2 Samuel 4
1 Or, Isboseth, fils de Saül, apprit qu’Abner avait succombé à Hébron, et ses mains perdirent leur force, et tout Israël fut troublé.
When Saul’s son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands became feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.
2 Cependant il y avait deux hommes, chefs de voleurs, auprès du fils de Saül; le nom de l’un était Baana, et le nom de l’autre, Réchab, fils de Remmon, le Bérothite, des fils de Benjamin, puisque Béroth aussi était réputée de Benjamin.
Saul’s son had two men who were captains of raiding bands. The name of one was Baanah and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin (for Beeroth also is considered a part of Benjamin;
3 Et les Bérothites s’enfuirent à Géthaïm, et ils ont été là comme étrangers jusqu’à ce temps-ci.
and the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and have lived as foreigners there until today).
4 Or, Jonathas, fils de Saül, avait un fils, infirme des pieds; il avait cinq ans, quand vint de Jezraël la nouvelle touchant Saül et Jonathas; c’est pourquoi sa nourrice, le prenant, s’enfuit; et, comme elle se hâtait de fuir, il tomba, et devint boiteux; et il eut pour nom Miphiboseth.
Now Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news came about Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel; and his nurse picked him up and fled. As she hurried to flee, he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.
5 Etant donc venus, les fils de Remmon, le Bérothite, Réchab et Baana, entrèrent, à la chaleur du jour, dans la maison d’Isboseth, qui dormait sur son lit à midi; et la portière de la maison, vannant du blé, s’endormit.
The sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went out and came at about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth as he took his rest at noon.
6 Ils entrèrent donc dans la maison secrètement, prenant des épis de froment; et Réchab et son frère le frappèrent à l’aîne, et s’enfuirent,
They came there into the middle of the house as though they would have fetched wheat, and they struck him in the body; and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.
7 Ainsi lorsqu’ils furent entrés dans la maison, Isboseth dormait sur son lit dans sa chambre à coucher; et, le frappant, ils le tuèrent; puis, sa tête enlevée, ils s’en allèrent par la voie du désert, durant toute la nuit,
Now when they came into the house as he lay on his bed in his bedroom, they struck him, killed him, beheaded him, and took his head, and went by the way of the Arabah all night.
8 Et ils apportèrent la tête d’Isboseth à David à Hébron, et ils dirent au roi: Voici la tête d’Isboseth, fils de Saül, votre ennemi, qui cherchait votre âme: et le Seigneur a vengé aujourd’hui mon seigneur le roi de Saül et de sa race.
They brought the head of Ishbosheth to David to Hebron, and said to the king, “Behold, the head of Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life! The LORD has avenged my lord the king today of Saul and of his offspring.”
9 Mais David répondant à Réchab et à Baana son frère, fils de Remmon, le Bérothite, il leur dit: Le Seigneur vit, lui qui a délivré mon âme de toute angoisse!
David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,
10 Celui qui m’avait annoncé et dit: Saül est mort, et qui pensait qu’il annonçait une heureuse nouvelle, je le pris et le tuai à Siceleg, lui à qui il fallait donner une récompense pour son message;
when someone told me, ‘Behold, Saul is dead,’ thinking that he brought good news, I seized him and killed him in Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news.
11 Combien plus maintenant que des hommes impies ont tué l’homme innocent, dans sa maison, sur son lit, demanderai-je son sang à votre main, et vous enlèverai-je de la terre!
How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house on his bed, should I not now require his blood from your hand, and rid the earth of you?”
12 C’est pourquoi David ordonna à ses serviteurs, et ils les tuèrent; et coupant leurs mains et leurs pieds, ils les suspendirent! à la piscine, à Hébron; mais la tête d’Isboseth, ils la prirent et l’ensevelirent dans le sépulcre d’Abner à Hébron.
David commanded his young men, and they killed them, cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth and buried it in Abner’s grave in Hebron.
