1 Or il arriva, lorsque le Seigneur voulut enlever Élie au ciel dans le tourbillon, qu’Élie et Élisée sortaient de Galgala.

2 Et Élie dit à Élisée: Demeure ici, parce que le Seigneur m’a envoyé jusqu’à Béthel. Élisée lui répondit: Le Seigneur vit, et votre âme vit! je ne vous abandonnerai pas. Ils allèrent donc à Béthel,
And Elie seide to Elisee, Sitte thou here, for the Lord sente me til into Bethel. To whom Elisee seide, The Lord lyueth and thi soule lyueth, for Y schal not forsake thee. And whanne thei hadden come doun to Bethel,
3 Et les enfants des prophètes qui étaient à Béthel sortirent vers Élisée, et lui dirent: Ne sais-tu pas qu’aujourd’hui le Seigneur t’enlèvera ton maître? Élisée répondit: Je le sais; gardez le silence.
the sones of prophetis, that weren in Bethel, yeden out to Elisee, and seiden to hym, Whether thou knowist, that the Lord schal take awey thi lord to dai fro thee? Which answeride, And I knowe; be ye stille.
4 Élie dit encore à Élisée: Demeure ici, parce que le Seigneur m’a envoyé à Jéricho. Et celui-ci répondit: Le Seigneur vit et votre âme vit! je ne vous abandonnerai pas. Or lorsqu’ils furent arrivés à Jéricho,

5 Les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho s’approchèrent d’Élisée, et lui dirent: Ne sais-tu pas que le Seigneur aujourd’hui t’enlèvera ton maître? Il leur répondit: Je le sais; gardez le silence.
the sones of prophetis, that weren in Jerico, neiyiden to Elisee, and seiden to hym, Whether thou knowist, that the Lord schal take awei thi lord to dai fro thee? And he seide, Y knowe; be ye stille.
6 Mais Élie dit à Élisée: Demeure ici, parce que le Seigneur m’a envoyé jusqu’au Jourdain. Élisée lui répondit: Le Seigneur vit et votre âme vit! je ne vous abandonnerai point. Ils allèrent donc tous deux ensemble,
Forsothe Elie seide to Elisee, Sitte thou here, for the Lord sente me `til to Jordan. Which seide, The Lord lyueth and thi soule lyueth, for Y schal not forsake thee. Therfor bothe yeden togidere;
7 Et cinquante hommes des fils des prophètes les suivirent, lesquels s’arrêtèrent vis-à-vis d’eux au loin; mais eux étaient tous deux debout sur le Jourdain.
and fifti men of the sones of prophetis sueden, which also stoden fer euen ayens; sothely thei bothe stoden ouer Jordan.
8 Alors Élie prit son manteau et le plia, et frappa les eaux, qui se divisèrent d’un côté et de l’autre, et ils passèrent tous deux à sec.
And Elie took his mentil, and wlappide it, and smoot the watris; whiche weren departid `into euer ethir part, and bothe yeden bi the drie.
9 Et lorsqu’ils eurent passé, Élie dit à Élisée: Demande-moi ce que tu veux que je fasse pour toi, avant que je sois enlevé d’auprès de toi. Et Élisée dit: Je demande avec instance que votre double esprit passe en moi.
And whanne thei hadden passid, Elie seide to Elisee, Axe thou that, that thou wolt that Y do to thee, bifor that Y be takun awey fro thee. And Elisee seide, Y biseche, that thi double spirit be `maad in me.
10 Élie répondit: C’est une chose difficile que tu m’as demandée. Cependant, si tu me vois lorsque je serai enlevé d’auprès de toi, tu auras ce que tu as demandé; mais, si tu ne me vois pas, tu ne l’auras point.
Which Elie answeride, Thou axist an hard thing; netheles if thou schalt se me, whanne Y schal be takun awei fro thee, that that thou axidist schal be; sotheli, if thou schalt not se, it schal not be.
11 Et. lorsqu’ils poursuivaient leur chemin, et que marchant, ils s’entretenaient, voilà un char de feu et des chevaux de feu qui les séparèrent l’un de l’autre; et Élie monta au ciel dans le tourbillon.
And whanne thei yeden, and spaken goynge, lo! a chare of fier and horsys of fier departiden euer either; and Elie stiede bi a whirlewynd in to heuene.
12 Or Élisée le voyait et criait: Mon père, mon père, vous le char d’Israël et son conducteur. Après cela il ne le vit plus; et il prit ses vêtements et les déchira en deux parts.
Forsothe Elise siy, and criede, My fadir! my fadir! the chare of Israel, and the charietere therof. And he siy no more Elie. And he took hise clothis, and to-rente tho in to twei partis.
