2 Rois 13
1 En la vingt-troisième année de Joas, fils d’Ochozias, roi de Juda, Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, régna sur Israël dans Samarie, pendant dix-sept ans.
Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, became king of Israel in the twenty-third year of the reign of Joash, son of Ahaziah, king of Judah. He reigned in Samaria for seventeen years.
2 Il fit le mal devant le Seigneur, et il suivit les péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabath, qui fit pécher Israël, et il ne s’en détourna point.
He did what was evil in the Lord's sight, and followed the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat, had made Israel commit; he did not end them.
3 Et la fureur du Seigneur fut irritée contre Israël, et il les livra à la main d’Hazaël, roi de Syrie, et à la main de Bénadad, fils d’Hazaël, durant tous ses jours.
So the Lord was angry with Israel, and he repeatedly allowed them to be defeated by Hazael, king of Aram, and his son Ben-hadad.
4 Or Joachaz implora la face du Seigneur, et le Seigneur l’écouta; car il vit l’angoisse d’Israël, parce que le roi de Syrie les avait brisés.
Jehoahaz asked the Lord for help, and the Lord responded to his request because he saw how badly the king of Aram was treating Israel.
5 Et le Seigneur donna un sauveur à Israël, et il fut délivré de la main du roi de Syrie; et les enfants d’Israël habitèrent dans leurs tabernacles comme hier et avant-hier.
The Lord gave Israel someone who would save them so they no longer were under Aramean rule. Then the Israelites were able to go back to living in safety as before.
6 Cependant ils ne s’écartèrent pas des péchés de la maison de Jéroboam, qui fit pécher Israël; mais ils y marchèrent, puisque même le bois sacré demeura toujours en Samarie.
Even so they did not end the sins that the house of Jeroboam had made Israel commit—they continued to follow them. The Asherah idol still stood in Samaria.
7 Et il ne resta de peuple à Joachaz que cinquante cavaliers, dix chariots et dix mille hommes de pied; car le roi de Syrie les avait tués et réduits comme la poussière dans un battage d’aire.
All that was left of Jehoahaz's army were fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand soldiers, for the king of Aram had destroyed the rest, turning them into dust like that when grain is threshed.
8 Mais le reste des actions de Joachaz, tout ce qu’il a fait, et son courage, n’est-ce pas écrit dans le Livre des actions des jours des rois d’Israël?
The rest of what happened in Jehoahaz's reign, all he did, and his great achievements are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
9 Et Joachaz dormit avec ses pères, et on l’ensevelit à Samarie; et Joas, son fils, régna en sa place.
Jehoahaz died and was buried in Samaria. His son Jehoash succeeded him as king.
10 En la trente-septième année de Joas, roi de Juda, Joas, fils de Joachaz, régna sur Israël dans Samarie, pendant seize ans;
Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, became king of Israel in Samaria in the thirty-seventh year of the reign of King Joash of Judah, and he reigned for sixteen years.
11 Et il fit le mal devant le Seigneur: il ne se détourna pas de tous les péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabath, qui fit pécher Israël; mais il y marcha.
He did what was evil in the Lord's sight and did not end all the sins that Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had made Israel commit—he continued to follow them.
12 Mais le reste des actions de Joas, tout ce qu’il a fait, et son courage, et comment il combattit contre Amasias, roi de Juda, n’est-ce pas écrit dans le Livre des actions des jours des rois d’Israël?
The rest of what happened in Jehoash's reign, all he did, and his great achievements such as his war against Amaziah, king of Judah, are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
13 Et Joas dormit avec ses pères; mais Jéroboam s’assit sur son trône. Or Joas fut enseveli à Samarie avec les rois d’Israël.
Jehoash died, and Jeroboam sat on his throne. Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Cependant Élisée était malade de la maladie même dont il mourut; et Joas, roi d’Israël, descendit vers lui, et il pleurait devant lui, et disait: Mon père, mon père, vous le char d’Israël et son conducteur.
