2 Samuel 23

1 Mais voici les dernières paroles de David. David, fils d’Isaï, a parlé; l’homme institué le christ du Dieu de Jacob, l’excellent psalmiste d’Israël, a dit:

And these [are] the last words of David. Faithful [is] David the son of Jessae, and faithful the man whom the Lord raised up to be the anointed of the God of Jacob, and beautiful [are] the psalms of Israel.

2 L’Esprit du Seigneur s’est fait entendre par moi, et sa parole par ma langue.

The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, and his word [was] upon my tongue.

3 Le Dieu d’Israël m’a dit: le Fort d’Israël a parlé: le dominateur des hommes, le juste dominateur dans la crainte de Dieu sera

The God of Israel says, A watchman out of Israel spoke to me a parable: I said among men, How will you strengthen the fear of the anointed?

4 Comme la lumière de l’aurore, qui, au soleil levant, le matin, brille sans nuages, et comme l’herbe qui germe de la terre par les pluies.

And in the morning light of God, let the sun arise in the morning, from the light of which the Lord passed on, and as it were from the rain of the tender grass upon the earth.

5 Et ma maison n’était pas si grande devant Dieu, pour qu’il fit avec moi un pacte éternel, ferme en toutes choses et assuré; car ce pacte est tout mon salut et toute ma volonté; et rien n’en provient qui ne porte ses fruits.

For my house [is] not so with the Mighty One: for he has made an everlasting covenant with me, ready, guarded at every time; for all my salvation and all my desire [is], that the wicked should not flourish.

6 Mais les prévaricateurs seront extirpés tous comme des épines que l’on n’arrache pas avec les mains.

All these [are] as a thorn thrust forth, for they shall not be taken with the hand,

7 Et si quelqu’un veut les toucher, il s’arme de fer, et d’un bois de lance, et brûlées par le feu, elles sont consumées jusqu’à néant.

and a man shall not labor among them; and [one shall have] that which is fully armed with iron, and the staff of a spear, an he shall burn them with fire, and they shall be burnt in their shame.

8 Voici le nom des braves de David. Celui qui était assis dans la chaire, le plus sage, le premier entre les trois; c’est lui qui, comme le petit ver le plus tendre du bois, tua huit cents hommes en une seule fois.

These [are] the names of the mighty men of David: Jebosthe the Chananite is a captain of the third [part]: Adinon the Asonite, he drew his sword against eight hundred soldiers at once.

9 Après lui, Éléazar, Ahohite, fils de son oncle paternel, était entre les trois braves qui étaient avec David, lorsqu’ils insultèrent les Philistins, et qu’ils s’assemblèrent en ce lieu pour le combat.

And after him Eleanan the son of his uncle, son of Dudi who was among the three mighty men with David; and when he defied the Philistines they were gathered there to war, and the men of Israel went up.

10 Et lorsque les hommes d’Israël eurent monté, lui se présenta, et battit les Philistins, jusqu’à ce que sa main se lassât et demeurât attachée à son glaive; et le Seigneur donna une grande victoire à Israël en ce jour-là, et le peuple, qui avait fui, retourna pour enlever les dépouilles des morts.

He arose an struck the Philistines, until his hand was weary, and his hand clave to the sword: and the Lord wrought a great salvation in that day, and the people rested behind him only to strip [the slain].

11 Et après lui venait Semma, fils d’Agé, d’Arari. Et les Philistins s’assemblèrent au poste; car il y avait là un champ plein de lentilles. Et lorsque le peuple se fut enfui devant les Philistins,

And after him Samaia the son of Asa the Arachite: and the Philistines were gathered to Theria; and there was there a portion of ground full of lentiles; and the people fled before the Philistines.

12 Semma se tint au milieu du champ, le défendit et battit les Philistins; et le Seigneur accorda une grande victoire.

And he stood firm in the midst of the portion, and rescued it, and struck the Philistines; and the Lord wrought a great deliverance.

13 Et déjà auparavant étaient descendus les trois qui étaient les premiers entre les trente, et ils étaient venus au temps de la moisson vers David, dans la caverne d’Odollam; mais le camp des Philistins était placé dans la Vallée des Géants.

And three out of the thirty went down, and came to Cason to David, to the cave of Odollam; and [there was] an army of the Philistines, and they encamped in the valley of Raphain.

14 Et David était dans la forteresse; mais l’armée des Philistins était alors à Bethléhem.

And David [was] then in the strong hold, and the garrison of the Philistines [was] then in Bethleem.

15 David donc fit un souhait, et dit: Oh! si quelqu’un me donnait à boire de l’eau de la citerne qui est à Bethléhem, près de la porte:

And David longed, and said, Who will give me water to drink out of the well that is in Bethleem by the gate? now the band of the Philistines [was] then in Bethleem.

