2 Samuel 2
1 Et après cela David consulta le Seigneur, disant: Est-ce que je monterai dans une des villes de Juda? Et le Seigneur lui dit: Monte. Alors David demanda: Où monterai-je? Et le Seigneur lui répondit: À Hébron.
After this, Dauid asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go vp into any of the cities of Iudah? And the Lord sayd vnto him, Goe vp. And Dauid sayd Whither shall I goe? Hee then answered, Vnto Hebron.
2 David donc monta, et ses deux femmes Achinoam, Jezraélite, et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal du Carmel.
So Dauid went vp thither, and his two wiues also, Ahinoam the Izreelite, and Abigail Nabals wife the Carmelite.
3 Mais David mena aussi les hommes qui étaient avec lui, chacun avec sa maison; et ils demeurèrent dans les villes d’Hébron.
And Dauid brought vp the men that were with him, euery man with his houshold, and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
4 Alors vinrent les hommes de Juda, et ils oignirent là David, afin qu’il régnât sur la maison de Juda. Et on annonça à David que les hommes de Jabès-Galaad avaient enseveli Saül.
Then the men of Iudah came, and there they anoynted Dauid King ouer the house of Iudah. And they tolde Dauid, saying, that the men of Iabesh Gilead buried Saul.
5 David donc envoya des messagers aux hommes de Jabès-Galaad, et leur dit: Bénis soyez du Seigneur, vous qui avez fait cette miséricorde à votre seigneur Saül, et l’avez enseveli!
And Dauid sent messengers vnto the men of Iabesh Gilead, and said vnto them, Blessed are ye of the Lord, that yee haue shewed such kindenes vnto your lord Saul, that you haue buried him.
6 Et maintenant le Seigneur vous rendra miséricorde et fidélité; mais moi aussi je vous rendrai grâces de ce que vous avez fait cette action.
Therefore now the Lord shewe mercie and trueth vnto you: and I will recompence you this benefite, because ye haue done this thing.
7 Que vos mains se fortifient, et soyez des fils de courage; car, quoique votre seigneur Saül soit mort, néanmoins la maison de Juda m’a oint pour son roi.
Therefore nowe let your handes be strong, and be you valiant: albeit your master Saul bee dead, yet neuerthelesse the house of Iudah hath anoynted me King ouer them.
8 Mais Abner, fils de Ner, prince de l’armée de Saül, prit Isboseth, fils de Saül, et lui fit parcourir le camp.
But Abner the sonne of Ner that was captaine of Sauls hoste, tooke Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and brought him to Mahanaim,
9 Et il l’établit roi sur Galaad, sur Gessuri, sur Jezraël, sur Ephraïm, sur Benjamin et sur tout Israël.
And made him King ouer Gilead, and ouer the Ashurites, and ouer Izreel, and ouer Ephraim, and ouer Beniamin, and ouer al Israel.
10 Isboseth, fils de Saül, avait quarante ans, lorsqu’il commença à régner sur Israël, et il régna deux ans; mais la seule maison de Juda suivait David.
Ish-bosheth Sauls sonne was fourtie yeere olde when he began to reigne ouer Israel, and reigned two yeere: but the house of Iudah followed Dauid.
11 Et le nombre des jours que David demeura, régnant à Hébron sur la maison de Juda, fut de sept ans et six mois.
(And the time which Dauid reigned in Hebron ouer the house of Iudah, was seuen yeere and sixe moneths)
12 Et Abner, fils de Ner, sortit du camp, et les serviteurs d’Isboseth, fils de Saül, pour venir à Gabaon.
And Abner the sonne of Ner, and the seruantes of Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul went out of Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13 Mais Joab, fils de Sarvia, et les serviteurs de David sortirent, et les rencontrèrent près de la piscine de Gabaon. Et lorsqu’ils se furent assemblés, ils se postèrent en droite ligne, ceux-ci d’un côté de la piscine, et ceux-là de l’autre.
And Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and the seruants of Dauid went out and met one another by the poole of Gibeon: and they sate downe, the one on the one side of the poole, and the other on the otherside of the poole.
14 Alors Abner dit à Joab: Que les jeunes hommes se lèvent, et qu’ils escarmouchent devant nous. Et Joab répondit: Qu’ils se lèvent.
Then Abner saide to Ioab, Let the yong men nowe arise, and play before vs. And Ioab said, Let them arise.
15 Ils se levèrent donc, et ils passèrent au nombre de douze de Benjamin, du côté d’Isboseth, fils de Saül, et de douze d’entre les serviteurs de David.
Then there arose and went ouer twelue of Beniamin by number, which perteined to Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and twelue of the seruants of Dauid.
16 Et chacun, ayant pris par la tête son concurrent, enfonça son glaive dans le côté de son adversaire, et ils tombèrent ensemble; et on appela ce lieu du nom de Champ des forts à Gabaon.
