1 Samuel 10
1 Or, Samuel prit le petit vase d’huile et le répandit sur la tête de Saül, puis il le baisa et dit: Voilà que le Seigneur t’a oint comme prince sur son héritage et tu délivreras son peuple des mains de ses ennemis, qui sont autour de lui. Et ceci sera pour toi le signe que Dieu t’a oint comme prince:
Then Samuel took a little vial of oil, and poured it on his head. And he kissed him, and said: “Behold, the Lord has anointed you as first ruler over his inheritance. And you shall free his people from the hands of their enemies, who are all around them. And this shall be a sign for you that God has anointed you as ruler:
2 Lorsque tu t’en seras allé aujourd’hui d’auprès de moi, tu trouveras deux hommes près du sépulcre de Rachel, dans les confins de Benjamin, au midi, et ils te diront: Elles ont été trouvées les ânesses que tu étais allé rechercher, mais, les ânesses, laissées de côté, ton père est inquiet sur vous, et il dit: Que ferai-je au sujet de mon fils?
When you will have departed from me this day, you will find two men beside the sepulcher of Rachel, in the parts of Benjamin to the south. And they will say to you: ‘The donkeys have been found, which you had been seeking as you traveled. And your father, forgetting about the donkeys, has been anxious for you, and he says, “What shall I do about my son?”’
3 Et lorsque tu t’en seras allé de là, que tu auras passé outre, et que tu seras venu au chêne de Thabor, là te rencontreront trois hommes, montant vers Dieu à Béthel: l’un portant trois chevreaux, l’autre trois miches de pain, et l’autre portant une cruche de vin.
And when you will have departed from there, and will have traveled farther, and will have arrived at the oak of Tabor, in that place three men, who are going up to God at Bethel, will find you. One will be bringing three young goats, and another three loaves of bread, and another will be carrying a bottle of wine.
4 Et lorsqu’ils t’auront salué, ils te donneront deux pains, et tu les recevras de leur main.
And when they will have greeted you, they will give you two loaves. And you shall accept these from their hand.
5 Après cela tu viendras sur la colline de Dieu, où est une garnison de Philistins; et lorsque tu seras entré là dans la ville, tu auras à ta rencontre une troupe de prophètes, descendant du haut lieu, et précédés de psaltérions, de tambours, de flûtes et de harpes, et les prophètes eux-mêmes prophétisant.
After these things, you shall arrive at the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is. And when you will have entered the city there, you will meet a company of prophets, descending from the high place, with a psaltery, and a timbrel, and a pipe, and a harp before them, and they will be prophesying.
6 Et l’esprit du Seigneur se saisira de toi, et tu prophétiseras avec eux, et tu seras changé en un autre homme.
And the Spirit of the Lord will spring up within you. And you shall prophesy with them, and you shall be changed into another man.
7 Quand donc tous ces signes te seront arrivés, fais tout ce que ta main rencontrera, parce que le Seigneur est avec toi.
Therefore, when these signs will have happened to you, do whatever your hand will find, for the Lord is with you.
8 Et tu descendras avant moi à Galgala (car moi-même je descendrai vers toi), afin que tu offres une oblation, et que tu immoles des victimes pacifiques. Tu attendras pendant sept jours, jusqu’à ce que j’arrive près de toi, et je te montrerai ce que tu dois faire.
And you shall descend before me into Gilgal, (for I will descend to you), so that you may offer an oblation, and may immolate victims of peace. For seven days, you shall wait, until I come to you, and reveal to you what you should do.”
9 C’est pourquoi, lorsqu’il eut détourné son épaule, pour s’en aller d’auprès de Samuel, Dieu changea son cœur en un autre; et tous ces signes arrivèrent en ce jour-là.
And so, when he had turned his shoulder, so that he might go away from Samuel, God changed him to another heart. And all these signs occurred on that day.
10 Et ils arrivèrent à la susdite colline, et voilà une bande de prophètes à sa rencontre; alors l’esprit du Seigneur se saisit de lui, et il prophétisa au milieu d’eux.
And they arrived at the above-stated hill, and behold, a group of prophets met him. And the Spirit of the Lord leapt up within him, and he prophesied in their midst.
11 Or tous ceux qui l’avaient connu hier et avant-hier, voyant qu’il était avec des prophètes, et qu’il prophétisait, s’entredirent: Qu’est-ce qui est arrivé au fils de Cis? est-ce que Saül est aussi du nombre des prophètes?
Then all those who had known him yesterday and the day before, seeing that he was with the prophets, and that he was prophesying, said to one other: “What is this thing that has happened to the son of Kish? Could Saul also be among the prophets?”
12 Et l’un répondit à l’autre, disant: Et qui est leur père? C’est pourquoi est passé en proverbe: Est-ce que Saül est aussi parmi les prophètes?
