1 Samuel 3

1 Or l’enfant Samuel servait le Seigneur devant Héli, et la parole du Seigneur était précieuse en ces jours-là; il n’y avait pas de vision manifeste.

Now, the boy Samuel, was ministering unto Yahweh, before Eli, —and, the word of Yahweh, had become rare in those days, there was no well-known vision.

2 Il arriva donc un certain jour qu’Héli était couché en son lieu (or ses yeux étaient obscurcis, et il ne pouvait pas voir);

But it came to pass, at that time, when Eli was lying down in his place, his eyes, having begun to be dim, he could not see,

3 Avant que la lampe de Dieu fût éteinte, Samuel dormait dans le temple du Seigneur, où était l’arche de Dieu.

though, the lamp of God, was not yet to be put out, and, Samuel, was lying down in the temple of Yahweh, where was the ark of God,

4 Et le Seigneur appela Samuel, qui répondant, dit: Me voici.

that Yahweh called unto Samuel, and he said—Behold me!

5 Alors il courut à Héli et dit: Me voici; car vous m’avez appelé. Héli répondit: Je ne t’ai pas appelé; retourne-t’en, et dors. Et il s’en alla, et il dormit.

So he ran unto Eli and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. And he said—I called not, return—Its down. So he went, and lie down.

6 Mais le Seigneur recommença à appeler de nouveau Samuel. Et Samuel, se levant, s’en alla vers Héli et dit: Me voici, parce que vous m’avez appelé. Et Héli répondit: Je ne t’ai pas appelé, mon fils; retourne-t’en et dors.

And again Yahweh called once there—Samuel! Then rose Samuel, and went unto Eli, and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. And he said—I called not, my son, return—lie down.

7 Or, Samuel ne connaissait pas encore le Seigneur, et la parole du Seigneur ne lui avait pas été révélée.

Now, Samuel, as yet knew not Yahweh, —nor, as yet, had been revealed unto him, the word of Yahweh.

8 Et le Seigneur recommença, et il appela encore Samuel pour la troisième fois. Et Samuel, se levant, s’en alla vers Héli,

And again Yahweh called—Samuel! a third time. Then he arose, and went unto Eli, and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. Then did Eli perceive, that, Yahweh, was calling the boy.

9 Et dit: Me voici, parce que vous m’avez appelé. Héli comprit donc que le Seigneur appelait l’enfant, et il dit à Samuel. Va, et dors: et si dans la suite il t’appelle, tu diras: Parlez, Seigneur, parce que votre serviteur écoute. Samuel s’en alla donc et dormit en son lieu.

So Eli said to Samuel—Go, lie down, and it shall be, if he call unto thee, that thou shalt say—Speak, Yahweh, for thy servant is listening. And Samuel went, and lay down in his place.

10 Et le Seigneur vint, et s’arrêta; puis il appela, comme il avait appelé par deux fois: Samuel, Samuel. Et Samuel répondit: Parlez, Seigneur, parce que votre serviteur écoute.

Then came Yahweh, and stood, and called as time after time—Samuel! Samuel! And Samuel said, Speak, for thy servant is listening.

11 Alors le Seigneur dit à Samuel: Voici que moi je vais faire entendre une parole dans Israël; et quiconque l’entendra, ses deux oreilles tinteront.

And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Lo! I am doing a thing, in Israel, —at which both ears of everyone that heareth it shall tingle.

12 En ce jour-là, je susciterai contre Héli tout ce que j’ai dit sur sa maison: je commencerai et j’achèverai.

In that day, will I confirm against Eli, all that I have spoken against his house, —beginning and finishing.

13 Car je lui ai prédit que je devais juger sa maison à jamais, pour cause d’iniquité, parce qu’il savait que ses fils agissaient indignement, et qu’il ne les a pas corrigés.

Therefore do I tell him, that I am about to judge his house unto times age-abiding, for the iniquity which he knoweth, in that his sons are cursing God, and he hath not rebuked them.

14 C’est pour cela que j’ai juré à la maison d’Héli, que l’iniquité de sa maison ne sera jamais expiée par des victimes et par des offrandes.

And therefore have I sworn, respecting the house of Eli, —that the iniquity of the house of Eli shall receive no propitiatory-covering, by sacrifice or by present, unto times age-abiding.

15 Or, Samuel dormit jusqu’au matin, et il ouvrit les portes de la maison du Seigneur. Et Samuel craignait de déclarer la vision à Héli.

And Samuel lay until the morning, and rose early in the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Yahweh, —but, Samuel, feared to tell the appearing, unto Eli.

16 Héli appela donc Samuel et dit: Samuel, mon fils? Celui-ci répondant, dit: Je suis présent.

So Eli called Samuel, and said—Samuel! my son. And he said—Behold me!

17 Et il l’interrogea: Quel est le discours que t’a tenu le Seigneur? Je te prie de ne point me le céler. Que Dieu te fasse ceci, et qu’il ajoute cela, si tu me caches quelqu’une de toutes les paroles qui t’ont été dites.

And he said—What is the word, which he spake unto thee? I pray thee, do not hide it from me. So, let God do to thee, and, so, let him add, if thou hide from me a word, out of anything which he hath spoken unto thee.

18 Samuel lui déclara donc toutes les paroles, et ne les lui cacha pas. Et Héli répondit: Il est le Seigneur; qu’il fasse ce qui est bon à ses yeux.

So Samuel told him all the words, and hid nothing from him. And he said, Yahweh, he is; what is good in his own eyes, let him do.

19 Or, Samuel grandit, et le Seigneur était avec lui, et nulle de ses paroles ne tomba par terre.

And Samuel grew, —and, Yahweh, proved to he with him, and let none of all his words fall to the ground.

20 Et tout Israël connut depuis Dan jusqu’à Bersabée que Samuel était un fidèle prophète du Seigneur.

So all Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, came to know, —that Samuel had become confirmed as a prophet unto Yahweh.

21 Et le Seigneur continua à apparaître à Silo, parce que le Seigneur s’était révélé à Samuel à Silo, selon la parole du Seigneur. Et le discours de Samuel parvint à tout Israël.

Thus did Yahweh again appear in Shiloh, —for Yahweh had revealed himself unto Samuel in Shiloh, in the word of Yahweh.
