1 Samuel 25
1 Or, Samuel mourut, et tout Israël fut assemblé; et ils le pleurèrent, et ils l’ensevelirent dans sa maison à Ramatha. Et David, se levant, descendit dans le désert de Pharan.
Forsothe Samuel was deed; and al Israel was gaderid to gidere, and thei biweiliden hym greetly, and birieden hym in his hows in Ramatha. And Dauid roos, and yede doun in to deseert of Faran.
2 Or il y avait un homme dans la solitude de Maon, et sa possession était sur le Carmel; et cet homme était très riche, et il avait trois mille brebis et mille chèvres: et il arriva que l’on tondait son troupeau sur le Carmel.
Forsothe a `man was in Maon, and his possessioun was in Carmele, and thilke man was ful greet, and thre thousynde scheep and a thousynde geet `weren to hym; and it bifelde that his flocke was clippid in Carmele.
3 Or, le nom de cet homme était Nabal, et le nom de sa femme Abigaïl; et cette femme était très prudente et belle; mais son mari était dur, très méchant et rusé: or, il était de la race de Caleb.
Forsothe the name of that man was Nabal, and the name of his wijf was Abigail; and thilke womman was moost prudent and fair; forsothe hir hosebond was hard and ful wickid and malicious; sotheli he was of the kyn of Caleph.
4 Lors donc que David eut appris dans le désert que Nabal tondait son troupeau,
Therfor whanne Dauid hadde herde in deseert, that Nabal clippide his floc,
5 Il envoya dix jeunes hommes, et leur dit: Montez sur le Carmel et vous irez vers Nabal, et vous le saluerez en mon nom pacifiquement;
he sente ten yonge men, and seide to hem, Stie ye in to Carmele, and ye schulen come to Nabal, and ye schulen grete hym of my name pesibli;
6 Et vous direz: Que la paix soit avec mes frères et avec toi; et que la paix soit en ta maison, et que la paix soit sur tout ce que tu as.
and ye schulen seie thus, Pees be to my britheren and to thee, and pees be to thin hows, and pees be to alle thingis, `what euer thingis thou hast.
7 J’ai appris que tes pasteurs, qui étaient avec nous au désert, tondaient ton troupeau: jamais nous ne les avons inquiétés, et jamais il ne leur a rien manqué de leur troupeau, pendant tout le temps qu’ils ont été avec nous sur le Carmel.
Y herde that thi scheepherdis, that weren with vs in deseert, clippiden thi flockis; we weren neuere diseseful to hem, nether ony tyme ony thing of the floc failide to hem, in al time in which thei weren with vs in Carmele;
8 Interroge tes serviteurs, et ils te le diront. Maintenant donc, que tes serviteurs trouvent grâce à tes yeux; car nous sommes venus dans un bon jour: tout ce que ta main trouvera, donne-le à tes serviteurs et à ton fils David.
axe thi children, and thei schulen schewe to thee. Now therfor thi children fynde grace in thin iyen; for in a good dai we camen to thee; what euer thing thin hond fyndith, yyue to thi seruauntis, and to thi sone Dauid.
9 Ainsi lorsque les serviteurs de David furent venus, ils dirent à Nabal toutes ces paroles au nom de David, puis ils gardèrent le silence.
And whanne the children of Dauid hadden come, thei spaken to Nabal alle these wordis in the name of Dauid, and helden pees.
10 Mais Nabal, répondant aux serviteurs de David, dit: Qui est David? et qui est le fils d’Isaï? Aujourd’hui les serviteurs qui fuient leurs maîtres s’augmentent.
Forsoth Nabal answeride to the children of Dauid, and seide, Who is Dauith? and who is the sone of Isai? To dai seruauntis encreesiden that fleen her lords.
11 Je prendrai donc mes pains, mon eau, la chair des bêtes que j’ai tuées pour mes tondeurs, et je les donnerai à des hommes qui sont je ne sais d’où?
Therfor schal Y take my looues and my watris, and the fleischis of beestis, whiche Y haue slayn to my schereris, and schal Y yyue to men, whiche Y knowe not of whennus thei ben?
12 C’est pourquoi les serviteurs de David revinrent par leur chemin, et, étant retournés, ils vinrent et lui rapportèrent toutes les paroles que Nabal avait dites.
