Actes 13
1 Il y avait dans l’église d’Antioche des prophètes et des docteurs, parmi lesquels Barnabé et Simon, qui s’appelait le Noir, Lucius de Cyrène, et Manahen, frère de lait d’Hérode le tétrarque, et Saul.
Now there were in Antioch, distributed through the existing assembly, —prophets and teachers: both Barnabas and Symeon who was called Niger, and Lucius the Cyrenian, Manaen also, Herod the tetrarch’s foster-brother, and Saul.
2 Or pendant qu’ils offraient au Seigneur les saints mystères, et qu’ils jeûnaient, l’Esprit-Saint leur dit: Séparez-moi Saul et Barnabé pour l’oeuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés.
And, as they were publicly ministering unto the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said—Separate forthwith unto me, Barnabas and Saul, unto the work whereunto I have called them.
3 Alors, ayant jeûné et prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains et les firent partir.
Then, fasting and praying, and laying their hands upon them, they sent them away.
4 Et eux, étant ainsi envoyés par l’Esprit-Saint, allèrent à Séleucie, et de là ils firent voile pour Chypre.
They, therefore, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down unto Seleucia, and, from thence, sailed away unto Cyprus;
5 Quand ils furent venus à Salamine, ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs. Or Jean les aidait dans le ministère.
And, coming to be in Salamis, they declared the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; —and they had, John also, as an attendant.
6 Après qu’ils eurent parcouru toute l’île jusqu’à Paphos, ils trouvèrent un certain homme, magicien, faux prophète et Juif, dont le nom était Barjésu,
And, passing through the whole island, as far as Paphos, they found a certain man, a magician, a false-prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus;
7 Et qui était avec le proconsul Sergius Paulus, homme prudent. Celui-ci, ayant fait venir Barnabé et Saul, désirait entendre la parole de Dieu.
Who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. The same, calling for Barnabas and Saul, sought to hear the word of God.
8 Or Elymas, le magicien (car c’est ainsi qu’on interprête son nom), leur résistait, cherchant à détourner le proconsul de la foi.
But Elymas the magician, —for so, when translated, is his name, —withstood them; seeking to turn aside the proconsul from the faith.
9 Mais, rempli de l’Esprit-Saint, Saul, qui est le même que Paul, le regardant,
But Saul, who is also Paul, filled with Holy Spirit, looking steadfastly at him,
10 Dit: Ô homme plein de toute malice et de toute fraude, fils du diable, ennemi de toute justice, tu ne cesses de subvertir les voies droites du Seigneur.
Said—O full of all guile, and all recklessness! Son of an adversary! Enemy of all righteousness!—Wilt thou not cease to pervert the straight ways of the Lord?
11 Mais maintenant, voilà la main du Seigneur sur toi, et tu seras aveugle, ne voyant point le soleil jusqu’à un certain temps. Et soudain tomba sur lui une profonde obscurité et des ténèbres; et allant çà et là, il cherchait qui lui donnât la main.
Now, therefore, lo! the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun, until a fitting time. And, instantly, there fell upon him a mist and darkness; and, going about, he was seeking such as might lead him by the hand.
12 Alors le proconsul voyant ce fait, crut, admirant la doctrine du Seigneur.
Then, the proconsul, seeing what had happened, believed, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.
13 Paul et ceux qui étaient avec lui, s’étant embarqués à Paphos, vinrent à Perge de Pamphylie. Mais Jean, se séparant d’eux, s’en retourna à Jérusalem.
And, setting sail from Paphos, Paul’s company came into Perga of Pamphylia; but, John, withdrawing from them, returned unto Jerusalem.
14 Mais eux, passant au-delà de Perge, vinrent à Antioche de Pisidie, et, étant entrés dans la synagogue le jour du sabbat, ils s’assirent.
They, however, passing through from Perga, arrived at Antioch of Pisidia; and, going into the synagogue on the sabbath-day, sat down.
15 Après la lecture de la loi et des prophètes, les chefs de la synagogue envoyèrent vers eux, disant: Hommes, nos frères, si vous avez quelque exhortation à faire au peuple, parlez.
And, after the reading of the law and the prophets, the synagogue-rulers sent unto them, saying—Brethren! if there is in you a word of exhortation unto the people, say on.
16 Alors Paul se levant, et de la main commandant le silence, dit: Hommes d’Israël, et vous qui craignez Dieu, écoutez:
And Paul, standing up, and making a sign with his hand, said—Ye men of Israel! and such as revere God! hearken: —
17 Le Dieu du peuple d’Israël a choisi nos pères, et a exalté ce peuple lorsqu’il habitait dans la terre d’Egypte, et, le bras levé, il l’en a retiré.
