2 Chroniques 15
1 Or Azarias, fils d’Oded, l’esprit de Dieu étant venu en lui,
The Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded.
2 Sortit à la rencontre d’Asa, et lui dit: Ecoutez-moi, Asa, et vous, Juda et Benjamin. Le Seigneur a été avec vous, parce que vous avez été avec lui. Si vous le cherchez, vous le trouverez, mais si vous l’abandonnez, il vous abandonnera.
He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all of Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you while you are with him. If you look for him, you will find him; but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.
3 Il se passera un grand nombre de jours en Israël, sans vrai Dieu, sans prêtre enseignant et sans loi.
For many years Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach them, and without the law.
4 Et lorsque dans leur angoisse ils reviendront au Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, et qu’ils le chercheront, ils le trouveront.
But when they were in trouble they returned to the Lord, the God of Israel—they looked for him, and they found him.
5 En ce temps-là, il n’y aura point de paix pour l’entrant et le sortant, mais des terreurs de toutes parts sur tous les habitants de la terre;
During those times travel was dangerous, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil. People everywhere had terrible problems.
6 Car une nation combattra contre une nation, et une ville contre une ville, parce que le Seigneur les troublera de toutes sortes d’angoisses.
Nation fought nation, and town fought town, for God threw them into a panic with all kinds of trouble.
7 Vous donc, fortifiez-vous, et que vos mains ne s’affaiblissent point; car il y aura une récompense pour votre œuvre.
But you need to be strong, not weak, for you will be rewarded for the work you do.”
8 Lorsqu’Asa eut entendu cela, c’est-à-dire les paroles et la prophétie d’Azarias, fils d’Oded, le prophète, il se fortifia, et enleva les idoles de toute la terre de Juda et de Benjamin, et des villes qu’il avait prises, du mont Ephraïm, et il dédia l’autel du Seigneur qui était devant le portique du Seigneur.
When Asa heard these words of prophecy from Azariah the prophet, son of Oded, he was encouraged. He removed the vile idols from the whole territory of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. Then he repaired the altar of the Lord that stood in front of the porch of the Lord's Temple.
9 Et il assembla tout Juda et Benjamin, et avec eux les étrangers venus d’Ephraïm, de Manassé, et de Siméon; car plusieurs s’étaient réfugiés d’Israël vers lui, voyant que le Seigneur son Dieu était avec lui.
Then Asa summoned all of Judah and Benjamin, along with those Israelites from the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who were living among them, for many people had deserted Israel and come over to Asa when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.
10 Et lorsqu’ils furent venus à Jérusalem le troisième mois, l’an quinzième du règne d’Asa,
They gathered in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign.
11 Ils immolèrent au Seigneur en ce jour-là, parmi les dépouilles et le butin qu’ils avaient emmené, sept cents bœufs et sept mille béliers.
That day they sacrificed to the Lord seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from the plunder they had brought back.
12 Et le roi entra selon la coutume pour confirmer l’alliance, afin qu’ils cherchassent le Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme.
Then they made an agreement to conscientiously and completely follow the Lord, the God of their forefathers.
13 Or, si quelqu’un, dit-il, ne cherche pas le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, qu’il meure, depuis le plus petit jusqu’au plus grand, depuis l’homme jusqu’à la femme.
They also agreed that anyone who refused to follow the Lord, the God of Israel, would be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.
14 Et ils le jurèrent au Seigneur avec une voix forte au milieu des cris de joie, au bruit de la trompette et au son des clairons,
They declared their oath with a loud shout, accompanied by trumpets and blasts from rams' horns.
15 Tous ceux qui étaient dans la Judée, avec exécration; car c’est en tout leur cœur qu’ils jurèrent, et avec leur entière volonté qu’ils cherchèrent le Seigneur; et ils le trouvèrent, et le Seigneur leur donna le repos à l’entour.
The whole of Judah was happy at the oath they had conscientiously sworn. They looked for him sincerely, and they found him. The Lord gave them peace from all their enemies.
16 Asa déposa Maacha, mère du roi, de l’autorité souveraine, parce qu’elle avait élevé dans un bois sacré un simulacre de Priape, qu’il brisa entièrement; et l’ayant mis en pièces, il le brûla dans le torrent de Cédron.
King Asa also removed Maacah from her position as queen mother for making an offensive Asherah pole. Asa cut down her vile idol, crushed it up, and burned it in the Kidron Valley.
17 Mais les hauts lieux restèrent en Israël; cependant le cœur d’Asa fut parfait durant tous ses jours.
While the high places were not removed from Israel, Asa was completely devoted to the Lord all his life.
18 Et les choses que son père avait vouées ainsi que lui-même, il les porta dans la maison du Seigneur: de l’argent, de l’or et différentes espèces de vases.
He brought into God's Temple the silver and gold articles he and his father had dedicated.
19 Or il n’y eut point de guerre jusqu’à la trente-cinquième année du règne d’Asa.
There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.