Therfor the children of Dauid yeden ayen bi her weie; and thei turneden ayen, and camen, and telden to hym alle wordis whiche Nabal hadde seid.
13 Alors David dit à ses serviteurs: Que chacun se ceigne de son glaive. Et ils se ceignirent chacun de leur glaive, David lui-même se ceignit de son épée; et environ quatre cents hommes suivirent David; mais deux cents restèrent près des bagages.
Thanne Dauid seide to hise children, Ech man be gird with his swerd. And alle men weren gird with her swerdis, and Dauid also was gird with his swerd; and as foure hundrid men sueden Dauid, forsothe two hundrid leften at the fardels.
14 Mais un des serviteurs de Nabal l’annonça à Abigaïl, sa femme, disant: Voilà que David a envoyé des messagers du désert, pour bénir notre maître, et il les a repoussés.
Forsothe oon of hise children telde to Abigail, wijf of Nabal, and seide, Lo! Dauid sente messangeris fro deseert, that thei schulden blesse oure lord, and he turnede hem awey;
15 Ces hommes ont été assez bons pour nous, et ne nous ont point inquiétés, et rien n’a jamais péri de nos troupeaux, pendant tout le temps que nous nous sommes trouvés avec eux dans le désert.
these men weren good ynow, and not diseseful to vs, and no thing perischide `in ony tyme in al the tyme in which we lyueden with hem in deseert;
16 ils étaient comme une muraille pour nous, tant la nuit que le jour, durant tous les jours que nous avons fait paître au milieu d’eux les troupeaux.
thei weren to vs for a wal, bothe in niyt and in dai, in alle daies in whiche we lesewiden flockis at hem.
17 C’est pourquoi considérez et pensez à ce que vous ferez; parce que la malice est à son comble contre votre mari et contre votre maison, et que lui-même est un fils de Bélial, en sorte que personne ne peut lui parler.
Wherfor biholde thou, and thenke, what thou schalt do; for malice is fillid ayens thin hosebonde, and ayens `thin hows; and he is the sone of Belial, so that no man may speke to him.
18 Abigaïl donc se hâta, et elle prit deux cents pains, deux outres de vin, cinq béliers cuits, cinq mesures de grains rôtis, cent grappes de raisins secs et deux cents panerées de figues sèches: elle les plaça sur les ânes;
Therfor Abigail hastide, and took two hundrid looues, and two vessels of wyn, and fyue whetheris sodun, and seuene buyschelis and an half of flour, and an hundrid bundles of dried grape, and two hundrid gobetis of dried figus; and puttide on assis,
19 Et elle dit à ses serviteurs: Précédez-moi; voici que je vous suivrai par derrière: mais à son mari Nabal, elle n’en dit rien.
and seide to hir children, Go ye bifor me; lo! Y schal sue you `aftir the bak. Forsothe sche schewide not to hir hosebonde Nabal.
20 Lors donc quelle fut montée sur son âne, et qu’elle descendait au pied de la montagne, David et ses serviteurs descendaient à sa rencontre; et elle-même alla au devant d’eux.
Therfor whanne sche hadde stied on the asse, and cam doun `at the roote of the hil, and Dauid and hise men camen doun in to the comyng `of hir; whiche also sche mette.
21 Et David dit: Vraiment, c’est en vain que j’ai conservé tout ce qui était à lui dans le désert, et que rien n’a péri de tout ce qui lui appartenait; et il m’a rendu le mal pour le bien.
And Dauid seide, Verili in veyn Y haue kept alle thingis that weren of this Nabal in the deseert, and no thing perischide of alle thingis that perteyneden to hym, and he hath yolde to me yuel for good.
22 Que Dieu fasse ceci aux ennemis de David, et qu’il ajoute cela, si de tout ce qui lui appartient, je laisse jusqu’au matin un seul urinant contre une muraille.
The Lord do these thingis, and adde these thingis to the enemyes of Dauid, if Y schal leeue of alle thingis that perteynen to him til the morewe a pisser to the wal.
23 Mais lorsqu’Abigaïl eut vu David, elle se hâta, descendit de son âne, tomba sur sa face devant David, et se prosterna sur la terre;
Sotheli whanne Abigail siy Dauid, sche hastide, and yede doun of the asse; and sche fel doun bifor Dauid on hir face, and worschipide on the erthe.
