1 Samuel 19
1 Or, Saül parla à Jonathas, son fils, et à tous ses serviteurs, pour qu’ils tuassent David. Mais Jonathas, fils de Saül, aimait beaucoup David.
And Saul speaks to his son Jonathan, and to all his servants, to put David to death,
2 Aussi Jonathan l’annonça-t-il à David, disant: Saül mon père cherche à te tuer; c’est pourquoi veille sur toi, je te prie, dès le matin; tu resteras dans un lieu secret, et tu te cacheras.
and Jonathan son of Saul delighted in David exceedingly, and Jonathan declares [it] to David, saying, “My father Saul is seeking to put you to death, and now, please take heed in the morning, and you have abided in a secret place and been hidden,
3 Pour moi, sortant, je me tiendrai près de mon père dans le champ, partout où tu seras; et moi-même je parlerai de toi à mon père, et tout ce que je verrai, je te l’annoncerai.
and I go out, and have stood by the side of my father in the field where you [are], and I speak of you to my father, and have seen what [is coming], and have declared [it] to you.”
4 Jonathas donc parla bien de David à Saül, son père, et il lui dit: Ne péchez pas, ô roi, contre votre serviteur David, parce qu’il n’a pas péché contre vous, et ses œuvres vous sont très avantageuses.
And Jonathan speaks good of David to his father Saul and says to him, “Do not let the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his works [are] very good for you;
5 Et il a mis son âme en sa main, et a tué le Philistin, et le Seigneur a donné le salut à tout Israël par une grande victoire. Vous l’avez vu, et vous vous êtes réjoui. Pourquoi donc péchez-vous contre un sang innocent, tuant David qui est sans faute?
indeed, he puts his life in his hand, and strikes the Philistine, and YHWH works a great salvation for all Israel; you have seen, and rejoice, and why do you sin against innocent blood, to put David to death for nothing?”
6 Lorsque Saul eut entendu cela, apaisé par la voix de Jonathas, il jura: Le Seigneur vit! il ne sera pas tué.
And Saul listens to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swears, “YHWH lives—he does not die.”
7 C’est pourquoi Jonathas appela David, et il lui fit connaître toutes ces paroles; ensuite Jonathas introduisit David auprès de Saül; et David fut devant lui, comme hier et avant-hier.
And Jonathan calls for David, and Jonathan declares all these words to him, and Jonathan brings in David to Saul, and he is before him as before.
8 Mais la guerre fut déclarée de nouveau; et David, étant sorti, combattit contre les Philistins; et il les frappa d’une grande plaie; et ils s’enfuirent devant lui.
And there adds to be war, and David goes out and fights against the Philistines, and strikes among them [with] a great striking, and they flee from his face.
9 Et le mauvais esprit, envoyé du Seigneur, s’empara de Saül; or, il était assis dans sa maison, et il tenait sa lance; mais David touchait la harpe de sa main.
And a spirit of sadness [from] YHWH is to Saul, and he is sitting in his house, and his javelin [is] in his hand, and David is playing with the hand,
10 Et Saül s’efforça de percer David de sa lance contre la muraille; et David se détourna de devant Saül; quand à la lance, sans faire de blessure, elle donna dans la muraille; et David s’enfuit, et il fut sauvé cette nuit-là.
and Saul seeks to strike with the javelin through David, and through the wall, and he frees himself from the presence of Saul, and he strikes the javelin through the wall; and David has fled and escapes during that night.
11 Saül envoya donc ses gardes en la maison de David pour s’assurer de lui et le tuer dès le matin. Lorsque Michol, sa femme, l’eut annoncé à David, disant: Si tu ne te sauves cette nuit, demain tu mourras,
And Saul sends messengers to the house of David to watch him, and to put him to death in the morning; and his wife Michal declares [it] to David, saying, “If you are not delivering your life tonight—tomorrow you are put to death.”
