1 Thessaloniciens 3

1 C’est pourquoi ne supportant pas un plus long délai, nous préférâmes demeurer seuls à Athènes,

Therefore, when we could not stand it any longer, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone,

2 Et nous envoyâmes Timothée, notre frère, et ministre de Dieu dans l’Evangile du Christ, pour vous affermir et vous encourager dans votre foi;

and sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the Good News of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith;

3 Afin que personne ne fût ébranlé dans ces tribulations; car vous savez vous-mêmes que c’est à cela que nous sommes destinés.

that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task.

4 Et lors même que nous étions près de vous, nous vous prédisions que nous aurions à souffrir des tribulations; ce qui est arrivé, en effet, comme vous le savez.

For truly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.

5 Pour moi donc, ne supportant pas un plus long délai, j’envoyai pour connaître votre foi, de peur que celui qui tente ne vous eût tentés, et que notre travail ne devînt inutile.

For this cause I also, when I could not stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain.

6 Mais maintenant Timothée étant revenu d’auprès de vous vers nous, et nous ayant annoncé votre foi, votre charité, et que vous avez toujours un bon souvenir de nous, désirant nous voir, comme nous le désirons nous-mêmes,

But when Timothy came just now to us from you, and brought us glad news of your faith and love, and that you have good memories of us always, longing to see us, even as we also long to see you;

7 Nous avons été ainsi consolés en vous par votre foi au milieu de toutes nos peines et de toutes nos tribulations.

for this cause, brothers, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith.

8 Car maintenant nous vivons, si vous demeurez fermes dans le Seigneur.

For now we live, since you stand firm in the Lord.

9 Et quelles actions de grâces pourrions-nous rendre à Dieu pour toute la joie dont nous nous réjouissons devant notre Dieu à cause de vous,

For what thanksgiving can we render again to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sakes before our God;

10 Demandant avec instance nuit et jour de voir votre face, et de compléter ce qui manque à votre foi?

night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

11 Que ce même Dieu donc, notre Père, et Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ dirige notre voie vers vous.

Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you;

12 Et que le Seigneur vous multiplie, et fasse abonder la charité que vous avez les uns envers les autres et envers tous, comme la nôtre abonde envers vous;

and the Lord make you to increase and abound in love for one another and for all, even as we also do toward you,

13 Pour fortifier vos cœurs sans reproche en sainteté, devant notre Dieu et Père, à l’avènement de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ avec tous ses saints. Amen.

to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
