2 Chroniques 21
1 Or Josaphat dormit avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli avec eux dans la cité de David, et son fils Joram régna en sa place.
And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son became king in his stead.
2 Joram eut pour frères les fils de Josaphat, Azarias, Jahiel, Zacharie, Azarias, Michaël et Saphatia; tous ceux-là furent fils de Josaphat, roi de Juda.
And he had brothers the sons of Jehoshaphat: 'Azaryah, and Jechiel, and Zecharyahu, and 'Azaryahu, and Michael, and Shephatyahu, all these being sons of Jehoshaphat the king of Israel.
3 Et leur père leur donna beaucoup de présents en argent et en or, ainsi que des pensions, et des villes très fortifiées dans Juda; mais le royaume, il le remit à Joram, parce qu’il était le premier-né.
And their father gave them many gifts [consisting] of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah; but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the first-born.
4 Joram se leva donc sur le royaume de son père, et, lorsqu’il se fut affermi, il tua par le glaive tous ses frères et quelques-uns des princes d’Israël.
Now when Jehoram was risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he slew all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the princes of Israel.
5 Joram avait trente-deux ans lorsqu’il commença à régner, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem.
Thirty and two years was Jehoram old when he became king, and eight years did he reign in Jerusalem.
6 Et il marcha dans les voies des rois d’Israël, comme avait fait la maison d’Achab: car la fille d’Achab était sa femme, et il fit le mal en la présence du Seigneur.
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as had done the house of Achab; for the daughter of Achab had he for wife: and he did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord.
7 Cependant le Seigneur ne voulut point perdre la maison de David, à cause de l’alliance qu’il avait faite avec lui, et parce qu’il lui avait promis qu’il lui donnerait une lampe à lui et à ses fils en tout temps.
Yet would the Lord not destroy the house of David, on account of the covenant which he had made with David, and as he had said to give to him a government and to his sons at all times.
8 En ces jours-là, Edom se révolta pour n’être pas assujetti à Juda, et il s’établit un roi.
In his days Edom revolted from under the power of Judah, and they appointed a king over themselves.
9 Et lorsque Joram eut passé en Idumée avec ses principaux chefs et toute la cavalerie qui était avec lui, il se leva pendant la nuit, et il battit Edom qui l’avait environné, et tous les chefs de sa cavalerie.
Then did Jehoram go over with his princes, and all the chariots were with him; and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites who compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots.
10 Cependant Edom s’est révolté jusqu’à ce jour pour n’être pas sous la domination de Juda. En ce temps-là Lobna aussi se retira pour n’être pas sous sa main; car il avait abandonné le Seigneur Dieu de ses pères;
Yet Edom revolted from under the power of Judah even until this day: then did Libnah revolt at the same time from under his power; because he had forsaken the Lord the God of his fathers.
11 Et de plus il fit même des hauts lieux dans les villes de Juda, et il fit forniquer tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et prévariquer Juda.
He also made high-places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go astray, and misled Judah.
12 Or on lui apporta des lettres du prophète Élie, dans lesquelles il était écrit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu de David, votre père: Parce que tu n’as pas marché dans les voies de Josaphat, ton père, et dans les voies d’Asa, roi de Juda,
And there came unto him a writing from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus hath said the Lord the God of David thy father, Inasmuch as thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, and in the ways of Assa the king of Judah,
13 Mais que tu es entré dans le chemin des rois d’Israël, que tu as fait forniquer Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, ayant imité la fornication de la maison d’Achab, et que de plus tu as tué tes frères mêmes, la maison de ton père, meilleure que toi,
But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go astray, as the house of Achab hath caused [others] to go astray, and hast also slain thy brothers of thy father's house, who were better than thyself:
14 Voilà que le Seigneur te frappera d’une grande plaie, avec ton peuple, tes fils, tes femmes, et tout ce qui t’appartient;
Behold, the Lord will inflict a great plague on thy people, and on thy children, and on thy wives, and on all thy possessions;
15 Mais toi, tu seras malade d’une très cruelle langueur, jusqu’à ce que tes entrailles sortent peu à peu chaque jour.
And thou shalt be [afflicted] with great diseases by a disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels pass out [from thee] by reason of the disease days upon days.
16 Le Seigneur suscita donc contre Joram l’esprit des Philistins et des Arabes, qui confinent avec les Ethiopiens;
And the Lord stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that are alongside of the Cushim:
17 Et ils montèrent dans la terre de Juda, et ils la ravagèrent, et ils pillèrent tout objet qui fut trouvé dans la maison du roi, et de plus, ils emmenèrent ses fils et ses femmes; et il ne lui resta de fils que Joachaz, le plus jeune de tous.
And they went up against Judah, and made an incursion into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and also his sons, and his wives; and there was not left unto him any son, save Jehoachaz, the youngest of his sons.
18 Et par dessus tout cela, le Seigneur le frappa d’une maladie d’intestins incurable.
And after all this did the Lord afflict him in his bowels with a disease which was incurable.
19 Or un jour succédant à un autre jour, et des espaces de temps se déroulant, un cours de deux années fut accompli; alors, ainsi consumé par un si long dépérissement, qu’il répandait même ses entrailles, il fut quitte de la maladie en même temps que de la vie. Il mourut donc de cette infirmité très cruelle, et le peuple ne l’ensevelit point selon la coutume, en le brûlant, comme il avait fait à ses ancêtres.
And it came to pass, from days to days, and when the [fixed] time was expired, after two years, that his bowels passed out [from him] by reason of his disease: so he died of evil diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning for his fathers.
20 Il avait trente-deux ans lorsqu’il commença à régner, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem; et il ne marcha pas droit. Or on l’ensevelit dans la cité de David, mais non pas dans le sépulcre des rois.
Thirty and two years old was he when he became king, and eight years did he reign in Jerusalem, and departed without joy: and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.