And one would respond to the other, saying, “And who is their father?” Because of this, it turned into a proverb, “Could Saul also be among the prophets?”
13 Mais il cessa de prophétiser, et il vint au haut lieu.
Then he ceased to prophesy, and he went to the high place.
14 Et l’oncle de Saül lui dit, à lui et à son serviteur: Où êtes-vous allés? Ils répondirent: Chercher les ânesses; et comme nous ne les avons pas trouvées, nous sommes venus vers Samuel.
And the uncle of Saul said to him, and to his servant, “Where did you go?” And they responded: “To seek the donkeys. But when we did not find them, we went to Samuel.”
15 Son oncle lui dit encore: Fais-moi connaître ce que t’a dit Samuel.
And his uncle said to him, “Tell me what Samuel said to you.”
16 Et Saül répondit à son oncle: Il nous a appris que les ânesses avaient été trouvées. Mais il ne lui découvrit rien du discours sur la royauté, que lui avait tenu Samuel.
And Saul said to his uncle, “He told us that the donkeys would be found.” But the word about the kingdom, which Samuel had spoken to him, he did not reveal to him.
17 Après cela, Samuel convoqua tout le peuple auprès du Seigneur à Maspha,
And Samuel called the people together, to the Lord at Mizpah.
18 Et il dit aux enfants d’Israël: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël: C’est moi qui ai retiré Israël de l’Égypte, et qui vous ai délivrés de la main des Egyptiens, et de la main de tous les rois qui vous affligeaient.
And he said to the sons of Israel: “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: I led Israel away from Egypt, and I rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians, and from the hand of all the kings who were afflicting you.
19 Mais vous aujourd’hui, vous avez rejeté votre Dieu, qui seul vous a sauvés de tous vos maux et de toutes vos tribulations, et vous avez dit: Point du tout; mais établissez un roi sur nous. Maintenant donc, tenez-vous devant le Seigneur, selon vos tribus, et selon vos familles.
But today you have rejected your God, who alone saved you from all your evils and tribulations. And you have said: ‘By no means! Instead, appoint a king over us.’ Now therefore, stand in the sight of the Lord, by your tribes and by your families.”
20 Et Samuel fit approcher toutes les tribus d’Israël, et le sort tomba sur la tribu de Benjamin.
And Samuel brought near all the tribes of Israel, and the lot fell upon the tribe of Benjamin.
21 Il fit donc approcher la tribu de Benjamin et ses familles, et la famille de Métri tomba au sort, et le sort arriva jusqu’à Saül, fils de Cis. Ils le cherchèrent donc, mais il ne se trouva pas.
And he brought near the tribe of Benjamin, with its families, and the lot fell upon the family of Matri. And then it went to Saul, the son of Kish. Therefore, they sought him, but he was not found.
22 Et ils consultèrent après cela le Seigneur, pour savoir s’il devait venir en ce lieu-là. Et le Seigneur répondit: Voilà qu’il est caché dans sa maison.
And after these things, they consulted the Lord as to whether he would soon arrive there. And the Lord responded, “Behold, he is hidden at home.”
23 C’est pourquoi ils coururent, et ils l’enlevèrent de là; et il se tint debout au milieu du peuple et il se trouva plus grand que tout le peuple de l’épaule et de la tête.
And so they ran and brought him there. And he stood in the midst of the people, and he was taller than the entire people, from the shoulders upward.
24 Et Samuel dit à tout le peuple: Certes, vous voyez quel est celui qu’a choisi le Seigneur, et qu’il n’y en a point de semblable dans tout le peuple. Alors tout le peuple s’écria et dit: Vive le roi!
And Samuel said to all the people: “Certainly, you see the one whom the Lord has chosen, that there is not anyone like him among all the people.” And all the people cried out and said, “Long live the king!”
25 Or, Samuel dit au peuple la loi du royaume, et il l’écrivit dans le livre, et il le déposa devant le Seigneur, et Samuel renvoya tout le peuple chacun dans sa maison.
Then Samuel spoke to the people the law of the kingdom, and he wrote it in a book, and he stored it in the sight of the Lord. And Samuel dismissed all the people, each one to his own house.
26 Mais Saül aussi s’en alla dans sa maison à Gabaa; et s’en alla avec lui la partie de l’armée dont Dieu avait touché le cœur.
And then Saul went away to his own house at Gibeah. And a portion of the army, whose hearts had been touched by God, went away with him.
27 Au contraire, les enfants de Bélial dirent: Est-ce qu’il pourra nous sauver, celui-là? Et ils le méprisèrent, et ils ne lui apportèrent point de présents; mais Saül feignait de ne pas entendre.
Yet the sons of Belial said, “How could this one be able to save us?” And they despised him, and they brought him no presents. But he pretended not to hear them.