13 Et il ramassa le manteau d’Élie qui était tombé pour lui; et revenu, il s’arrêta sur la rive du Jourdain,
And he reiside the mentil of Elie, that felde doun to hym; and he turnede ayen, and stood ouer the ryuer of Jordan.
14 Et avec le manteau d’Élie qui était tombé pour lui, il frappa les eaux, et elles ne furent point divisées. Alors il dit: Où est le Dieu d’Élie maintenant? Et il frappa les eaux, et elles se partagèrent d’un côté et de l’autre, et Élisée passa.
And with the mentil of Elie, that felde doun to hym, he smoot the watris, whiche weren not departid. And he seide, Where is God of Elie also now? And he smoot the watris, and tho weren departid hidur and thidur; and Elisee passide.
15 Voyant cela, les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho, vis-à-vis, dirent: L’esprit d’Élie s’est reposé sur Élisée. Et, venant à sa rencontre, ils se prosternèrent, inclinés vers la terre,
Sotheli the sones of prophetis, that weren in Jerico euene ayens, siyen, and seiden, The spirit of Elie restide on Elisee. And thei camen in to the meetyng of hym, and worschipiden hym lowli to erthe.
16 Et ils lui dirent: Voilà qu’avec tes serviteurs sont cinquante hommes forts qui peuvent aller et chercher ton maître: car peut-être que l’Esprit du Seigneur l’aura enlevé et jeté quelque part sur une des montagnes ou dans une des vallées. Élisée répondit: N’envoyez point.
And thei seiden to hym, Lo! with thi seruauntis ben fifti stronge men, that moun go, and seke thi lord, lest perauenture the Spirit of the Lord hath take hym, and hath cast forth hym in oon of the hillis, ethir in oon of the valeys.
17 Mais ils le pressèrent jusqu’à ce qu’il consentit et qu’il dît: Envoyez. Ils envoyèrent donc cinquante hommes, qui, l’ayant cherché pendant trois jours, ne le trouvèrent point.
Which seide, `Nyle ye sende. And thei constreyneden hym, til he assentide to hem, and seide, Sende ye. And thei senten fifti men; and whanne thei hadden souyt bi thre daies, thei founden not.
18 Et ils revinrent vers Élisée, qui habitait à Jéricho, et il leur dit: Ne vous avais-je pas dit: N’envoyez point?
And thei turneden ayen to hym; and he dwelide in Jerico. And he seide to hem, Whether Y seide not to you, Nyle ye sende?
19 Les hommes de la ville dirent aussi à Élisée: Voilà que l’habitation de cette ville est excellente, comme vous-même, seigneur, le voyez; mais les eaux sont très mauvaises, et la terre stérile.
Therfor the men of the citee seiden to Elisee, Lo! the dwellyng of this cite is ful good, as thou thi silf, lord, seest; but the watris ben ful yuele, and the lond is bareyn.
20 Et Élisée répondit: Apportez-moi un vase neuf, et mettez-y du sel. Lorsqu’ils l’eurent apporté,
And he seide, Brynge ye to me a newe vessel, and sende ye salt in to it. And whanne thei hadden brouyt it,
21 Etant sorti vers la fontaine, il jeta le sel dans l’eau, et dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: J’ai rendu ces eaux saines, et il n’y aura plus en elles de mort ni de stérilité.
he yede out to the welle of watris, and sente salt in to it, and seide, The Lord seith these thingis, Y haue helid these watris, and nethir deeth, nether bareynesse, schal be more in tho.
22 Ces eaux donc ont été saines jusqu’à ce jour, selon la parole qu’Élisée dit.
Therfor the watris weren heelid til in to this dai, bi the word of Elisee, which he spak.
23 Or il monta de là à Béthel; et, lorsqu’il montait par la voie, de petits enfants sortirent de la ville et le raillaient, disant: Monte, chauve; monte, chauve.
Forsothe Elisee stiede fro thennus in to Bethel; and whanne he stiede bi the weie, litle children yeden out of the citee, and scorneden hym, and seiden, Stie, thou ballard! stie, thou ballard!
24 Lorsqu’Élisée eut regardé, il les vit, et les maudit au nom du Seigneur; et deux ours sortirent du bois, et déchirèrent quarante-deux de ces enfants.
And whanne he hadde biholde, he siy hem, and curside hem in the name of the Lord. And twey beeris yeden out of the forest, and to-rente fourti children of hem.
25 Élisée s’en alla ensuite sur la montagne du Carmel, et de là il revint à Samarie.
