Actes 14
1 Or il arriva à Icone, qu’ils entrèrent ensemble dans la synagogue, et parlèrent de telle sorte, qu’une grande multitude de Juifs et de Grecs embrassa la foi.
In Iconium it happened that they went together to the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great number both of Jews and of Gentiles believed.
2 Mais ceux des Juifs qui demeurèrent incrédules, excitèrent et irritèrent l’esprit des gentils contre les frères.
But the disobedient Jews stirred up the souls of the Gentiles, and embittered them against them against the brothers.
3 Ils demeurèrent donc là longtemps, agissant avec assurance dans le Seigneur, qui rendait témoignage à la parole de sa grâce, opérant des miracles et des prodiges par leurs mains.
Long time, therefore, they tarried there, speaking fearlessly in the Lord, who attested the word of his grace by permitting signs and wonders to be performed by their hands.
4 Ainsi toute la ville se divisa; les uns étaient pour les Juifs, et les autres pour les apôtres.
But the mass of the city’s people was divided; part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.
5 Et comme les gentils et les Juifs, avec leurs chefs, allaient se jeter sur eux pour les outrager et les lapider,
And when both the Gentiles and the Jews with their ruler made a hostile move to maltreat and to stone them,
6 Les apôtres l’ayant su, s’enfuirent à Lystre et à Derbe, villes de Lycaonie, et dans tout le pays d’alentour, et ils y évangélisaient.
the apostles got wind of it, and made their escape to the Lycaonian towns of Derbe and Lystra and the neighboring country.
7 Or il y avait assis à Lystre, un certain homme perclus de ses pieds. Il était boiteux dès le sein de sa mère, et n’avait jamais marché.
And there they continued to proclaim the gospel.
8 Il entendit Paul parler; et Paul, le regardant et voyant qu’il avait la foi qu’il serait guéri,
Now at Lystra there used to sit a certain man, lame in his feet, a cripple from birth, who had never walked.
9 Dit d’une voix forte: Lève-toi droit sur tes pieds. Et il s’élança, et il marchait.
He was listening while Paul was preaching, and Paul, looking intently at him, and perceiving that he had faith to be made whole,
10 Or la foule, ayant vu ce qu’avait fait Paul, éleva la voix, disant en lycaonien: Des dieux devenus semblables à des hommes sont descendus vers nous.
said in a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet!"
11 Et ils appelaient Barnabé Jupiter; et Paul, Mercure, parce que c’était lui qui portait la parole.
And he sprang up and began to walk about. Then the crowds, when they saw what Paul had done, shouted in the Lycaonian tongue, saying, "The gods are come down to us in human form."
12 Bien plus, le prêtre de Jupiter, qui était près de la ville, étant venu devant la porte avec des taureaux et des couronnes, voulait, avec le peuple, leur sacrifier.
And they began to call Barnabas "Zeus," and Paul, since he was the principal speaker, "Hermes";
13 Ce qu’ayant entendu, les apôtres Barnabé et Paul déchirèrent leurs tuniques, et s’élancèrent dans la foule, criant,
and the priest of Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and along with the crowds was about to offer sacrifices.
14 Et disant: Hommes, pourquoi faites-vous cela? Nous aussi, nous sommes des mortels, des hommes semblables à vous, qui vous exhortons à quitter ces choses vaines pour le Dieu vivant, qui a fait le ciel, la terre, la mer, et tout ce qu’ils contiennent;
But when the apostles, Paul and Barnabas, heard of it, they rent their garments and rushed out among the crowd, shouting and crying.
15 Qui, dans les générations passées, a laissé toutes les nations marcher dans leurs voies.
"Men, why are you doing all this? We also are men, with natures like your own! We are bringing you good tidings, that you are to turn from these empty things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and the sea and all that in them is.
16 Mais néanmoins il ne s’est pas laissé lui-même sans témoignage, répandant du ciel ses biens, en dispensant les pluies et les saisons fécondes, en nous donnant la nourriture en abondance, et en remplissant nos cœurs de joie.
In bygone generations he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways,
17 Même en disant ces choses, ils empêchèrent à peine la foule de leur sacrifier.
and yet he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness."
18 Cependant survinrent quelques Juifs d’Antioche et d’Icone, et, le peuple gagné, ils lapidèrent Paul, et le traînèrent hors de la ville, croyant qu’il était mort.
Even with saying this they with difficulty restrained the crowds from sacrificing to them.
19 Mais les disciples l’entourant, il se leva, et rentra dans la ville, et le jour suivant, il partit pour Derbe avec Barnabé.
And now a party of Jews came down form Antioch and Iconium, and after persuading the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead.
20 Et lorsqu’ils eurent évangélisé cette ville, et instruit un grand nombre de personnes, ils revinrent à Lystre, à Icone et à Antioche,
But as the disciples collected around him, he rose and went back into the city. The next day he went off with Barnabas into Derbe;
21 Affermissant les âmes des disciples, les exhortant à persévérer dans la foi, et disant que c’est par beaucoup de tribulations qu’il nous faut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.
and after preaching the gospel to that town, and winning many converts, they went back to Lystra and Iconium and Antioch,
22 Et après avoir ordonné des prêtres en chaque église, et avoir prié et jeûné, ils les recommandèrent au Seigneur, en qui ils avaient cru.
Everywhere they strengthened the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to hold to the faith. "It is through many tribulations," they said, "that we must enter into the kingdom of God."
23 Traversant ensuite la Pisidie, ils vinrent dans la Pamphylie;
They chose elders for them in every church, after prayer and fasting, and commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.
24 Puis ayant annoncé la parole du Seigneur à Perge, ils descendirent à Attalie,
Then passing through Pisidia they came to Pamphylia and,
25 Et de là, firent voile pour Antioche, d’où on les avait commis à la grâce de Dieu pour l’œuvre qu’ils avaient accomplie.
after preaching the word in Perga, they came down to Attaleia.
26 Or, lorsqu’ils furent arrivés, et qu’ils eurent assemblé l’Eglise, ils racontèrent combien Dieu avait fait de grandes choses avec eux, et qu’il avait ouvert aux gentils la porte de la foi.
Thence they sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been commended to the grace of God, for the work which they had now completed.
27 Et ils demeurèrent là un certain temps avec les disciples.
On their arrival they assembled the church and reported all things that God had done through them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.
And they tarried no little time with the disciples.
