2 Chroniques 16
1 Mais à l’année trente-sixième de son règne, Baasa, roi d’Israël, monta en Juda, et environna d’un mur Rama, afin que nul du royaume d’Asa ne pût sûrement sortir et entrer.
In the six-and-thirtieth year of the reign of Assa, came up Ba'sha the king of Israel against Judah, and built Kamah, in order not to suffer any one to go out or come in to Assa the king of Judah.
2 Asa prit donc de l’argent et de l’or des trésors de la maison du Seigneur, et des trésors du roi, et envoya à Bénadad, roi de Syrie, qui habitait à Damas, disant:
Then did Assa bring out silver and gold out of the treasuries of the house of the Lord and of the king's house, and sent [them] to Ben-hadad the king of Syria, who dwelt at Damascus, saying,
3 Il y a une alliance entre moi et vous; mon père aussi et le vôtre ont entretenu la concorde; c’est pourquoi je vous ai envoyé de l’argent et de l’or, afin que, rompant l’alliance que vous avez faite avec Baasa, roi d’Israël, vous l’obligiez à s’éloigner de moi.
A covenant is between me and thee, as between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee silver and gold; go, break thy covenant with Ba'sha the king of Israel, that he may withdraw from me.
4 Cette nouvelle reçue, Bénadad envoya les princes de ses armées contre les villes d’Israël, lesquels frappèrent Ahion, et Dan, et Abelmaïm, et toutes les villes de Nephthali murées.
And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Assa, and sent the captains of the armies that he had against the cities of Israel, and they smote 'Iyon, and Dan, and Abel-mayim, and all the treasure-cities of Naphtali.
5 Lorsque Baasa l’eut appris, il cessa de bâtir Rama, et interrompit son ouvrage.
And it came to pass, when Ba'sha heard this, that he left off the building of Ramah, and stopped his work.
6 Or le roi Asa prit tout Juda avec lui, et ils enlevèrent les pierres de Rama et les bois qu’avaient préparés Baasa pour bâtir, et il en bâtit Gabaa et Maspha.
And king Assa took then all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and its timber, wherewith Ba'sha had built; and he built therewith Geba' and Mizpah.
7 En ce temps-là, Hanani, le prophète, vint vers Asa, roi de Juda, et lui dit: Parce que vous avez eu confiance dans le roi de Syrie, et non dans le Seigneur votre Dieu, c’est pourquoi l’armée du roi de Syrie s’est échappée de votre main.
And at that time came Chanani the seer to Assa the king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and hast not relied on the Lord thy God: therefore is the army of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hands.
8 Est-ce que les Ethiopiens et les Libyens n’étaient pas beaucoup plus nombreux en quadriges, en cavaliers et en une multitude considérable? Et comme vous aviez cru au Seigneur, il les livra en votre main.
Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a numerous army, with chariots and horsemen in great abundance? yet, because thou didst rely on the Lord, he gave them up into thy hand.
9 Car les yeux du Seigneur contemplent toute la terre, et ils donnent de la force à ceux qui d’un cœur parfait croient en lui. Vous avez donc agi follement, et à cause de cela dès à présent des guerres s’élèveront contre vous.
For as regardeth the Lord, his eyes roam throughout the whole earth, to hold strongly with those whose heart is entire toward him: thou hast done foolishly for this reason; because from this time forth there will be wars with thee.
10 Mais Asa, irrité contre le Voyant, commanda qu’il fût mis dans les chaînes; car il avait été très indigné de ses paroles; et il tua en ce temps-là un grand nombre de personnes d’entre le peuple.
Then became Assa incensed toward the seer, and put him in a prison-house; for he was in a rage with him because of this. And Assa oppressed some of the people at the same time.
11 Or les actions d’Asa, les premières et les dernières, sont écrites dans le Livre des rois de Juda et d’Israël.
And, behold, the acts of Assa, the first and the last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
12 Asa fut aussi malade, la trente-neuvième année de son règne, d’une douleur aux pieds très violente, et dans son infirmité il ne chercha point le Seigneur; mais il se confia davantage en l’art des médecins.
And Assa became sick in the thirty-and-ninth year of his reign in his feet, his disease being exceedingly severe: yet even in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but [applied] to the physicians.
13 Et il dormit avec ses pères; et il mourut l’an quarante et unième de son règne.
And Assa slept with his fathers, and died in the one-and-fortieth year of his reign.
14 Et on l’ensevelit dans son sépulcre qu’il s’était creusé dans la cité de David; et on le mit sur son lit rempli d’aromates et d’essences de femme de mauvaise vie, composées selon l’art des parfumeurs, et on les brûla sur lui en très grand appareil.
And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had dug for himself in the city of David, and they laid him in the couch which was filled with sweet odors and divers kinds of spices mixed by the apothecary's art; and they made for him a burning uncommonly great.
