2 Samuel 5

1 Et toutes les tribus d’Israël vinrent vers David à Hébron, disant: Nous voici, nous sommes votre os et votre chair.

And all the tribes of Israel went to David in Hebron, saying: “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

2 Mais et hier et avant-hier, lorsque Saül était roi sur nous, vous meniez et rameniez Israël; mais le Seigneur vous a dit: C’est toi qui seras le pasteur de mon peuple Israël, et c’est toi qui seras chef sur Israël.

Moreover, yesterday and the day before, when Saul was king over us, you were the one leading out and leading back Israel. Then the Lord said to you, ‘You shall pasture my people Israel, and you shall be the leader over Israel.’”

3 Et les vieillards d’Israël vinrent aussi vers le roi à Hébron, et le roi David fit alliance avec eux à Hébron devant le Seigneur, et ils oignirent David roi sur Israël.

Also, the elders of Israel went to the king at Hebron, and king David struck a pact with them at Hebron in the sight of the Lord. And they anointed David as king over Israel.

4 David était âgé de trente ans, lorsqu’il commença à régner, et il régna quarante ans.

David was a son of thirty years, when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for forty years.

5 À Hébron, il régna sur Juda sept ans et six mois; mais à Jérusalem, il régna trente-trois ans sur tout Israël et Juda.

In Hebron, he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months. Then in Jerusalem, he reigned for thirty-three years over all of Israel and Judah.

6 Et le roi s’en alla, et tous ceux qui étaient avec lui, à Jérusalem, contre les Jébuséens, habitants du pays: et ceux-ci dirent à David: Vous n’entrerez pas ici, à moins que vous n’enleviez les aveugles et les boiteux, disant par là: David n’entrera pas ici.

And the king, and all the men who were with him, went away to Jerusalem, to the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land. And it was said to David by them, “You shall not enter here, unless you will take away the blind and the lame, who say, ‘David shall not enter here.’”

7 Mais David prit la citadelle de Sion, qui est la cité de David.

But David seized the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.

8 Car David avait proposé en ce jour-là une récompense à celui qui battrait les Jébuséens, toucherait les gouttières des toits, et enlèverait les aveugles et les boiteux, haïssant l’âme de David. C’est pourquoi l’on dit en proverbe: Un aveugle et un boiteux n’entreront point dans le temple.

For David had proposed, on that day, a reward to him who had struck the Jebusites and who had reached to the gutters of the rooftops, and who had taken away the blind and the lame that hated the soul of David. Therefore, it is said in the proverb, “The blind and the lame shall not enter into the temple.”

9 Or, David habita dans la citadelle, et il l’appela Cité de David; et il bâtit tout autour, depuis Mello et au dedans.

Then David lived in the stronghold, and he called it: the City of David. And he built it up on all sides, from Millo and inward.

10 Et il allait, avançant et croissant; et le Seigneur Dieu des armées était avec lui.

And he advanced, prospering and increasing, and the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him.

11 Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya aussi des messagers à David, des bois de cèdre, des charpentiers et des tailleurs de pierres pour les murailles; et ils bâtirent une maison à David.

Also, Hiram, the king of Tyre, sent messengers to David, with cedar wood, and with builders of wood and builders of stone, in order to make walls. And they built a house for David.

12 Et David connut que le Seigneur l’avait confirmé roi sur Israël, et qu’il avait élevé son royaume sur son peuple Israël.

And David knew that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom over his people Israel.

13 David prit donc encore des femmes du second et du premier rang de Jérusalem, après qu’il fut venu d’Hébron; et il naquit à David d’autres fils et des filles;

Then David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he had arrived from Hebron. And other sons as well as daughters were born to David.

14 Et voici les noms de ceux qui lui naquirent à Jérusalem: Samua, Sobab, Nathan, Salomon,

And these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

15 Jébaar, Elisua, Népheg,

and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg,

16 Japhia, Elisama, Elioda et Eliphaleth.

and Japhia, and Elishama, and Eliada, and Elipheleth.

17 Les Philistins donc apprirent qu’on avait oint David comme roi sur Israël, et ils montèrent tous pour chercher David; lorsque David l’eut appris, il descendit dans la forteresse.

Then the Philistines heard that they had anointed David as king over Israel. And they all ascended, so that they might seek David. And when David had heard of it, he descended to a stronghold.

18 Or, les Philistins, venant, se répandirent dans la vallée de Raphaïm.

Now the Philistines, arriving, spread themselves out in the Valley of Rephaim.

19 Et David consulta le Seigneur, disant: Monterai-je contre les Philistins, et les mettrez-vous en ma main? Et le Seigneur dit à David: Monte, parce que les livrant, je mettrai les Philistins en ta main.

And David consulted the Lord, saying: “Shall I ascend to the Philistines? And will you give them into my hand?” And the Lord said to David: “Ascend. For I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand.”

20 David donc vint à Baal-Pharasim, et il les battit là, et il dit: Le Seigneur a dispersé mes ennemis devant moi, comme se dispersent les eaux. C’est pour cela que ce lieu fut appelé du nom de Baal-Pharasim.

Therefore, David went to Baal-perazim. And he struck them there. And he said, “The Lord has divided my enemies before me, just as the waters are divided.” Because of this, the name of that place was called Baal-perazim.

21 Et les Philistins laissèrent là leurs images taillées au ciseau, que David et ses hommes emportèrent.

And in that place they left behind their graven images, which David and his men took away.

22 Et les Philistins recommencèrent encore à monter, et ils se répandirent dans la vallée de Raphaïm.

And the Philistines continued still, so that they ascended and spread themselves out in the Valley of Rephaim.

23 Alors David consulta le Seigneur: Monterai-je contre les Philistins, et les livrerez-vous en mes mains? Le Seigneur répondit: Ne monte pas contre eux, mais tourne derrière eux, et tu viendras contre eux vis-à-vis des poiriers.

Then David consulted the Lord, “Shall I ascend against the Philistines, and will you deliver them into my hands?” And he responded: “You shall not ascend against them; instead, circle behind their back. And you shall come to them from the side opposite the balsam trees.

24 Et lorsque tu entendras le bruit de quelqu’un qui marche au haut des poiriers, tu engageras la bataille, parce qu’alors marchera le Seigneur devant ta face pour battre le camp des Philistins.

And when you hear the sound of something going forth from the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall begin the battle. For then the Lord will go forth, before your face, so that he may strike the army of the Philistines.”

25 C’est pourquoi David fit comme lui avait ordonné le Seigneur, et il battit les Philistins depuis Gabaa jusqu’à ce qu’on arrive à Gézer.

And so, David did just as the Lord had instructed him. And he struck down the Philistines, from Gibeon until you arrive at Gezer.
