2 Samuel 10
1 Or, il arriva après cela que le roi des enfants d’Ammon mourut, et Hanon, son fils, régna en sa place.
After this, the King of the children of Ammon dyed, and Hanun his sonne reigned in his steade.
2 Et David dit: Je ferai miséricorde à Hanon, fils de Naas, comme son père m’a fait miséricorde. David envoya donc, le consolant par ses serviteurs de la mort de son père. Mais lorsque les serviteurs de David furent venus dans la terre des enfants d’Ammon,
Then sayde Dauid, I will shewe kindnesse vnto Hanun the sonne of Nahash, as his father shewed kindnesse vnto me. And Dauid sent his seruantes to comfort him for his father. So Dauids seruants came into the lande of the children of Ammon.
3 Les princes des enfants d’Ammon dirent à Hanon leur seigneur: Pensez-vous que ce soit pour l’honneur de votre père, que David vous ait envoyé des consolateurs, et que ce ne soit pas pour s’enquérir de la ville, l’explorer et la détruire, que David a envoyé ses serviteurs vers vous?
And the princes of the children of Ammon sayde vnto Hanun their lorde, Thinkest thou that Dauid doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters to thee? hath not Dauid rather sent his seruants vnto thee, to search the citie, and to spie it out, and to ouerthrow it?
4 C’est pourquoi Hanon prit les serviteurs de David, rasa la moitié de leur barbe, coupa la moitié de leurs vêtements jusqu’au haut des cuisses, et les renvoya.
Wherefore Hanun tooke Dauids seruants, and shaued off the halfe of their beard, and cut off their garments in the middle, euen to their buttockes, and sent them away.
5 Lorsque cela eut été annoncé à David, il envoya au-devant d’eux; car ces hommes étaient très honteusement confus, et David leur manda: Demeurez à Jéricho jusqu’à ce que votre barbe croisse, et alors revenez.
When it was told vnto Dauid, he sent to meete them (for the men were exceedingly ashamed) and the King sayde, Tary at Iericho, vntill your beards be growen, then returne.
6 Mais les enfants d’Ammon, voyant qu’ils avaient fait injure à David, envoyèrent prendre à leur solde des Syriens de Rohob, et des Syriens de Soba, vingt mille hommes de pied, mille du roi de Maacha, et douze mille d’Istob.
And when the children of Ammon sawe that they stanke in the sight of Dauid, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Aramites of the house of Rehob, and the Aramites of Zoba, twentie thousande footemen, and of King Maacah a thousand men, and of Ish-tob twelue thousande men.
7 Ce qu’ayant appris David, il envoya Joab et toute l’armée de ses guerriers.
And when Dauid heard of it, he sent Ioab, and all the hoste of the strong men.
8 Les enfants d’Ammon sortirent donc, et rangèrent leur armée en bataille devant l’entrée même de la porte, mais les Syriens de Soba et de Rohob, d’Istob et de Maacha, étaient séparément dans la plaine.
And the children of Ammon came out, and put their armie in araye at the entring in of the gate: and the Aramites of Zoba, and of Rehob, and of Ish-tob, and of Maacah were by themselues in the fielde.
9 Joab donc, voyant que la bataille était préparée contre lui et par devant et par derrière, prit de toute l’élite d’Israël, et rangea son armée en bataille contre les Syriens;
When Ioab saw that the front of the battel was against him before and behinde, he chose of all the choyse of Israel, and put them in aray against the Aramites.
10 Mais le reste du peuple, il le confia à Abisaï son frère, qui le rangea en bataille contre les enfants d’Ammon.
And the rest of the people hee deliuered into the hande of Abishai his brother, that hee might put them in aray against the children of Ammon.
11 Et Joab dit: Si les Syriens prévalent contre moi, tu me seras en aide; mais si les enfants d’Ammon prévalent contre toi, je te secourrai.
And he sayde, If the Aramites be stronger then I, thou shalt helpe me, and if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, I will come and succour thee.
12 Sois homme courageux, et combattons pour notre peuple, et la cité de notre Dieu: mais le Seigneur fera ce qui est bon à ses yeux.
Be strong and let vs be valiant for our people, and for the cities of our God, and let the Lord do that which is good in his eyes.
13 C’est pourquoi Joab et le peuple qui était avec lui engagèrent le combat contre les Syriens, qui aussitôt s’enfuirent devant lui.
Then Ioab, and the people that was with him, ioyned in battel with the Aramites, who fled before him.
14 Mais les enfants d’Ammon voyant que les Syriens avaient fui, s’enfuirent aussi eux-mêmes devant Abisaï, et ils entrèrent dans la ville; et Joab s’en retourna après la défaite des enfants d’Ammon, et vint à Jérusalem.
And when the children of Ammon sawe that the Aramites fled, they fled also before Abishai, and entred into the citie. so Ioab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Ierusalem.
15 Les Syriens donc, voyant qu’ils avaient succombé devant Israël, s’assemblèrent tous.
And when the Aramites sawe that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered them together.
16 Et Adarézer envoya pour faire venir les Syriens, qui étaient au-delà du fleuve, et il amena leur armée; or, Sobach, maître de la milice d’Adarézer, était leur prince.
And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Aramites that were beyond the Riuer: and they came to Helam, and Shobach the captaine of the hoste of Hadarezer went before them.
17 Lorsque cela eut été annoncé à David, il réunit tout Israël, passa le Jourdain, et vint à Hélam; et les Syriens rangèrent leur armée en bataille contre David, et combattirent contre lui.
When it was shewed Dauid, then he gathered all Israel together, and passed ouer Iorden and came to Helam: and the Aramites set themselues in aray against Dauid, and fought with him:
18 Et les Syriens s’enfuirent devant Israël, et David tua des Syriens sept cents hommes qui étaient sur les chariots, et quarante mille cavaliers; et il frappa Sobach, prince de la milice, lequel mourut sur-le-champ.
And the Aramites fled before Israel: and Dauid destroyed seuen hundreth charets of the Aramites, and fourtie thousande horsemen, and smote Shobach the captaine of his hoste, who dyed there.
19 Or, tous les rois qui étaient venus au secours d’Adarézer, voyant qu’ils étaient vaincus par Israël, furent épouvantés, et cinquante-huit mille hommes s’enfuirent devant Israël. Et ils firent la paix avec Israël, et ils les servirent; et les Syriens craignirent de donner encore secours aux enfants d’Ammon.
And when all the Kings, that were seruants to Hadarezer, saw that they fell before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and serued them. and the Aramites feared to helpe the children of Ammon any more.
