2 Pierre 3
1 Voici, mes bien-aimés, la seconde lettre que je vous écris; dans l’une et l’autre je réveille vos âmes sincères par mes avertissements;
This seconde Epistle I nowe write vnto you, beloued, wherewith I stirre vp, and warne your pure mindes,
2 Afin que vous vous souveniez des paroles des saints prophètes, que je vous ai rappelées, et des commandements que vos apôtres vous ont faits au nom du Seigneur et Sauveur.
To call to remembrance the wordes, which were tolde before of the holy Prophetes, and also the commandement of vs the Apostles of the Lord and Sauiour.
3 Sachant avant tout qu’il viendra à la fin des jours des imposteurs artificieux, marchant selon leurs propres convoitises,
This first vnderstande, that there shall come in the last dayes, mockers, which wil walke after their lustes,
4 Disant: Où est la promesse ou son avènement? Car depuis que nos pères se sont endormis, tout demeure comme au commencement de la création.
And say, Where is the promise of his comming? for since the fathers died, all things continue alike from the beginning of the creation.
5 Mais ils ignorent, le voulant bien, que par la parole de Dieu, existèrent d’abord les cieux et la terre qui sortit de l’eau, et qui subsiste par l’eau;
For this they willingly know not, that the heauens were of olde, and the earth that was of the water and by the water, by the word of God.
6 Par où le monde d’alors périt inondé par l’eau.
Wherefore the worlde that then was, perished, ouerflowed with the water.
7 Quant aux cieux qui existent maintenant, et à la terre, c’est par la même parole qu’ils sont conservés, étant réservés au feu pour le jour du jugement et de la ruine des hommes impies.
But the heauens and earth, which are nowe, are kept by the same word in store, and reserued vnto fire against the day of condemnation, and of the destruction of vngodly men.
8 Mais il est une chose que vous ne devez pas ignorer, mes bien-aimés, c’est qu’un seul jour devant le Seigneur est comme mille ans, et mille ans comme un seul jour.
Dearely beloued, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord, as a thousande yeeres, and a thousande yeeres as one day.
9 Ainsi le Seigneur ne retarde pas sa promesse, comme quelques-uns se l’imaginent; mais il agit patiemment à cause de vous, ne voulant pas même que quelques-uns périssent, mais que tous recourent à la pénitence.
The Lord of that promise is not slacke (as some men count slackenesse) but is pacient toward vs, and would haue no man to perish, but would all men to come to repentance.
10 Car le jour du Seigneur viendra comme un voleur; et alors, avec un grand fracas, les cieux passeront, les éléments embrasés seront dissous, et la terre, et tout ce qui est en elle sera consumé par le feu.
But the day of the Lord will come as a thiefe in the night, in the which the heauens shall passe away with a noyse, and the elements shall melt with heate, and the earth with the workes that are therein, shalbe burnt vp.
11 Puis donc que toutes ces choses doivent être détruites, quels ne devez-vous pas être en sainteté de conduite et en piété,
Seeing therefore that all these thinges must be dissolued, what maner persons ought ye to be in holy conuersation and godlinesse,
12 Attendant et hâtant le jour du Seigneur; jour où les cieux embrasés seront dissous, et les éléments fondus par l’ardeur du feu?
Looking for, and hasting vnto the comming of that day of God, by the which the heauens being on fire, shall be dissolued, and the elements shall melt with heate?
13 Car nous attendons, selon sa promesse, de nouveaux cieux et une nouvelle terre, dans lesquels la justice habite.
But wee looke for newe heauens, and a newe earth, according to his promise, wherein dwelleth righteousnesse.
14 C’est pourquoi, mes bien-aimés, attendant ces choses, mettez tous vos soins à ce qu’il vous trouve en paix, purs et sans aucune tache.
Wherefore, beloued, seeing that yee looke for such thinges, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot and blamelesse.
15 Et croyez que la longanimité de Notre Seigneur est un moyen de salut, comme notre très cher frère Paul lui-même vous l’a écrit selon la sagesse qui lui a été donnée,
And suppose that the long suffering of our Lord is saluation, euen as our beloued brother Paul according to the wisedome giuen vnto him wrote to you,
16 Comme il le fait aussi en toutes ses lettres, où il parle du même sujet, et dans lesquelles il a quelques endroits difficiles à entendre, que des hommes ignorants et légers détournent à de mauvais sens, aussi bien que les autres Écritures, pour leur propre perte.
As one, that in all his Epistles speaketh of these thinges: among the which some thinges are hard to be vnderstand, which they that are vnlearned and vnstable, wrest, as they do also other Scriptures vnto their owne destruction.
17 Vous donc, mes frères, qui en êtes instruits d’avance, prenez garde à vous, de peur qu’entraînés par l’erreur des insensés, vous ne perdiez de votre propre fermeté.
Ye therefore beloued, seeing ye know these thinges before, beware, lest ye be also plucked away with the errour of the wicked, and fall from your owne stedfastnesse.
18 Croissez au contraire dans la grâce et dans la connaissance de Notre Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus-Christ. À lui la gloire, et maintenant, et jusqu’au jour de l’éternité. Amen. (aiōn g165)
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Sauiour Iesus Christ: to him be glory both now and for euermore. Amen. (aiōn g165)
