2 Samuel 21
1 Il y eut aussi une famine, dans les jours de David, pendant trois ans continuels: et David consulta l’oracle du Seigneur. Et le Seigneur dit: C’est à cause de Saül et de sa maison de sang, parce qu’il a tué les Gabaonites.
And there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David besought the presence of the Lord. And the Lord said, On account of Saul, and on account of the house of blood, is this; because he hath slain the Gib'onites.
2 Les Gabaonites donc appelés, le roi leur dit (or, les Gabaonites n’étaient point des enfants d’Israël, mais les restes des Amorrhéens; car les enfants d’Israël leur avaient fait serment, et Saül voulut les frapper par zèle, comme pour les enfants d’Israël et de Juda);
And the king called for the Gib'onites, and said unto them: [now the Gib'onites are not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Emorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them; but Saul had sought to slay them in his zeal for the children of Israel in Judah: ]
3 David donc dit aux Gabaonites: Que ferai-je pour vous, et quelle sera la réparation envers vous, afin que vous bénissiez l’héritage du Seigneur?
Wherefore David said unto the Gib'onites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the Lord?
4 Et les Gabaonites lui répondirent: Ce n’est pas pour nous une question d’argent et d’or, mais une question contre Saül et contre sa maison; et nous ne voulons pas qu’aucun homme d’Israël soit tué. Le roi leur dit: Que voulez-vous donc que je fasse pour vous?
And the Gib'onites said unto him, We have no concern of silver or gold with Saul and with his house: nor do we wish to kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye say, will I do for you.
5 Ils dirent au roi: Nous devons tellement exterminer l’homme qui nous a brisés et opprimés injustement, qu’il ne reste pas même un seul de sa race dans tous les confins d’Israël.
And they said to the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed, so that we should have no footing in all the boundaries of Israel.
6 Que sept hommes de ses fils nous soient donnés, afin que nous les crucifiions au Seigneur à Gabaa de Saül, autrefois l’élu du Seigneur. Et le roi dit: Oui, je vous les donnerai.
Let there be delivered unto us seven men of his sons, and we will hang them up unto the Lord in Gib'ah of Saul, the chosen of the Lord. And the king said, I will give them.
7 Et le roi épargna Miphiboseth, fils de Jonathas, fils de Saül, à cause du serment du Seigneur qui avait été fait entre David et Jonathas, fils de Saül.
But the king had pity on Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the Lord's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
8 C’est pourquoi le roi prit les deux fils de Respha, fille d’Aïa, qu’elle avait enfantés à Saül, Armoni et Miphiboseth, et les cinq fils de Michol, fille de Saül, qu’elle avait engendrés à Hadriel, fils de Berzellaï, lequel était de Molath;
And the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Ayah, whom she had born unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she had brought up for 'Adriel the son of Barzillai the Mecholathite:
9 Et il les livra aux mains des Gabaonites, qui les crucifièrent sur la montagne, devant le Seigneur; et ces sept hommes tombèrent morts ensemble dans les premiers jours de la moisson, la moisson de l’orge commençant.
And he delivered them into the hand of the Gib'onites, and they hanged them on the mount before the Lord; and they fell, these seven, together; and they were put to death in the first days of harvest, in the beginning of the barley-harvest.
10 Or, Respha, fille d’Aïa, prenant son cilice, l’étendit sous elle sur le rocher, depuis le commencement de la moisson jusqu’à ce que l’eau du ciel tombât sur eux; et elle ne laissa pas les oiseaux les déchirer pendant le jour, ni les bêtes sauvages pendant la nuit.
And Rizpah the daughter of Ayah took sackcloth, and spread out it for herself upon the rock, from the beginning of the harvest until water dropped down upon them out of heaven, and she suffered neither the birds of heaven to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
11 Et l’on annonça à David ce que Respha, fille d’Aïa, femme du second rang de Saül, avait fait.
And it was told to David what Rizpah the daughter of Ayah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
12 Et David s’en alla, et prit les os de Saül et de Jonathas, son fils, chez les hommes de Jabès-Galaad, qui les avaient enlevés furtivement de la place de Bethsan, où les Philistins les avaient suspendus, lorsqu’on eut tué Saül à Gelboé;
And David then went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Yabeshgil'ad, who had stolen them from the market-place of Bethshan, where the Philistines had hanged them up, at the time the Philistines had smitten Saul at Gilboa':
13 Et il apporta de là les os de Saül et les os de Jonathas, son fils; et, recueillant les os de ceux qui avaient été attachés à une croix,
And he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered up the bones of those that had been hanged.
14 On les ensevelit avec les os de Saül et de Jonathas, son fils, dans la terre de Benjamin, sur un côté, dans le sépulcre de Cis, son père; et on fit tout ce que le roi avait ordonné; et Dieu redevint propice à la terre après cela.
And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin at Zela', in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king had commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.
15 Or il se fit de nouveau une guerre des Philistins contre Israël, et David descendit et ses serviteurs avec lui, et ils combattirent contre les Philistins. Or, David défaillant,
And the Philistines had again a war with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David became fatigued.
16 Jesbibénob, qui était de la race d’Arapha, dont le fer de la hache pesait trois cents onces, et qui était ceint d’un glaive neuf, s’efforça de frapper David.
And Yishbi at Nob, who was of the children of the Raphah, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of copper, he being girded with a new armor, thought to slay David.
17 Mais Abisaï, fils de Sarvia, le défendit, et ayant frappé le Philistin, le tua. Alors les serviteurs de David jurèrent, disant: Maintenant vous ne sortirez plus avec nous à la guerre, afin que vous n’éteigniez pas la lampe d’Israël.
But Abishai the son of Zeruyah succored him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then swore the men of David unto him, saying, Thou shalt go out no more with us to battle, that thou mayest not quench the lamp of Israel.
18 Et la seconde guerre fut à Gob, contre les Philistins; alors Sobochaï de Husati tua Saph, de la descendance d’Arapha, de la race des géants.
And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle at Gob, with the Philistines: then smote Sibbechai the Chushathite Saph, who was of the children of the Raphah.
19 La troisième guerre fut aussi à Gob, contre les Philistins, en laquelle Adéodatus, fils de Saltus, tisseur en diverses couleurs, Bethléhémite, tua Goliath, le Géthéen, dont la hampe de la lance était comme un ensouple de tisserands.
And there was again a battle at Gob with the Philistines, when Elchanan the son of Ya'are-oregim, the Bethlechemite, slew Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
20 Une quatrième guerre fut à Geth, en laquelle était un homme très grand, qui avait six doigts en ses mains et en ses pieds, c’est-à-dire vingt-quatre et il tirait son origine d’Arapha.
And there was again a battle in Gath, where was a man of [great] stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, [in all] four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the Raphah.
21 Et il blasphéma Israël; mais Jonathan, fils de Samaa, le frère de David, le tua.
And he defied Israel; but Jonathan the son of Shim'ah, the brother of David, slew him.
22 Ces quatre hommes étaient nés d’Arapha, à Geth, et ils tombèrent sous la main de David et de ses serviteurs.
These four were born to the Raphah in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