The God of this people Israel, chose our fathers, and, the people, he exalted, by their sojourn in the land of Egypt, —and, with a high arm, brought he them out of it;
18 Et pendant une durée de quarante ans, il supporta sa conduite dans le désert.
And, for the time of about forty years, bare with their manners in the desert;
19 Puis, ayant détruit sept nations dans le pays de Chanaan, il lui en partagea la terre par le sort,
And, overthrowing seven nations in the land of Canaan, gave them their land as an inheritance—about four hundred and fifty years.
20 Après environ quatre cent cinquante ans; et ensuite, il leur donna des juges jusqu’au prophète Samuel.
And, after these things, he gave them judges, until Samuel the prophet.
21 Alors ils demandèrent un roi, et Dieu leur donna Saül, fils de Cis, de la tribu de Benjamin, pendant quarante ans;
And, from that time, they asked for themselves a king, and God gave them Saul, son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, during forty years;
22 Puis l’ayant ôté, il leur suscita pour roi David, à qui il rendit témoignage, disant: J’ai trouvé David, fils de Jessé, homme selon mon cœur, qui fera toutes mes volontés.
And, setting him aside, raised up, David, unto them for king, —of whom he also said, bearing witness—I have found David, the son of Jesse, —[a man] according to my heart, who will do all my will.
23 C’est de sa postérité que Dieu, selon sa promesse, a suscité à Israël le Sauveur Jésus,
From this man’s seed, hath God, according to promise, brought unto Israel, a saviour—Jesus:
24 Jean, avant sa venue, ayant prêché le baptême de pénitence à tout le peuple d’Israël.
John, beforehand proclaiming, before the face of his coming in, an immersion of repentance, unto all the people of Israel.
25 Et lorsque Jean achevait sa course, il disait: Je ne suis pas celui que vous pensez; mais voilà que vient après moi celui dont je ne suis pas digne de délier la chaussure.
And, as John was fulfilling his course, he was saying—Whom are ye supposing that I am? I, am not he! But lo! there cometh, after me, one of whom I am not worthy, the sandals of his feet, to loosen.
26 Hommes, mes frères, fils de la race d’Abraham, c’est à vous, et à ceux qui parmi vous craignent Dieu, que la parole de ce salut a été envoyée.
Brethren! sons of the race of Abraham, and those who among you revere God, —unto you, hath this word of salvation been sent forth.
27 Car ceux qui habitaient Jérusalem, et leurs chefs, le méconnaissant et ne comprenant pas les paroles qui sont lues à chaque sabbat, ils les ont accomplies en le condamnant;
For, they who were dwelling in Jerusalem, and their rulers, not recognising him, have, by judging him, fulfilled, the very voices of the prophets which every sabbath are being read;
28 Et, ne trouvant en lui aucune cause de mort, ils demandèrent à Pilate de le faire mourir.
And, though no single cause of death they found, yet claimed they of Pilate that he should be slain.
29 Et après qu’ils eurent consommé tout ce qui était écrit de lui, le descendant du bois, ils le mirent dans un sépulcre.
And, when they had finished all those things which, concerning him, had been written, taking him down from the tree, they put him in a tomb.
30 Mais Dieu l’a ressuscité des morts le troisième jour, et pendant un grand nombre de jours il a été vu de ceux
But, God, raised him from among the dead:
31 Qui étaient montés avec lui de Galilée à Jérusalem, et qui sont maintenant ses témoins devant le peuple.
Who appeared, during many days, unto them who had come up with him from Galilee unto Jerusalem; who, indeed, [now] are his witnesses unto the people.
32 Et nous, nous vous annonçons que la promesse qui a été faite à nos pères,
We, therefore, unto you, bring the good news, as to the promise which, unto our fathers, was made, —
33 Dieu l’a tenue à nos fils, ressuscitant Jésus, comme il est écrit dans le deuxième psaume: Vous êtes mon fils, je vous ai engendré aujourd’hui.
That God hath fulfilled, the same, for our children, by raising up Jesus: as also, in the second psalm, it is written—My son, art, thou: I, this day, have begotten thee.
34 Et qu’il l’ait ressuscité d’entre les morts, pour ne plus retourner à la corruption, c’est ce qu’il a dit par ces paroles: Je vous tiendrai les promesses sacrées faites à David, promesses inviolables.
And, in that he raised him from among the dead, no more destined to return unto corruption, on this wise hath he spoken—I will give unto you the faithful lovingkindnesses of David.
