1 Timothée 4
1 Or l’Esprit dit manifestement que, dans les derniers temps, quelques-uns abandonneront la foi, s’attachant à des esprits d’erreur, et à des doctrines de démons,
But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils,
2 Parlant le mensonge avec hypocrisie, et ayant la conscience cautérisée;
through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;
3 Défendant le mariage, et ordonnant de s’abstenir des aliments que Dieu a créés pour être reçus avec actions de grâces par les fidèles et par ceux qui ont connu la vérité;
forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by them that believe and know the truth.
4 Car toute créature de Dieu est bonne, et on ne doit rien rejeter de ce qui se prend avec actions de grâces,
For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 Parce qu’il est sanctifié par la parole de Dieu et par la prière.
for it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.
6 Enseignant ces choses à nos frères, tu seras un bon ministre du Christ Jésus, nourri des paroles de la foi et de la bonne doctrine que tu as reçue.
If thou put the brethren in mind of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which thou hast followed [until now]:
7 Mais les contes insensés des vieilles femmes, rejette-les, et exerce-toi à la piété.
but refuse profane and old wives’ fables. And exercise thyself unto godliness:
8 Car les exercices corporels servent peu; mais la piété est utile à tout, ayant les promesses de la vie présente et de celle à venir.
for bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come.
9 C’est une vérité certaine et digne d’être entièrement reçue.
Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation.
10 Car, si nous prenons tant de peine, si nous sommes maudits, c’est que nous espérons dans le Dieu vivant, qui est le Sauveur de tous les hommes, et principalement des fidèles.
For to this end we labour and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of them that believe.
11 Commande et annonce ces choses.
These things command and teach.
12 Que personne ne méprise ta jeunesse; mais sois l’exemple des fidèles, dans les discours, dans la manière d’agir, dans la charité, dans la foi, dans la chasteté.
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an ensample to them that believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in faith, in purity.
13 Jusqu’à ce que je vienne, applique-toi à la lecture, à l’exhortation et à l’enseignement.
Till I come, give heed to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.
14 Ne néglige pas la grâce qui est en toi, qui t’a été donnée en vertu d’une prophétie avec l’imposition des mains des prêtres.
Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Médite ces choses, sois-y tout entier, afin que ton avancement soit connu de tous.
Be diligent in these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy progress may be manifest unto all.
16 Veille sur toi-même et sur la doctrine; veilles-y sans relâche. Car agissant ainsi, tu te sauveras toi-même et ceux qui t’écoutent.
Take heed to thyself, and to thy teaching. Continue in these things; for in doing this thou shalt save both thyself and them that hear thee.