12 Elle le descendit par la fenêtre; David donc s’en alla et s’enfuit, et il fut sauvé.
And Michal causes David to go down through the window, and he goes on, and flees, and escapes;
13 Cependant Michol prit la statue, et la posa sur le lit, mit la peau velue de chèvre à sa tête, et la couvrit de vêtements.
and Michal takes the teraphim, and lays [it] on the bed, and she has put the mattress of goats’ [hair for] his pillows, and covers [it] with a garment.
14 Or Saül envoya des archers pour enlever David; et on répondit qu’il était malade.
And Saul sends messengers to take David, and she says, “He [is] sick.”
15 Et Saül envoya de nouveau des messagers, pour voir David, disant: Apportez-le-moi dans le lit, afin qu’il soit tué.
And Saul sends the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up in the bed to me in order to put him to death.”
16 Et lorsque les messagers furent venus, le simulacre fut trouvé sur le lit, et la peau de chèvre à sa tête.
And the messengers come in, and behold, the teraphim [are] on the bed, and the mattress of goats’ [hair for] his pillows.
17 Et Saül demanda à Michol: Pourquoi m’as-tu ainsi trompé, et as-tu laissé mon ennemi s’enfuir? Et Michol répondit à Saül: Parce que lui-même m’a dit: Laisse-moi aller, autrement je te tuerai.
And Saul says to Michal, “Why have you thus deceived me—that you send my enemy away, and he escapes?” And Michal says to Saul, “He said to me, Send me away. Why do I put you to death?”
18 Ainsi David fuyant fut sauvé, et il vint vers Samuel à Ramatha, et il lui raconta tout ce que lui avait fait Saül; et ils s’en allèrent, lui et Samuel, et ils demeurèrent à Naïoth.
And David has fled, and escapes, and comes to Samuel at Ramath, and declares to him all that Saul has done to him, and he goes, he and Samuel, and they dwell in Naioth.
19 Or, la nouvelle en fut portée à Saül par des gens qui dirent: David est à Naïoth en Ramatha.
And it is declared to Saul, saying, “Behold, David [is] in Naioth in Ramah.”
20 Saül envoya donc des archers pour enlever David; quand ceux-ci virent la bande des prophètes qui prophétisaient, et Samuel qui les présidait, l’Esprit du Seigneur s’empara aussi d’eux, et ils commencèrent eux aussi à prophétiser.
And Saul sends messengers to take David, and they see the assembly of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing, set over them, and the Spirit of God is on Saul’s messengers, and they prophesy—they also.
21 Ce qui ayant été annoncé à Saül, il envoya encore d’autres messagers; or, ceux-ci aussi prophétisèrent. Et de nouveau Saül envoya de troisièmes messagers, qui eux aussi prophétisèrent. Et Saül fut irrité par la colère,
And they declare [it] to Saul, and he sends other messengers, and they prophesy—they also; and Saul adds and sends messengers a third time, and they prophesy—they also.
22 Il s’en alla aussi lui-même à Ramatha, vint jusqu’à la grande citerne, qui est à Socho, interrogea et dit: En quel lieu sont Samuel et David? Et il lui fut répondu: Voilà qu’ils sont à Naïoth en Ramatha.
And he goes—he also—to Ramath, and comes to the great well which [is] in Sechu, and asks and says, “Where [are] Samuel and David?” And [one] says, “Behold, in Naioth in Ramah.”
23 Et il s’en alla à Naïoth en Ramatha, et l’esprit du Seigneur s’empara aussi de lui, et il allait marchant, et il prophétisait, jusqu’à ce qu’il vint à Naïoth de Ramatha.
And he goes there—to Naioth in Ramah, and the Spirit of God is on him also; and he goes, going on, and he prophesies until his coming to Naioth in Ramah,
24 Et il se dépouilla aussi lui-même de ses vêtements, et il prophétisa avec tous les autres devant Samuel; et il se coucha nu durant tout ce jour-là et la nuit; d’où est venu le proverbe: Est-ce que Saül est parmi les prophètes?
and he strips off—he also—his garments, and prophesies—he also—before Samuel, and falls down naked all that day and all the night; therefore they say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