Elisha had become ill with a disease that would eventually kill him. Jehoash, king of Israel, went to visit him, and wept over him, saying, “My father, my father, the chariots and the horsemen of Israel!”
15 Et Élisée lui dit: Apportez-moi un arc et des flèches. Et lorsqu’il lui eut apporté un arc et des flèches,
Elisha told him, “Find a bow and some arrows.” So Jehoash found a bow and some arrows.
16 Élisée dit: Mettez votre main sur cet arc. Et lorsque le roi eut mis sa main, Élisée mit ses mains sur les mains du roi,
Then Elisha said to the king of Israel, “Pick up the bow.” So the king picked up the bow. Elisha placed his hands on the king's hands.
17 Et dit: Ouvrez la fenêtre qui regarde l’orient. Et lorsqu’il l’eut ouverte, Élisée dit: Jetez une flèche. Et il la jeta. Et Élisée reprit: Flèche de salut du Seigneur, flèche de salut contre la Syrie; et vous frapperez la Syrie à Aphec, jusqu’à ce que vous l’exterminiez.
“Open the east window,” he told him. So the king opened it and Elisha said, “Shoot!” So he fired an arrow. Then Elisha explained, “This is the Lord's victory arrow representing the arrow of victory over the Arameans. You will attack the Arameans in Aphek and finish them off.”
18 Il dit encore: Prenez les flèches. Lorsque le roi les eut prises, il lui dit de nouveau: Frappez la terre avec un dard. Et lorsqu’il eut frappé trois fois, et qu’il se fut arrêté,
Then Elisha said, “Pick up the arrows!” So he picked them up. Elisha told the king of Israel, “Hit the ground with them!” He hit the ground three times, and then stopped.
19 L’homme de Dieu s’irrita contre lui et dit: Si vous eussiez frappé la terre cinq fois, ou six fois, ou sept fois, vous auriez frappé la Syrie jusqu’à l’extermination; mais maintenant vous la frapperez par trois fois.
The man of God got angry with him, telling him, “You should have hit the ground five or six times. Then you would have attacked the Arameans until you had completely destroyed them. But now you will only attack the Arameans three times.”
20 Élisée mourut donc, et on l’ensevelit. Or des voleurs de Moab vinrent sur la terre d’Israël en cette même année.
Elisha died and was buried. Raiders from the country of Moab used to invade Israel every spring.
21 Or quelques hommes enterrant un mort virent les voleurs, et jetèrent le cadavre dans le sépulcre d’Élisée. Lorsque le cadavre eut touché les os d’Élisée, l’homme revécut, et se tint sur ses pieds.
On time some Israelites were burying a man when suddenly they saw some raiders coming, so they quickly threw the man into Elisha's tomb. As soon as he touched Elisha's bones, the man came back to life and stood up.
22 Hazaël, roi de Syrie, affligea donc Israël durant tous les jours de Joachaz;
Hazael, king of Aram, caused problems for Israel through all Jehoahaz's reign.
23 Et le. Seigneur eut pitié d’eux, et il revint à eux à cause de son alliance qu’il avait faite avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob: il ne voulut pas les perdre, ni les rejeter entièrement jusqu’au temps présent.
But the Lord graciously helped them and was kind to them. He looked after them because of his agreement with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Even to this day he's been unwilling to destroy them or to throw them out of his presence.
24 Cependant Hazaël, roi de Syrie, mourut, et Bénadad, son fils, régna en sa place.
When Hazael, king of Aram, died, his son Ben-hadad succeeded him as king.
25 Mais Joas, fils de Joachaz, reprit de la main de Bénadad, fils d’Hazaël, les villes qu’Hazaël avait prises de la main de Joachaz, son père, par le droit de la guerre. Joas le battit par trois fois, et il rendit les villes d’Israël.
Then Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, recovered from Ben-hadad son of Hazael, the towns that Hazael had captured from his father Jehoahaz. Jehoash defeated Ben-hadad three times, and so recaptured the Israelite towns.
