils avaient été jugés dignes de souffrir des outrages pour le nom de Jésus.
they, indeed, then, departed from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that for His Name they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor,
42 Et tous les jours, ils ne cessaient, dans le temple, et de maison en maison, d’enseigner et d’annoncer le Christ Jésus.
also every day in the temple, and in every house, they were not ceasing teaching and proclaiming good news—Jesus the Christ.