35 Et ailleurs encore il dit: Vous ne permettrez point que votre Saint voie la corruption.
Wherefore also, in a different [place], he saith—Thou wilt not give thy man of lovingkindness to see corruption.
36 Car David, après avoir servi en son temps aux desseins de Dieu, s’endormit; il fut déposé près de ses pères, et vit la corruption.
For, David, indeed, unto his own generation having done service, by the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was added unto fathers, and saw corruption;
37 Mais celui que Dieu a ressuscité d’entre les morts, n’a point vu la corruption.
But, he whom God hath raised, did not see corruption.
38 Qu’il soit donc connu de vous, mes frères, que c’est par lui que la rémission des péchés vous est annoncée; et toutes les choses dont vous n’avez pu être justifiés par la loi de Moïse,
Be it known unto you, therefore, brethren, —that, through this man, unto you, remission of sins is declared;
39 Quiconque croit en lui, en est justifié par lui.
And, from all things from which ye could not, by the law of Moses, be justified, by this man, everyone that believeth, is justified.
40 Prenez donc garde que ne vienne sur vous ce qui est dit dans les prophètes:
Be taking heed, therefore, lest that come upon you which hath been spoken in the prophets—
41 Voyez, contempteurs, admirez et anéantissez-vous; car je fais une œuvre en vos jours, une œuvre que vous ne croirez pas, si on vous la raconte.
See, ye despisers, and marvel, and disappear: in that, a work, am, I, working in your days, —a work, which in nowise will ye believe, though one relate it in full unto you.
42 Lorsqu’ils sortaient de la synagogue, on les priait de parler, le sabbat suivant, sur le même sujet.
And, as they were going out, they kept on beseeching that, on the ensuing sabbath, might be spoken unto them these things.
43 Et quand l’assemblée se fut séparée, beaucoup de Juifs et de prosélytes servant Dieu, suivirent Paul et Barnabé qui, leur parlant, les exhortaient à persévérer dans la grâce de Dieu.
And, when the congregation was broken up, there followed many of the Jews, and of the devout proselytes, with Paul and Barnabas; who, indeed, in speaking unto them, went on persuading them to abide in the favour of God.
44 Or, le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville s’assembla pour entendre la parole de Dieu.
And, on the coming sabbath, almost all the city, was gathered together, to hear the word of God.
45 Mais, voyant cette foule, les Juifs furent remplis de colère, et, blasphémant, ils contredisaient les paroles de Paul.
But, the Jews, seeing, the multitudes, were filled with jealousy, —and began speaking against the things which, by Paul, were being spoken, defaming them.
46 Alors Paul et Barnabé dirent hardiment: C’était à vous qu’il fallait d’abord annoncer la parole de Dieu; mais puisque vous la rejetez, et que vous vous jugez indignes de la vie éternelle, voilà que nous nous tournons vers les gentils; (aiōnios g166)
And Paul and Barnabas, speaking boldly, said—Unto you, was it necessary, that the word of God should first be spoken: seeing ye are thrusting it from you, and, unworthy, are judging yourselves of the age-abiding life, lo! we turn unto the nations; (aiōnios g166)
47 Car le Seigneur nous l’a commandé en ces termes: Je t’ai établi la lumière des gentils, afin que tu sois leur salut jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre.
For so hath the Lord commanded us—I have set thee for a light of nations, that thou mayest be for salvation unto the end of the earth.
48 Ce qu’entendant, les gentils se réjouirent, et ils glorifiaient la parole de Dieu; et tous ceux qui étaient préordonnés à la vie éternelle embrassèrent la foi. (aiōnios g166)
And they of the nations, hearing [this], began to rejoice, and to be glorifying God, and they believed—as many as had become disposed for life age-abiding. (aiōnios g166)
49 Ainsi la parole du Seigneur se répandait par toute la contrée.
And the word of the Lord went on to be carried through the whole country.
50 Mais les Juifs ayant animé les femmes dévotes et de qualité, et les principaux de la ville, excitèrent une persécution contre Paul et Barnabé, et les chassèrent du pays.
But, the Jews, urged on the devout women of the higher class, and the chief men of the city, and roused up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, —and thrust them out from their bounds.
51 Alors ceux-ci, ayant secoué contre eux la poussière de leurs pieds, vinrent à Icone.
But they, shaking off the dust of their feet against them, came into Iconium.
52 Cependant les disciples étaient remplis de joie et de l’Esprit-Saint.
And, the disciples, were filled with joy, and with Holy Spirit.
