2 Timothée 1

1 Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, selon la promesse de vie, qui est dans le Christ Jésus;

Paul an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus,

2 À Timothée, son fils bien-aimé, grâce, miséricorde, paix par Dieu le Père et par le Christ Jésus Notre Seigneur.

to Timothy my beloved son, grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 Je rends grâces à Dieu, qu’à l’exemple de mes ancêtres, je sers avec une conscience pure, de ce que, nuit et jour, je fais

I give thanks to God, whom I serve as my forefathers did, with a pure conscience, having remembrance of thee continually in my prayers night and day;

4 Désirant, au souvenir de tes larmes, te voir, pour être rempli de joie;

greatly desiring to see thee, (for I remember thy tears, ) that I may be filled with joy:

5 Rappelant en ma mémoire cette foi non feinte, qui est en toi, et qui a été premièrement dans ton aïeule Loïde, et dans ta mère Eunice, et qui, j’en ai la certitude, est aussi en toi.

keeping in memory the unfeigned faith, that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice: and I am persuaded that it dwells in thee also;

6 C’est pourquoi je t’engage à ranimer la grâce de Dieu, qui est en toi par l’imposition de mes mains.

for which cause I remind thee to stir up the gift of God which is in thee through the imposition of my hands.

7 Car Dieu ne nous a pas donné un esprit de crainte, mais de force, d’amour et de modération.

For God hath not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but of vigor, and of love, and of prudence.

8 Ne rougis donc point du témoignage de Noire Seigneur, ni de moi son captif; mais prends part aux travaux de l’Evangile, selon la puissance de Dieu,

Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but bear thy part in the afflictions of the gospel, according to the power of God;

9 Qui nous a délivrés, et nous a appelés par sa vocation sainte, non selon nos œuvres, mais selon son décret et la grâce qui nous a été donnée dans le Christ Jésus avant le commencement des siècles, (aiōnios g166)

who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose, and grace bestowed upon us through Christ Jesus, before the world was, (aiōnios g166)

10 Et qui a été manifestée maintenant par l’apparition de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ qui a détruit la mort, et fait luire la vie et l’incorruptibilité par l’Evangile.

but now made manifest by the appearance of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light by the gospel: for which I was appointed an herald,

11 C’est pourquoi j’ai été établi moi-même prédicateur, apôtre et maître des nations.

and an apostle, and a teacher of the gentiles:

12 Et c’est pour cela aussi que j’endure ces souffrances; mais je n’en rougis point. Car je sais à qui je me suis confié, et je suis sûr qu’il est puissant pour garder mon dépôt jusqu’à ce jour.

for which cause also I suffer these things; but I am not ashamed: for I know in whom I have trusted, and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him against that day.

13 Prends pour modèle les saines paroles que tu as entendues de moi dans la foi et l’amour qui est en Jésus-Christ.

Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

14 Conserve le précieux dépôt, par l’Esprit-Saint qui habite eu nous.

The good thing committed to thee keep, through the Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us.

15 Tu sais que tous ceux qui sont en Asie m’ont abandonné; de ce nombre sont Phigelle et Hermogène.

Thou knowest that all those of Asia are turned from me, of whom is Phygellus and Hermogenes.

16 Que le Seigneur répande sa miséricorde sur la maison d’Onésiphore, parce qu’il m’a souvent soulagé, et qui] n’a point rougi de mes chaînes;

The Lord shew mercy to the family of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: but when he was at Rome,

17 Mais que, lorsqu’il est venu à Rome, il m’a cherché avec beaucoup de soin, et m’a trouvé.

he sought for me the more diligently, and found me.

18 Que le Seigneur lui donne de trouver miséricorde devant lui en ce jour. Car combien de services ne m’a-t-il pas rendus à Ephèse? Tu le sais parfaitement.

(The Lord grant that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day!) And how much he ministered to me at Ephesus too, thou knowest full well.
