1 Pierre 3
1 Pareillement, que les femmes aussi soient soumises à leurs maris; afin que si quelques-uns ne croient pas à la parole, ils soient gagnés sans la parole, par la conduite de leurs femmes,
In like manner, the wives, be ye subject to your own husbands, that even if certain are disobedient to the word, through the conversation of the wives, without the word, they may be won,
2 En considérant votre conduite chaste, jointe à une crainte respectueuse.
having beheld your pure behaviour in fear,
3 Qu’elles n’aient pas au dehors une chevelure habilement arrangée, ou des ornements d’or, ou de riches vêtements pour parure,
whose adorning — let it not be that which is outward, of plaiting of hair, and of putting around of things of gold, or of putting on of garments,
4 Mais au dedans, l’homme caché dans l’incorruptibilité de l’esprit calme et modeste, qui est d’un grand prix aux yeux de Dieu.
but — the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible thing of the meek and quiet spirit, which is, before God, of great price,
5 Car c’est ainsi qu’autrefois les saintes femmes, espérant en Dieu, se paraient, étant soumises à leurs maris.
for thus once also the holy women who did hope on God, were adorning themselves, being subject to their own husbands,
6 Telle était Sara, qui obéissait à Abraham, l’appelant son seigneur, et dont vous êtes les filles, en faisant le bien, et ne craignant aucun trouble.
as Sarah was obedient to Abraham, calling him 'sir,' of whom ye did become daughters, doing good, and not fearing any terror.
7 Vous aussi, maris, vivez sagement avec vos femmes, les honorant comme un vase plus faible, et comme cohéritières de la grâce de vie; afin que vos prières n’aient point d’empêchement.
The husbands, in like manner, dwelling with [them], according to knowledge, as to a weaker vessel — to the wife — imparting honour, as also being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered.
8 Enfin soyez tous unis d’un même cœur, compatissants, vous aimant en frères, miséricordieux, modestes, humbles,
And finally, being all of one mind, having fellow-feeling, loving as brethren, compassionate, courteous,
9 Ne rendant point mal pour mal, ni malédiction pour malédiction; mais, au contraire, bénissant parce que c’est à cela que vous avez été appelés, afin de posséder la bénédiction en héritage.
not giving back evil for evil, or railing for railing, and on the contrary, blessing, having known that to this ye were called, that a blessing ye may inherit;
10 Que celui donc qui veut aimer la vie, et voir des jours bons, défende sa langue du mal, et que ses lèvres ne profèrent point les paroles de tromperie;
for 'he who is willing to love life, and to see good days, let him guard his tongue from evil, and his lips — not to speak guile;
11 Qu’il se détourne du mal et fasse le bien; qu’il cherche la paix et la poursuive;
let him turn aside from evil, and do good, let him seek peace and pursue it;
12 Parce que les yeux du Seigneur sont sur les justes, et ses oreilles à leurs prières; mais la face du Seigneur est sur ceux qui font le mal.
because the eyes of the Lord [are] upon the righteous, and His ears — to their supplication, and the face of the Lord [is] upon those doing evil;'
13 Et qui est-ce qui vous nuira, si vous avez le zèle du bien?
and who [is] he who will be doing you evil, if of Him who is good ye may become imitators?
14 Et si même vous souffrez pour la justice, vous serez bien heureux. N’ayez donc aucune crainte d’eux, et ne vous en troublez point.
but if ye also should suffer because of righteousness, happy [are ye]! and of their fear be not afraid, nor be troubled,
15 Mais glorifiez dans vos cœurs la sainteté du Seigneur Jésus-Christ, toujours prêts à satisfaire quiconque vous demandera la raison de l’espérance qui est en vous;
and the Lord God sanctify in your hearts. And [be] ready always for defence to every one who is asking of you an account concerning the hope that [is] in you, with meekness and fear;
16 Toutefois, avec modestie et respect, conservant une bonne conscience, afin qu’ils soient confondus pour le mal qu’ils disent de vous, ceux qui calomnient votre bonne conduite dans le Christ.
having a good conscience, that in that in which they speak against you as evil-doers, they may be ashamed who are traducing your good behaviour in Christ;
17 Car il vaut mieux souffrir (si Dieu le veut ainsi) en faisant le bien qu’en faisant le mal;
for [it is] better doing good, if the will of God will it, to suffer, than doing evil;
18 Puisque le Christ lui-même est mort une fois pour nos péchés, le juste pour les injustes, afin de nous offrir à Dieu, ayant été mis à mort selon la chair, mais étant ressuscité selon l’esprit,
because also Christ once for sin did suffer — righteous for unrighteous — that he might lead us to God, having been put to death indeed, in the flesh, and having been made alive in the spirit,
19 En lequel il vint aussi prêcher les esprits retenus en prison,
in which also to the spirits in prison having gone he did preach,
20 Qui avaient été incrédules autrefois, lorsqu’aux jours de Noé ils se reposaient sur la patience de Dieu, pendant qu’on bâtissait l’arche dans laquelle peu de personnes, c’est-à-dire huit seulement, furent sauvées par l’eau.
who sometime disbelieved, when once the long-suffering of God did wait, in days of Noah — an ark being preparing — in which few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water;
21 Ce qui vous sauve maintenant vous-mêmes, c’est un baptême semblable: non pas une purification des souillures de la chair, mais l’engagement d’une bonne conscience envers Dieu par la résurrection de Jésus-Christ,
also to which an antitype doth now save us — baptism, (not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the question of a good conscience in regard to God, ) through the rising again of Jesus Christ,
22 Qui est à la droite de Dieu, après avoir absorbé la mort, pour que nous devinssions héritiers de la vie éternelle; et qui est monté au ciel, les anges, les puissances et les vertus lui étant assujettis.
who is at the right hand of God, having gone on to heaven — messengers, and authorities, and powers, having been subjected to him.