24 Puis elle se jeta à ses pieds, et dit: Sur moi soit, mon seigneur, cette iniquité: que votre servante, je vous conjure, parle à vos oreilles, et écoutez les paroles de votre servante.
And sche felde doun to hise feet, and seide, My lord the kyng, this wickydnesse be in me; Y biseche, speke thin handmayden in thin eeris, and here thou the wordis of thi seruauntesse;
25 Que mon seigneur roi n’arrête pas son cœur sur cet homme inique de Nabal, puisque, selon son nom, il est insensé, et qu’il y a folie en lui; mais moi, votre servante, je n’ai pas vu, mon seigneur, les serviteurs que vous avez envoyés.
Y preie, my lord the kyng, sette not his herte on this wickid man Nabal, for bi his name he is a fool, and foli is with hym; but, my lord, Y thin handmayde siy not thi children, whiche thou sentist.
26 Maintenant donc, mon seigneur, le Seigneur vit, et votre âme vit! le Seigneur qui vous a empêché de venir dans du sang, et qui vous a sauvé votre main; et maintenant qu’ils deviennent comme Nabal, vos ennemis, et ceux qui cherchent la perte de mon seigneur.
Now therfor, my lord, the Lord lyueth, and thi soule lyueth, which Lord forbeed thee, lest thou schuldist come in to blood, and he sauede thi soule to thee; and now thin enemyes, and thei that seken yuel to my lord, be maad as Nabal.
27 C’est pourquoi, recevez cette bénédiction que votre servante vous a apportée, à vous, mon seigneur, et donnez-la aux serviteurs qui vous suivent, vous, mon seigneur.
Wherfor resseyue thou this blessyng, which thin handmaide brouyte to thee, my lord, and yyue thou to the children that suen thee, my lord.
28 Remettez l’iniquité de votre servante; car le Seigneur vous fera très certainement à vous, mon seigneur, une maison fidèle, parce que, mon seigneur, vous combattez les combats du Seigneur: qu’il ne se trouve donc point de malice en vous durant tous les jours de votre vie.
Do thou awey the wickidnesse of thi seruauntesse; for the Lord makynge schal make a feithful hows to thee, my lord, for thou, my lord, fiytist the batels of the Lord; therfor malice be not foundun in thee in alle dais of thi lijf.
29 Car s’il s’élève un jour un homme qui vous persécute, et cherche votre âme, l’âme de mon seigneur sera gardée, comme dans le faisceau des vivants, auprès du Seigneur votre Dieu; mais l’âme de vos ennemis tournoiera, comme du tournoiement rapide de la fronde.
For if a man risith ony tyme, and pursueth thee, and sekith thi lijf, the lijf of my lord schal be kept as in a bundel of lyuynge trees, at thi Lord God; forsothe the soule of thin enemyes schal be hurlid round aboute as in feersnesse, and sercle of a slynge.
30 Lors donc que le Seigneur vous aura fait à vous, mon seigneur, tous les biens qu’il a prédits de vous, et qu’il vous aura établi chef sur Israël,
Therfor whanne the Lord hath do to thee, my lord, alle these goode thingis, whiche he spak of thee, and hath ordeyned thee duyk on Israel,
31 Ce ne sera pas pour vous un sujet de soupir, ni un scrupule de conscience pour mon seigneur, d’avoir versé un sang innocent, et de vous être vengé vous-même: et lorsque le Seigneur aura fait du bien à mon seigneur, vous vous souviendrez de votre servante.
this schal not be in to siyyng and in to doute of herte to thee, my lord, that thou hast sched out giltles blood, ether that thou hast vengid thee. And whanne the Lord hath do wel to thee, my lord, thou schalt haue mynde on thin handmaide, and thou schalt do wel to hir.
32 Et David répondit à Abigaïl: Béni le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, qui vous a envoyée aujourd’hui à ma rencontre! et bénie votre parole!