And euery one caught his fellowe by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellowes side, so they fell downe together: wherefore ye place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
17 Et il s’éleva une guerre très violente en ce jour-là; et Abner fut mis en fuite et les hommes d’Israël par les serviteurs de David.
And the battel was exceeding sore that same day: for Abner and the men of Israel fell before the seruants of Dauid.
18 Or étaient là les trois fils de Sarvia, Joab, Abisaï et Asaël; et Asaël fut un coureur très agile, comme un des chevreuils qui demeurent dans les forêts.
And there were three sonnes of Zeruiah there, Ioab, and Abishai, and Asahel. And Asahel was as light on foote as a wilde roe.
19 Aussi Asaël poursuivait Abner, et il ne se détourna ni à droite ni à gauche, ne cessant de poursuivre Abner.
And Asahel followed after Abner, and in going he turned neither to the right hand nor to the left from Abner.
20 C’est pourquoi Abner regarda derrière lui, et dit: Es-tu Asaël, toi? Et il répondit: Oui, je le suis.
Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, Yea.
21 Et Abner lui dit: Va à droite ou à gauche, et saisis un de ces jeunes hommes et prends pour toi ses dépouilles. Mais Asaël ne voulut pas cesser de le poursuivre.
Then Abner said, Turne thee either to the right hande, or to the left, and take one of the yong men, and take thee his weapons: and Asahel would not depart from him.
22 Et Abner parla de nouveau à Asaël: Retire-toi, ne me suis point, pour ne pas que je sois forcé de te percer contre la terre; car je ne pourrai lever ma face du côté de Joab ton frère.
And Abner saide to Asahel, Depart from me: wherefore shoulde I smite thee to the grounde? howe then shoulde I be able to holde vp my face to Ioab thy brother?
23 Asaël dédaigna de l’entendre, et ne voulut pas se détourner. Abner donc, retournant sa lance, le frappa dans l’aîne, le transperça, et il mourut dans le même lieu; et tous ceux qui passaient par ce lieu dans lequel Asaël était tombé et était mort, s’arrêtaient.
And when he woulde not depart, Abner with the hinder ende of the speare smote him vnder the fift ryb, that the speare came out behind him: and he fell downe there, and dyed in his place. And as many as came to the place where Asahel fell downe and dyed, stoode still.
24 Or, Joab et Abisaï poursuivant Abner qui s’enfuyait, le soleil se coucha; et ils vinrent jusqu’à la colline de l’aqueduc, qui est vis-à-vis de la vallée, sur le chemin du désert de Gabaon.
Ioab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sunne went downe, when they were come to the hill Ammah, that lieth before Giah, by the way of the wildernesse of Gibeon.
25 Et les enfants de Benjamin s’assemblèrent auprès d’Abner; et réunis en un seul bataillon, ils s’arrêtèrent sur le haut d’un tertre.
And the children of Beniamin gathered them selues together after Abner, and were on an heape and stoode on the top of an hill.
26 Alors Abner cria à Joab, et dit: Est-ce jusqu’à la dernière extermination que ton glaive tranchant sévira? Ignores-tu que le désespoir est dangereux? Jusqu’à quand ne diras-tu pas au peuple, qu’il cesse de poursuivre ses frères?
Then Abner called to Ioab, and said, Shall the sworde deuoure for euer? knowest thou not, that it will be bitternesse in the latter ende? howe long then shall it be, or thou bid the people returne from following their brethren?
27 Et Joab lui répondit: Le Seigneur vit! si tu avais parlé, ce matin se serait retiré le peuple qui poursuit son frère.
And Ioab sayde, As God liueth, if thou haddest not spoken, surely euen in the morning the people had departed euery one backe from his brother.
28 Joab donc sonna de la trompette, et toute l’armée s’arrêta; et ils ne poursuivirent plus Israël, et ils n’engagèrent pas le combat.
So Ioab blew a trumpet, and all the people stoode still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
29 Or, Abner et ses hommes s’en allèrent à travers les plaines, pendant toute cette nuit-là, et ils passèrent le Jourdain, et, tout Béthoron traversé, ils vinrent au camp.
And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plaine, and went ouer Iorden, and past through all Bithron till they came to Mahanaim.
30 Quant à Joab, étant revenu, après avoir laissé Abner de côté, il assembla tout le peuple; et il manqua des serviteurs de David dix-neuf hommes, sans compter Asaël.
Ioab also returned backe from Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of Dauids seruants nineteene men and Asahel.
31 Mais les serviteurs de David frappèrent de Benjamin et des hommes qui étaient avec Abner trois cent soixante, qui même moururent.
But the seruants of Dauid had smitten of Beniamin, and of Abners men, so that three hundreth and threescore men dyed.
32 Et ils emportèrent Asaël, et l’ensevelirent dans le sépulcre de son père à Bethléhem; et Joab et les hommes qui étaient avec lui marchèrent pendant toute la nuit, et au point du jour ils parvinrent à Hébron.
And they tooke vp Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem: and Ioab and his men went all night, and when they came to Hebron, the day arose.