16 Les trois braves passèrent donc à travers le camp des Philistins, et puisèrent de l’eau dans la citerne de Bethléhem qui était près de la porte, et l’apportèrent à David; et David n’en voulut pas boire, mais il l’offrit en libations au Seigneur,

And the three mighty men broke through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well that was in Bethleem in the gate: and they took it, and brought it to David, and he would not drink it, but poured it out before the Lord.

17 Disant: Que le Seigneur me soit propice, pour que je ne fasse pas cela: boirai-je le sang de ces hommes qui sont allés la chercher, et le péril de leurs âmes? Il ne voulut donc pas boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois hommes très vigoureux.

And he said, O Lord, forbid that I should do this, that I should drink of the blood of the men who went at [the risk of] their lives: and he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

18 Abisaï aussi, frère de Joab, fils de Sarvia, était le premier de trois autres: c’est lui qui leva sa lance contre trois cents, qu’il tua: il était renommé parmi ces trois,

And Abessa the brother of Joab the son of Saruia, he [was] chief among the three, and he lifted up his spear against three hundred whom he killed; and he had a name among three.

19 Et le plus noble d’entre ces trois, et leur chef; mais il n’atteignait pas les premiers.

Of those three [he was] most honorable, and he became a chief over them, but he reached not to the [first] three.

20 Ensuite Banaïas de Cabséel, fils de Joïada, homme très vaillant, et aux grands exploits; c’est lui qui tua les deux lions de Moab, et lui qui descendit et tua le lion au milieu de la citerne, dans les jours de la neige.

And Banaeas the son of Jodae, he was abundant in [mighty] deeds, from Cabeseel, and he struck the two sons of Ariel of Moab: and he went down and struck a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day.

21 C’est lui qui tua l’Egyptien: homme digne d’être en spectacle et ayant en main une lance; c’est pourquoi, lorsqu’il fut descendu vers lui avec sa verge, il arracha de force la lance de la main de l’Egyptien, et le tua de sa lance.

He struck an Egyptian, a wonderful man, and in the hand of the Egyptian [was] a spear as the side of a ladder; and he went down to him with a staff, and snatched the spear from the Egyptian's hand, and killed him with his own spear.

22 Voilà ce que fit Banaïas, fils de Joïada.

These things did Banaeas the son of Jodae, and he had a name among the three mighty men.

23 Et il était renommé entre les trois vaillants les plus nobles entre les trente; cependant il n’atteignait pas les trois premiers; et David le fit son conseiller intime.

He was honorable among the [second] three, but he reached not to the [first] three: and David made him his reporter. And these [are] the names of King David's mighty men.

24 Asaël, frère de Joab, était entre les trente; Eléhanan de Bethléhem, fils de l’oncle paternel d’Asaël;

Asael Joab's brother; he [was] among the thirty. Eleanan son of Dudi his uncle in Bethleem.

25 Semma de Harodi, Elica de Harodi,

Saema the Rudaean.

26 Hélès de Phalti, Hira, fils d’Accès de Thécua;

Selles the Kelothite: Iras the son of Isca the Thecoite.

27 Abiézer d’Anathoth, Mobonnaï de Husati,

Abiezer the Anothite, of the sons of the Anothite.

28 Selmon, l’Ahohite, Maharaï, le Nétophathite;

Ellon the Aoite; Noere the Netophatite.

29 Héled, fils de Baana, lui aussi Nétophatite, Ithaï, fils de Ribaï de Gabaath des enfants de Benjamin;

Esthai the son of Riba of Gabaeth, son of Benjamin the Ephrathite; Asmoth the Bardiamite; Emasu the Salabonite:

30 Banaï, le Pharathonite, Heddaï du torrent de Gaas,

Adroi of the brooks.

31 Abialbon, l’Arbathite, Azmaveth de Béromi,

Gadabiel son of the Arabothaeite.

32 Eliaba de Salaboni. Les fils de Jassen, Jonathan,

the sons of Asan, Jonathan;

33 Semma d’Orori; Ahiam, fils de Sarar, l’Arorite;

Samnan the Arodite; Amnan the son of Arai the Saraurite.

34 Eliphélet, fils d’Aasbaï, fils de Machati; Eliam, fils d’Achitophel, le Gélonite,

Aliphaleth the son of Asbites, the son of the Machachachite; Eliab the son of Achitophel the Gelonite.

35 Hesraï du Carmel, Pharaï d’Arbi,

Asarai the Carmelite the son of Uraeoerchi.

36 Igaal, fils de Nathan de Soba, Bonni de Gadi,

Gaal the son of Nathana. The son of much valour, [the son] of Galaaddi. Elie the Ammanite.

37 Sélec d’Ammoni, Naharaï, le Bérothite, écuyer de Joab, fils de Sarvia,

Gelore the Bethorite, armor-bearer to Joab, son of Saruia.

38 Ira, le Jéthrite, Gareb, lui aussi Jéthrite,

Iras the Ethirite. Gerab the Ethenite.

39 Urie, l’Héthéen. En tout trente-sept.

Urias the Chettite: thirty-seven in all.