And Dauid seide to Abigail, Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, that sente thee to dai in to my comyng, and blessid be thi speche;
33 Et bénie vous-même, qui m’avez empêché de venir pour du sang, et de me venger de ma main!
and blessid be thou, that hast forbede me, lest Y yede to blood, and vengide me with myn hond;
34 Autrement, le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël vit! lequel m’a empêché de vous faire du mal: si vous n’étiez venue si vite à ma rencontre, il ne serait pas resté à Nabal, jusqu’à la lumière du matin, un seul urinant contre une muraille.
ellis the Lord God of Israel lyueth, which forbeed me, `lest Y dide yuel to thee, if thou haddist not soone come in to `metyng to me, a pissere to the wal schulde not haue left to Nabal til to the morewe liyt.
35 David donc reçut de sa main tout ce qu’elle lui avait apporté, et il lui dit: Allez en paix dans votre maison; voilà que j’ai entendu votre voix, et honoré votre face.
Therfor Dauid resseyuede of hir hond alle thingis whiche sche hadde brouyt to hym; and he seide to hir, Go thou in pees in to thin hows; lo! Y herde thi vois, and Y onouride thi face.
36 Or, Abigaïl vint vers Nabal; et voilà qu’il y avait un festin dans sa maison, comme le festin du roi, et le cœur de Nabal était joyeux; car Nabal était fort ivre; et elle ne lui dit pas une parole grande ou petite jusqu’au matin.
Forsothe Abigail cam to Nabal; and, lo! a feeste was to him in his hows, as the feeste of a kyng; and the herte of Nabal was iocounde, for he was `drunkun greetli; and sche schewide not to hym a word litil ether greet til the morewe.
37 Mais au point du jour, quand Nabal fut revenu de son ivresse, sa femme lui rapporta ces choses, et son cœur mourut intérieurement, et il devint lui-même comme une pierre.
Forsothe in the morewtid, whanne Nabal hadde defied the wiyn, his wijf schewide to hym alle these wordis; and his herte was almest deed with ynne, and he was maad as a stoon.
38 Et lorsque dix jours furent passés, le Seigneur frappa Nabal, et il mourut.
And whanne ten daies hadden passid, the Lord smoot Nabal, and he was deed.
39 Lorsque David eut appris que Nabal était mort, il dit: Béni le Seigneur qui a jugé la cause de mon opprobre, venant de la main de Nabal, et qui a préservé son serviteur du mal! car le Seigneur a rejeté la malice de Nabal sur sa tête. David envoya donc, et il parla à Abigaïl, afin de la prendre pour femme.
Which thing whanne Dauid hadde herd, Nabal deed, he seide, Blessid be the Lord God, that vengide the cause of my schenschip of the hond of Nabal, and kepte his seruaunt fro yuel, and the Lord yeldide the malice of Nabal in to the heed of hym. Therfor Dauid sente, and spak to Abigail, that he wolde take hir wijf to hym.
40 Et les serviteurs de David vinrent vers Abigaïl sur le Carmel, et ils lui parlèrent, disant: David nous a envoyés vers vous, désirant de vous prendre pour femme.
And the children of Dauid camen to Abigail in to Carmele, and spaken to hir, and seiden, Dauid sente vs to thee, that he take thee in to wijf to hym.
41 Abigaïl se levant se prosterna, inclinée vers la terre, et dit: Voici ta servante; qu’elle soit servante pour laver les pieds des serviteurs de mon seigneur.
And sche roos, and worschipide lowe to erthe, and seide, Lo! thi seruauntesse be in to an handmayde, that sche waische the feet of the seruauntis of my lord.
42 Et Abigaïl se hâta, et elle se leva, monta sur son âne, et cinq jeunes filles, ses suivantes, allèrent avec elle; et elle suivit les messagers de David; et elle devint sa femme.
And Abigail hastide, and roos, and stiede on an asse; and fyue damesels, sueris of hir feet, yeden with hir, and sche suede the messangeris of Dauid, and was maad wijf to hym.
43 Mais David prit aussi Achinoam de Jezraël; et l’une et l’autre fut sa femme.
But also Dauid took Achynoem of Jezrael, and euer eithir was wijf to hym;
44 Or, Saül donna Michol, sa fille, femme de David, à Phalti, fils de Laïs, qui était de Gallim.
forsothe Saul yaf Mycol his douytir, wijf of Dauid, to Phalti, the sone of Lais, that was of Gallym.
