2 Chroniques 13

1 En la dix-huitième année du règne de Jéroboam, Abia régna sur Juda.

Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

2 Il régna trois ans à Jérusalem, et le nom de sa mère était Michaïa, fille d’Uriel de Gabaa; et il y eut guerre entre Abia et Jéroboam.

He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also [was] Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

3 Et comme Abia préparait le combat, et qu’il avait des hommes très vaillants, et quatre cent mille guerriers choisis. Jéroboam rangea vis-à-vis en bataille une armée de huit cent mille hommes, qui eux aussi étaient très forts aux combats.

And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, [even] four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, [being] mighty men of valor.

4 Abia s’arrêta donc sur la montagne de Séméron, qui était en Ephraïm, et il dit: Ecoutez, Jéroboam, et tout Israël.

And Abijah stood upon mount Zemaraim, which [is] in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;

5 Est-ce que vous ignorez que le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël a donné à David un royaume sur Israël pour toujours, à lui et à ses fils, par un pacte de sel?

Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, [even] to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

6 Et Jéroboam, fils de Nabath, serviteur de Salomon, fils de David, s’est levé et s’est révolté contre son seigneur;

Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat the servant of Solomon the son of David, hath risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.

7 Et se sont réunis à lui des hommes de néant, fils de Bélial, et ils ont prévalu contre Roboam, fils de Salomon: or Roboam était sans expérience, d’un cœur craintif, et il ne put leur résister.

And there are gathered to him vain men, the children of Belial, and [they] have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender-hearted, and could not withstand them.

8 Maintenant donc, vous dites que vous pourrez résister au royaume du Seigneur, qu’il possède par les fils de David, et que vous avez une grande multitude de peuple et des veaux d’or que Jéroboam vous a faits pour vos dieux.

And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye [are] a great multitude, and [there are] with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.

9 Et vous avez chassé les prêtres du Seigneur, fils d’Aaron, et les Lévites; et vous vous êtes fait à vous-mêmes des prêtres comme tous les peuples de la terre: quiconque vient, et consacre sa main avec un taureau d’entre les bœufs, et avec sept béliers, est fait prêtre de ceux qui ne sont point dieux.

Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made for you priests after the manner of the nations of [other] lands? so that whoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, [the same] may be a priest of [them that are] no gods.

10 Mais notre Seigneur est Dieu, et nous ne l’abandonnons pas: des prêtres d’entre les fils d’Aaron servent le Seigneur, et les Lévites sont à leur place.

But as for us, the LORD [is] our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, who minister to the LORD, [are] the sons of Aaron, and the Levites [wait] upon [their] business:

11 On offre aussi des holocaustes au Seigneur chaque jour, le soir et le matin, ainsi qu’un parfum composé selon les préceptes de la loi, et l’on expose des pains sur la table très pure; nous avons le chandelier d’or et ses lampes, pour qu’elles soient toujours allumées le soir: car nous, nous gardons fidèlement les préceptes du Seigneur notre Dieu, que vous, vous avez abandonné.

And they burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt-sacrifices and sweet incense: the show-bread also [they set in order] upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with its lamps to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have forsaken him.

12 Ainsi dans notre armée, le chef, c’est Dieu, et ses prêtres qui sonnent des trompettes, et les font retentir contre vous. Enfants d’Israël, ne combattez point contre le Seigneur Dieu de vos pères; car cela ne vous est point avantageux.

And behold, God himself [is] with us for [our] captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye will not prosper.

13 Pendant qu’il disait ces choses. Jéroboam lui tendait par derrière des embûches; et, comme il se tenait en face des ennemis, il entourait de son armée Juda qui l’ignorait.

But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambush [was] behind them.

14 Mais Juda, ayant tourné la tête, vit que la guerre le menaçait par devant et par derrière; et il cria vers le Seigneur, et les prêtres commencèrent à sonner des trompettes.

And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle [was] before and behind: and they cried to the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

15 Alors tous les hommes de Juda poussèrent de grands cris; or voici que, comme ils criaient, Dieu épouvanta Jéroboam et tout Israël, qui se trouvait en face d’Abia et de Juda.

Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

16 Ainsi les enfants d’Israël s’enfuirent devant Juda, et Dieu les livra en sa main.

And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.

17 Abia les frappa, donc ainsi que son peuple, d’une grande plaie, et il tomba, blessés, du côté d’Israël, cinq cent mille des hommes forts.

And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

18 Et les enfants d’Israël furent humiliés en ce temps-là, et les enfants de Juda reprirent entièrement courage, parce qu’ils avaient espéré dans le Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères.

Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.

19 Or Abia poursuivit Jéroboam fuyant, et il prit de ses villes: Béthel et ses filles, Jésana avec ses filles, Ephron aussi et ses filles.

And Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with its towns, and Jeshanah with its towns, and Ephron with its towns.

20 Et Jéroboam ne fut plus assez fort pour résister dans les jours d’Abia; Dieu le frappa, et il mourut.

Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the LORD struck him, and he died.

21 Ainsi Abia, son empire affermi, prit quatorze femmes, et procréa vingt-deux fils et seize filles.

But Abijah became mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.

22 Le reste des actions, des voies et des œuvres d’Abia est écrit très exactement dans le livre d’Addo, le prophète.

And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, [are] written in the story of the prophet Iddo.
